Lamar Jackson

Mahomes 450 million dollar contract s 31 % fully guaranteed signed 2 1/2 years ago. . It will be interesting to see what Burrow's fully guaranteed amount is.
Has the market really changed that much is a little over two years or did Watson's deal just screw everything up?

I hope it didn't

Watson's deal only screws things up for people that don't realize it is just a one off aberration. I mean who in their right mind would think a guy that sat on the couch for 2 years is worth a deal like that. No realistic QB contract negotiations use it as a comp. A dummy contract inked by a bad franchise.

More like the Mahomes deal was extremely team-friendly and is more of an outlier than baseline. Even most of the contracts signed before him had significantly more practical guaranteed $ than what he took. It's just a question of how people look at gtd at signing, vs practical guarantees (i.e. how much money they'll make before its practical that the team can move off them).
If you stack up anybody who's signed an extension the last three years:
2020:
Tannehill: 77% gtd
Mahomes: 31% gtd
2021:
Prescott: 79% gtd
Allen: 58% gtd
2022:
Carr: 54% gtd
Stafford: 81% gtd
Rodgers: 100% gtd
Wilson: 66% gtd
Murray: 82% gtd
Watson: 100% gtd

So even if you don't put Watson as the comp, you've got guys like Murray, Dak, and Stafford who have signed in the last 24 months who are getting 80% guaranteed basically.

Mahomes and Allen appear to be more team-friendly deals, and are also longer in length than any of the others.

Interesting enough is the team friendly deal QB's are doing the best in the playoffs.

Mostly yes. Those guys are also significantly more likely to have longer longevity as QBs than Lamar, so I can't blame Lamar for not wanting to lock into a 10 year contract.

Those guys are also doing better because they haven't been ridiculously expensive yet either. Allen's cap hit was significantly lower than Lamar's was this year. Mahomes was significantly higher, which is why they don't have Tyreek anymore and have a hodge-podge of extremely pedestrian playmakers on offense. They just drafted very well the last couple years and focused on the Oline.
Plus when you have probably the best offensive playcaller in history with an all-time great QB, you tend to win a lot.

Mahommes already earned 1.25mil for winning league mvp. I wonder if had incentives for winning SB and SB mvp also.. shit is crazy lol

Was just thinking…. All ravens have to do is ask sammy watkins about the play calling duties of EB and that should help us our tremendously.. wont be surprised if lamar talked to him about it already… actually, EB hasnt gotten a job yet so im sure the league already knows so nvm
and Demarcus Robinson

Asked this earlier... does it really matter if he calls plays or not? Look at the list of candidates we have. Most don't currently call plays, and I'm not sure some of them have ever called plays.

Like we all want interviews for Brian Johnson... hasn't ever called plays in the NFL before. Only in college.

Like far and away the most qualified person we've interviewed is Todd Monken. He's been an OC in the NFL before (with two different teams) and is currently calling plays for the best College Team on the planet.

Yet he's probably not nearly as popular of a hire and at the top of anybody's short list.

Short of hiring him or EB, the next guy we hire is probably going to be "raw" in terms of play-calling, which means we have no idea what we're going to get. Could be great, could be terrible.

I honestly wish I could just lock this thread until something actually happens. I feel we will know nothing until something happens and which is just so annoying. I know I sound negative but I come here at least 2 times a day just to see the same twitter posts of bullshit in a cycle. ugh just annoyed. but that's the offseason huh...

I don't pay attention to the twitter bullshit on Lamar. Most of it atleast.
