Lamar Jackson

If the Ravens activate the franchise tag as expected, the odds of Lamar being our QB next season is slim. It will mean the Ravens and Lamar
just cant come to an agreement on a contract.
There is little chance at all of the Ravens playing Lamar under the franchise tag.

Sadly, yes.

You have to wonder how differently it would have gone if the Ravens hadn't burned so much of Lamar's good will on the altar of Greg Roman.

It was apparent that Lamar hated the offense for years and the way the Ravens ran him up the middle on every key moment must have made him feel under valued. It was similar to the way the Cowboys ran DeMarco Murray into the ground when they knew they weren't going to re-sign him, yet the Ravens did want to keep Lamar around, so it made much less sense.

I'm not a Jimmy G fan at all. We saw what Shanahan could do with a 7th rounder - Brock Purdy isn't the next unfairly overlooked Tom Brady or anything. He'd probably look pretty bad on 31 other teams. I just think Shanahan's offense is so QB friendly it even got wins out of Nick Mullins.

I think any team signing Jimmy G would find they'd just paid a lot of money for a back up, and not a high end back up like Brissett or Dalton either, but just a guy.

I don’t see how you come to that conclusion. Lamar can certainly play this year on the exclusive tag

Based on what? Something you picked up on Reddit?
1.Lamar is not going to hold out. It would benefit him in no way. The only way truly out of Baltimore(if he even wants that) is forward. He plays another year and then the Ravens can’t afford to tag him twice.
2. The Ravens have the ability to create cap flexibility to fit this years exclusive tag number under the cap.

Greg Roman's offense was key in Lamar's MVP season, not sure why you think he would have hated it then.

He literally said he hated running SEVERAL times. That he would much rather pass SEVERAL times. So what does Greg Roman and Co do?? Run him in every key moment that they can, design power runs for him where he’s getting smashed by the DL. So yeah, he definitely didn’t like it

Also, for those of you clinging to something that happened 3.5 years ago where we STILL got pounded from the playoffs in our very first playoff game of the season… time to move on, bros. Hell we didn’t even win the Super Bowl that year

Definitely can fit it, but I doubt that scenario would allow for much of a chance to improve offensive talent. Not much hope of tournament success.

The reason the passing game was so successful in 2019 was the remarkable success of the running game/scheme designed by GR. After defenses adjusted, not consistently successful. I think if you look back at Roman's offenses and QBs it's been a recurring theme.

Congrats. We had success 3.5 years ago that ended in a first playoff game defeat where our offense looked shitty

Only way I see us being a SB contender with Lamar on tag is we just get lucky and avoid major injuries. I don’t think the offense needs a major boost when you have a healthy Bateman and Andrews. JK will hopefully be completely healed. Add another WR through the draft.

i dont get why though
we've known since september that lamar was gonna get tagged...
it's a negotiating tool - just because he gets tagged, doesn't mean he can't be signed long-term while tagged...

just means that if he's not extended by july, he's playing on the tag until 2024

do we know they're not negotiating right now?
