Lamar Jackson

LMAOOO guy had $200M guaranteed and declined it?? Since 2018, what has he done that truly truly counted? MVP cool, surely won some playoff games that year, maybe got to a Super Bowl. No, lost in our first game in the playoffs badly? Well, he surely went on to win at least some games in the playoffs no matter that loss. Only won one?? Well surely he played in the playoffs in the past two years. No??

Then tell me why the HELL we should sign this guy and get rid of all our solid players for

It's sort of the argument I had with McJacket a few pages back... He gets a big lump, like a signing bonus - that the team heavily places on the back end hoping to resign/restructure later, but if he plays out the contract, he's essentially "guaranteed" that money, but if he doesn't perform, the team has an out in a lower cap hit because the bulk has already been paid.
It seems like Lamar would have to; a) avoid getting injured and, b) remain on the roster to collect the rest of the guaranteed money. Lamar can't prevent the Ravens from cutting, releasing, waiving, or trading him before the rest of his so-called "guarantees" are due either. Watson didn't have to do any of that to get his guaranteed deal and that may be Lamar's issue with the Raven's offer. Hopefully, both sides can resolve this and let get him signed.

I mean I don't think we're really losing that many "solid" players. We cut Campbell, who's literally year-to-year in terms of retirement, and we traded Clark, because he wants a big pay raise and we have two better safeties on the roster.

Paying him will in the long term reduce the # of quality players we can add to the roster, but I don't think it'll require a roster purge. Signing him this year actually gives us more flexibility, not less.

I'm actually quite surprised we haven't cut more players. I thought for sure Edwards and Duvernay would be gone. But EDC opted to go with void years instead.

If true Lamar is mostly at fault for this mess.
I gotta say it would not surprise me if Lamar holds out and doesn’t play.
This is a real disaster for the Ravens.

Because technically gtd at signing is the only thing that's truly "guaranteed". Everything else is usually escalators or "rolling guarantees". Theoretically the Ravens could move off of him and not pay him that if he were to get like get injured early.

In reality, its an extremely standard deal for a player of his caliber. The difference is its not $230M+ in total guarantees, and its not fully guaranteed. Pretty easy indication that Lamar is hung up on one or both of those items.
But the crazy thing is the $175m is guaranteed for injury three days after the league year in 2024. It is impossible for the Ravens to even get out of the deal by that point

You know, something I was just thinking. If no one makes Lamar an offer on this nonexclusive (we originally thought that would be great), it could actually have really negative consequences.

Imagine if Lamar says ok, nobody wants to give up the draft capital, money, and negotiate with me during the FA period when it's not a guarantee they'll get me. Fine, I'll play this year on the tag, hopefully stay healthy and get some playoff success. Then I'll be a UFA (or we put an extremely high second tag on him) and he can go test the waters with no restrictions at all. At which point he'll probably find many suitors.

Of all the members to ask this question on the boards it’s you.

The irony.

Lmao

It’s a legit question . I know you are a Lamar homer but really how many reports do you need to realize somebody’s lying. So you must think the Ravens Front office is lying.
