Next Up: vs. Steelers

Lamar is 2-4 against the steelers and has lost the last 3 to them. You don't let a team like that, a division rival nonetheless thats all of a sudden got hot hang around. Killer instinct from here on out is what we need.

Pretty sure it's 1-3, but point taken. I think the one time Lamar beat the Steelers, Rudolph started for them.

I've been waffling all week on whether I'd like to see the starters out there or not, and my argument for Lamar is biggest reason why I've been waffling all week.

On one hand, he is absolutely dialed in right now. Do you risk taking him out of this insane rhythm he's in for 3 weeks and hope it continues?

On the other hand, if you do put Lamar out there and tell him to play vanilla and safe, is that also taking him out of rhythm? Probably so.

It's less a rust thing for me and more the edge we're playing with overall, and potentially losing that. Still think I lean the cautious approach but wouldn't be mad if they decided to roll with the starters.

also do we want to give our rivals a 3rd win in a row and a chance to make it into the playoffs. If they win in the wild card round it would be a 4th win in a row and then they come to Baltimore for the divisional round. Than again, I'd love to kick them out of the playoffs. We haven't done that since the 14/15 season.

I think part of what makes this team so special is their mindset. They want to prove everyone wrong, kick some asses, and take some names. Not saying the backups can’t do that but there’s a certain edge this team is playing with right now. Definitely understand we have a different group of vet leaders. I just have a hard time seeing this team being one that doesn’t care about a game, regardless of it’s actual significance.

It’s a lose-lose situation unless we win

Whatever they decide to do will be second-guessed if we lose

But we’re only second-guessing it because the last time we had the bye we lost and it’s the only time we’ve had the bye

Agreed. The only wrong answer is the one we know in hindsight.

I think you ultimately are guided by availability anyway and the only real guys you have questions about are the stars without any injury concerns which are Lamar, roquan and madubuike

Lamar I think will be more about which OL are playing.

Madubuike probably plays.

Roquan will probably be up to him I guess.

Probably see some vets like clowney playing fewer snaps than usual.

But most of the guys not playing are gonna be dictated by health anyway - anyone with any health question marks is not gonna suit up

Rossi, I would agree except for one thing. I would say it's a lose-lose even if we win if we lose even one just solid starter.

Yep that's exactly it. Question at that point is whether you get the starters some run early and get them out, or if you use them in emergency only. It's weird to picture someone like Trenton Simpson getting hurt in Q4 and having to run Roquan back out there with a bunch of bottom of the roster dudes but it is what it is.

Just have your bench guys in, keep it close until 4th quarter with 5 minutes to go and then send the starting units out to close the deal, breaking the hearts of the Steelers and their fans forever lmao

we'd need at least 2 injuries to have to get him on the field at least in that hypothetical scenario coz we've got delshawn, malik and simpson on the active roster

the downside of having the backups all play a bunch of snaps is that special teams is probably gonna suffer
