Regarding Flacco apologists-
What I think many, myself included, are referring to is that there are posters who thought Joe was infallible. I was one of the most ardent and staunch Flacco supporters until 2016, but Joe just wasn't the same after that ACL injury. For most, it was pretty inarguable that Joe's play dropped off heavily from 2016-2018 and that Lamar's insertion into the starting line up was necessary to spark the Ravens to finally make a playoff run.
Some, however, refused to acknowledge the downturn in his play and blamed EVERYTHING around Joe and made every excuse possible for his poor play. Nothing was ever Flacco's fault, no matter what the Ravens did. Then, when Joe moved teams, there were Ravens fans who STILL insisted that Joe was good and the teams around him were the issue, despite Joe clearly having declined to the status of backup.
Now, is this an issue to be a Flacco stan? No, not at all in a vacuum. It's great to support the Ravens and their players.
The issue came for two reasons.
1. Certain fans became VERY hostile if you dared say Flacco was less than perfect. You were not to question his play because Flacco won a Super Bowl and was the Ravens first franchise quarterback.
2. This is much more aggregious to me, but Lamar isn't afforded the same benefit of the doubt as Flacco was by certain fans. We have fans in here calling an MVP award a "participation trophy." That's absurd. Yes, I'd love a deep playoff run like Flacco had. I'd love to recapture that magic. But, acting like an MVP isn't a big deal is silly. Lamar's trajectory is currently surefire Hall of Famer in large part thanks to his two MVP awards. Lamar, without a doubt, is the absolute best offensive talent the Ravens have ever had and certain fans will nitpick the ever living hell out of every single thing Lamar dies. I'm sure there are fans who would pick apart his Miami game from last year because Lamar threw a couple incompletions. The biggest reason (maybe second biggest) seems to be that these fans are salty that Lamar ended Flacco's time in Baltimore. I'm not sure any quarterback who followed Flacco would be enough for some fans, but it's absurd that Lamar isn't when he's one of the best players in the NFL when healthy.
