Article: Crap Speculation. Kap to the RAVENS

s
As do I especially when there're executives calling Kaep a traitor to this country. With that said, I don't know how Kaep supporters would be able to defend him if indeed there's truth to him rejecting multiple veteran minimums.

So this got me to thinking...assuming the link below is accurate, I think it's a bit simpler to understand why he may not have been signed. I still think there is some nefarious activity in the NFL with all of this said. It makes sense why he isn't going to be back with the Niners and the Browns are in full rebuild mode and have a good amount tied up in Osweiler (lol) and like what they have in Kizer and still have two backups that played last year and were decent. Jags and Titans are stuck (happily in Titans case) with their existing QB's, Houston likes Watson and Hopkins loves Savage, Chicago has a moderate ($16M I believe) amount invested in Glennon and upside in the Biscuit, Indy is a no brainer but why don't they spend any of that money on O-Line, Bucs, GB, Bengals all set at QB, the Jets make sense and they are actually the first team that comes to mind consistently. Pats, Raiders, Cowboys, and Panthers obv have QB's, Cards have a good amount invested in Palmer and view Stanton as the best backup in the league and Gabbert is there too, Steelers, Bills, and Vikes are all heavily invested in QB's, the Broncos have Simien who was decent and Lynch who they are high on and he's a project, Seahawks, Chiefs, Eagles, Lions, Skins, Giants, Chargers, Saints, Falcons, Rams, Ravens all have QB's that are franchise QB's or are too low in cap space for anything other than a veteran minimum to be a consideration. I skipped the Dolphins because they already went the Cutler route.

My reasoning for detailing all of that out is that there doesn't appear to be a slam dunk fit from a need standpoint where they would rather go Kaep over a young talent who can benefit from real-time experience or a team who needs a QB but cannot afford to sign Kaep because he'll be too pricey.

I'd love to hear thoughts on this.

I find the funniest thing about my post above is that the one place he likely cannot return to is San Fran and he'd likely thrive in Shanahan's system more than anyone else which is the irony of all irony. I think Shanahan is one of those rare football minds who can make more with less and could find a way to make Kaep successful by playing to his athletic strengths.

I agree, especially since he was the OC while RG3 was rookie of the year.

They want the number 1 pick.

Josh McCown is the guy if you want to tank for the number one pick.

2014: Signed with Tampa, first overall pick in 2015 that led to Winston.
2015 - 2016: Played in Cleveland, 2016 Browns had 2nd Overall Pick and 1st Overall Pick in 2017
2017: Signed with Jets, 2018 1st Overall Pick?

Lol. Great tag line.
He can always say he was a successful qb. Successful in getting the team to the number 1 pick.

That's pretty amazing.

If there is truth to that and the media is neglecting to confirm it or report it in a larger way then they are, then it is incredibly irresponsible to keep peddling the narrative that he's being blackballed if he's in fact turning offers down. I do think certain teams are likely blackballing or never going to entertain the idea for one reason or another, but I am a believer some teams have made offers.

If it doesn't fit their narrative then they won't report it. I do think money and his play has a lot to do with it. If he turned down veteran min then it shows that he believes he is worth more than what NFL teams think he's worth. Kaepernick has 6 years of service in the NFL meaning the vet min for a player with that much experience is $775,000 in 2017(from Spotrac). Now compare that to the total value of contracts of other lower level/back up QBs:

- Blaine Gabbert: $900,000 (Cardinals)
- Geno Smith: $1.2M (Giants)
- Joe Webb: $1.8M (Panthers)
- Mark Sanchez: $2M (Bears)
- Ryan Fitzpatrick: $3M (Buccaneers)
- Ryan Mallett: $2M (Ravens)
- Josh McCown: $6M (Jets)
- Drew Stanton: $6.5M (Cardinals)

Clearly Colin is better than most if not all QBs on this list(link below to check out the other QB salaries) and teams are clearly willing to pay a ton for a guy with less headaches and someone who isn't a distraction. It also doesn't help the inflating QB market is now expanding to backups, why on earth any team would pay Josh McCown and Drew Stanton $6M and $6.5M respectively compared to bringing in someone cheaper or giving Colin the vet min of $775,000 is beyond me.

In fairness, McCown signed in March and Stanton was under contract already heading into the 2017 season. It isn't like either team signed either QB to those contracts this late in the offseason when the Kaep buzz started really humming.

that's their hope but what those above stats dont show is that often times he would have taken those teams out of contention for the 1st pick if he hadnt got himself injured - he's the ultimate signing if you want to look like you arent tanking but actually are - the problem is that if he stays healthy for 16 games he might win you 3 or 4 which might not be enough for the number 1 pick

3 or 4 may be too much this year, especially.

It would be the jetsiest thing if they even sucked at losing too
I honestly though think the only roster even close to as bad as theirs going into this season is the 49ers - that jets roster looks historically bad on paper

Serves the Jets right for leaving Hofstra. If they didn't leave Hofstra would still have a football team. Yes, I'm alumnus

So tired of these Kap supporters on twitter blindly calling for the Ravens to sign Kap. Thinking he's going to be some savior. Do they not see we need offensive line help first and foremost? They'd rather spend our cap money bringing in another QB to get pummeled on almost every play, than solve the real issue and get a lineman to help give any QB time to throw. No QB is going to have time to throw the ball and make an impact if there are no offensive lineman to give him that time, but they're too blind to see that. "Oh but he can just run!" That won't solve anything when the opposing defense figures that out and stops that too.

Now if Luck starts the season on the PUP list if the rumors from a month ago or whenever come true, I'm surprised that there hasn't been any connection between Kaep and IND. While the Jets make sense, they've basically waved the white flag for this season. The Jags could be an interesting one. Living in FL, I haven't come across many Jags fans who still believe in Bortles. Speaking of which, that dude needs some competition.

But I agree about the "too pricey" part. Ain't no team trying to pay that much money for a backup QB whose social beliefs will not only divide a fanbase, but will cause the team to suffer from boycotts from fans who basically LOATHE him at this point.

Agree on Bortles. It seems like a lot of people think his ship has sailed. I didn't include him because they're tied to him 100% this year and from his being the number 3 overall pick. They have to hope they aren't left looking like dopes for picking him.

Really is a shame, because a couple years ago, it looked like everything was starting to click. Then everything fell apart.

They surely got talent around him. I can see why the Jags are considered to be a poor man's version of the Bengals. Week 3 is going to be VERY interesting if both defense live up to their expectations.
