2023 Forum Mock: Discussion Thread

Was very curious to see where Levis went in this. I had too many questions to move up personally, but if he had made it to the back of round 1, I'd have probably taken my chances with the Saints. Feels like the ultimate boom or bust guy.
I agree but with the Jordan Love and Teddy Bridgewater both in front of him and no need to rush him to play, and no compelling needs to fill on Green Bay, the value was absolutely compelling at that point.

Will Levis is very underrated and it didn't help losing his top WR and offensive coordinator going into this season. His 2021 tape was so much better than this season and I think he has a chance to succeed at the next level.

I think it’s a good pick. I’d have probably picked him if my pick was at 16 straight up. I personally wasn’t comfortable with giving up additional ammo to get him. Byproduct of only being able to get 1 star FAs for me.

he basically went from 1.15 to 1.28 and then back to 1.16 while giving up a 3rd for O.O.

Definitely good value here. With the Combine standouts in Richardson and Stroud, and Young always being a Top 5 mention, I figured Levis could be the faller. And he should immediately contend for your starting gig.

The thing is 'generational' RBs never make it to a contender because they usually get picked Top 5-7. Those Teams most of the time don't have a Q or a ultra bad roster, in neither of those situations a team is a super bowl hopeful by adding a RB.
If for whatever reason Robinson would slide to the mid 20s selecting him could turn the right team into an absolute favorite for the SB. Teams like the Chargers, Bills, Chiefs who have a terrific passing attack would become almost undefendable on Offense with a RB like Robinson. If the D spreads out to stop the passing attack Robinson would just destroy them against a light box. The Chargers have had Ekeler while he is a good RB he is not a downhill I'm gonna end you RB that forces teams to stack a box.
Top Tier Teams never get a generational RB in his prime, the 9ers tried this year with the CMC.

To me with how low of value a RB is in the NFL I would absolutely shy away from drafting one in the first round, unless I am one of the above mentioned teams. So for Truth I actually like the pick.

Having said that I'd completely hate it if EDC would draft him (hypothetically speaking as he will be far gone once we pick, I assume)
This is true but at the end of the day, the right RB can absolutely put a contending team over the hump which was my point. A generational RB getting selected by a contending team is another matter but it can happen if a team makes a bad trade or one falls enough. If I have other holes I would shy away from the pick(He wasn't a consideration for the Cardinals even if I traded back) but a team like the Bills making the pick makes a lot of sense as you say.

Right. That's basically how I view it. Value is contextual. In this case, is the running back incoming to complement the QB or to elevate them? If it's the latter, it could mask the potential issues, but it likely won't resolve them. It might extend the playoff contention but not result in more than that in a vacuum. But that's judging the move as the solution. In Josh Allen's case, he's arguably one of the Top 5 players a franchise would build around. He is the show, so the connection between him and Diggs could carry the water with or without Robinson. What Robinson does is add to the foundation instead of serving as the stabilizing agent. When Allen and Diggs aren't connecting, he can contribute enough to squeak out the otherwise potential defeats. And from this class, he's likely the best option to serve as that complement.
Yeah you still need either a top QB or an all time great defense to win a super bowl IMO. A great RB can help with that, even the 2000 Ravens had Jamaal Lewis, 2013 Seahawks had Lynch, 2015 Broncos had that zone running scheme under Kubiak we all saw work wonders for our offense in 2014. I think if a team is already close, it makes sense to go for a top RB but if there are already significant holes then it makes less sense.

Fully agree!

Imagine being Jordan Love, going from backing up Rodgers to him being traded, being all excited to get your opportunity and then the Packers select Levis. Imagine this happening in real life. Poor kid lol
Definitely a roller coaster. I think he still gets his opportunity this year(Bridgewater has struggled to stay healthy and Levis is raw) so he just has to take advantage of that. Make the Packers decide who they want to go with after that.

Losing St. Brown was tough, but moving trading him to move into position to draft Bryce Young was worth it. Then to be able to build out the Lions receiving core with the forever underrated Brandin Cooks and then adding Hollywood and Zay Flowers to the mix should be a very good receiving corp. This doesn't even take into account the 2nd round pick from 2022 in Jameson Williams.

First off, I am usually not a big height, weight, speed guy. Also I hated his block sled drill that went viral, absolutely horrible technique and in a game he can block absolutely no one this way.

Having said that, in game he is a really really good blocker, backside cut offs, across the formation, combo blocks with the Tackle at the Point of Attack. Surprisingly he excels at blocking on the perimeter and in the second level, but not by just blowing away much smaller DBs or LBs but he positions himself really well, he is a very smart blocker who knows and understands angles. He can read defenders if the path of the Defender doesn't allow him to catch the runner Washington immediately flips to the next dangerous defender which allows the runner at least 5+ extra yards. I wouldn't trust him to block a End in Pass Protection by himself or by himself at the point of attack, other than that I am certain he can execute all other blocks on the next level.

But what really made me decide on him is that he is an absolute mismatch on the passing front. I know he did not have the stats to back it up with Bowers being the receiving option for the Bulldogs, but he is a nightmare for opposing DCs and I am rather confident his receiving numbers will increase when he is used correctly. There is absolutely no way he can be covered 1-on-1, standing at 6'7'' with a huge wingspan, even if he is not the best route runner you need to have a safety over the top of him every time he is on the field. There is no DB in the NFL that can match his size and if there is nobody over the top he destroys defenses just by his pure size. Even if his route tree is limited to Seams, Overs, Shallows, Fades and Spot Routes he dictates coverages and alignments for the defense, like a true #1 X-WR would do, which is hugely important for an offense as it frees up everybody else.
Being a former basketball player he can catch, even excels at contested catches when posted up against a LB or DB and high points balls with ease.
He can be an In-Line Blocker, H-Back, split out wide in Goalline Situations and even play the slot a bit.

In todays NFL he is a huge chess piece because with his size and blocking ability Offenses can go from 20 personnel to Empty in an instant and DCs will never know what to expect.

Love Zay Flowers, he was actually #2 on my board. He is a punt returner on offense with the ball in his hands and a really good route runner without the ball.
His only knock is him being 5'9'' but he is an absolue star in the making in my opinion
