The 2023 Offseason Thread

Interesting development for Pierce here. Means his roster spot is safe...

Will be interesting to see the specifics. Not sure how they could have created $2.7M in space, because his base salary was only $3.75M, and he was only signed through 2024. Wondering if he took some sort of a paycut.

Pay cut it is

I better see a representative from the Ravens at this workout

With Pierce taking a pay cut, I wouldn’t be surprised if Gus is next on that front. Really good FA class and supposedly loaded draft class, and he should be taking what he can get.

Better tell his ass JK getting 80% of the carries. 5% goes to Lamar. You and rb3 can fight for the remaining 15

Pretty much knew they had to work with Pierce to keep him here, or create another hole. Hopefully they can do the same with Gus. I don’t think he was ever back to 100% last year and believe his best play is still in front of him.

honestly, to me that's a bonus 2m - i assumed we were keeping him and i assumed we were paying full price

we still may in 2024 depending on whether he hits various incentives - hopefully snap/play based incentives so that we pay for how much he's on the field this year

So with the chuck trade and Pierce restructure, how much cap do we need to get down to be in good standing?

Then if we want to sign people we need more..

Sounds like $6.5M to break even. Brian McFarland is saying that the Chuck deal won't matter because it doesn't become official until the opening of the league year on Wednesday, but seems like that wouldn't be an issue so long as don't formally sign anyone before that deal becomes official. So the reality is somewhere between $2M and $6.5M

Would love to have a guy like Thielen to bring the calming veteran presence to the WR room

interesting wrinkle for sure with the chuck timing

And apparently the only penalty for not being under the cap by then is you're frozen from making moves. So theoretically, you could agree in principle with some guys if you wanted, but not formally sign them until the Chuck deal is official. So doesn't seem like a big deal in the grand scheme of things. They're likely to clear well beyond that cap anyways.

Hell yeah... trade one purple jersey for another. This has Ravens signing written all over it.
Only problem is this WR market sucks, guys are likely going to be severely overpriced. Without Lamar under contract to reduce the cap hit, it seems like a long shot for us

Of course in an off-season where the likes of D-Hop and Thielen are available, Lamar wants to play hard to get
