The 2023 Offseason Thread

It was pretty clear that Philly got out coached in that game. The adjustments by KC at halftime kept the vaunted eagle D off balance and one step behind. But I must say Mahomes is da man.

That big run he had was hilarious. That was a gut check to me

Frankly I'm OK with the "bust" label for a player that's injured, because its really no different if they're injured or healthy. If they're not contributing,t he reason doesn't matter.

That being said, if people are going to use the "bust" label, it should be more resolved/permanent to me. Feels like a lot of people just use it to describe a guy who has a bad year or two, but don't really have any clue whether the guy is or will be good.

Like this fanbase went from "Queen is garbage" to "we can't trade him... he's too good" in like 6 months. Imagine what happens if Bateman is like this for 3 years, we decline his option, and then goes for 1,500 yards in year 4, and people be like "man we have to keep him no matter what".

Far cry from "he's a bust". For me, if you're labeling somebody a "bust", we should be discussing either making sure he's not on the field at all because he sucks, or making plans to have people playing over him because he's unavailable.

Pretty sure we're nowhere close to that spot for Bateman. By far the most likely outcome for me is that he's the #1 WR on this team this year.
Being the number 1 WR by default when that is not a single decent FA WR and the rest of the WR room is trash is not really a point in one's favor. There is always time to turn it around. Geno Smith was a bust for 10 years before suddenly looking like a real QB. Until such a time as they do though that is the label they wear. So far both Bateman and Oweh have been busts. They have not lived up to where they were drafted. Bateman due to injury (and hopefully that injury was hampering him for the games he did play because he was bad before it catching 55% of passes thrown his way).

Can they turn it around? Sure, but right now where they are is not good enough. Can Bateman stay healthy and look like he did year 1? Unknown but hopefully. Can Oweh get that extra step and get a little better technically? Unknown but again hopefully. However you are what you have been and as of yet they have not been good enough.

What would you all think our biggest needs are this off-season,... QB/Lamar, WR's, DB's, O line and D line?

And obviously a new OC.

Basically nailed it.

1a) Lamar
1b) OC

WR, CB, DL, G. I think we should be fine at safety though we could use depth. Center is fine. Pass-rush will ALWAYS be appreciated.

OK, and that's where we disagree. A "bust" isn't changeable. You either are or you aren't. There's no "well maybe they'll turn it around". Its definitive or not at all.
