If all of this is true, it's unfortunate but a byproduct of Lamar not having an agent. I get saving the money and having a team you trust, but anyone with half a brain can tell the whole contract situation has been weighing on him. Hasn't been playing with the youthful exuberance that he had early in his career. While I don't blame him for trying to get every penny he can, I think he's been given some bad advice. And it's leading to bad optics, especially with things like this. May be true or may not be true, but it's not a good look and he's the one paying the price for that right now.
i think that's another reason why it's in the ravens best interests to get this done asap - because lamar's clearly better when he's not worrying about his health and his future and his contract - give him that long-term security and you give him that clarity of thought and stop him second-guessing every decision he makes both on and off the field
reasons to do the deal ASAP:
- Lamar's going to play better
- We're able to structure a long-term deal in a way that allows us to put a quality team around him this offseason in a way that we can't if he's on the tag
- You save the tag for another player... like Roquan if he remains unsigned and so creates extra flexibility
- It clarifies your team-building both short and long-term - through the draft and other avenues - and takes you out of this roster building limbo space we're about to potentially enter
i wouldnt say those reasons are at critical mass - but the longer it goes on, the more you also can add: "the longer you wait, the less leverage you have and the more expensive it gets" to the list
