he's a free agent
If a player retires in real life you'll get 100% back prior. If it is a player you signed during free agency you only get 50% of what you paid.
In case you were wondering, that section was added basically solely for me because I had like 6 dudes retire unexpectedly in one season back in the day. It was awful.

heads up. Just remember on your SoF sheet. If your roster size (players + draft picks) is under 51, you need to keep 51 in the cell labeled Roster Total (If over 51). This is needed for the formula to work. So if you have 48 players you should have 51 in the Roster Total (if over 51) and 48 in the Roster Total (if under 51)
