Next Up: vs. Steelers

we'd need at least 2 injuries to have to get him on the field at least in that hypothetical scenario coz we've got delshawn, malik and simpson on the active roster

the downside of having the backups all play a bunch of snaps is that special teams is probably gonna suffer
Yep. Can only do so much. If they’re going with the cautious approach, some of these guys are going to be playing damn near every snap at positions you wouldn’t normally expect that at. Guess it’s better to run the backups into the ground but would be shocked if all of the starters can avoid playing at all. If they choose to go that direction of course.

I will say, I’m really hoping we get to see a lot of Sala either way. Want to see how much Joe D has worked with him the season and if he’s improved.

Joe D is one of the most underrated OL coaches in the NFL. Guy just gets players to play their best and improves them immensely

It’s why I’m most curious to see Sala. We saw in preseason that he had moments but wasn’t near ready. He’s got a full season of coaching from Joe D now and really want to see if the improvement is evident. He has really good potential but needed a complete technical reset.

It’s a lose-lose situation unless we win

Whatever they decide to do will be second-guessed if we lose

But we’re only second-guessing it because the last time we had the bye we lost and it’s the only time we’ve had the bye
Four years ago. Different Lamar, different offense devoid of weapons in a passing game, OC limited in a passing game.

There is no reasonable comparison between the two.

Also, injuries. At least Ingram and Andrews. Andrews couldn't jump as seen on Lamar's first INT, and Ingram was stuck in the mud (which Gus when he got carries was effective. No idea why we didn't give him more opportunities)

if i was to predict what we'll actually see

my guess is we'll see a mostly backup offence with some of the starting receivers rotating in with the backups - my guess is we dont see any of the starters on the OL and we therefore dont see Lamar and we see very little of Gus and Justice

i think we'll definitely see at least some of the starters on the DL and at EDGE
LB will be about whether PQ is healthy and whether Ro wants to go
Secondary will be Marcus, Geno and whoever's healthy

in terms of starters im fairly certain will sit: Ronnie, Linderbaum, Zeitler, Moses, Lamar, Hamilton, Marlon, Stephens

in terms of starters i think could also sit: Gus, Odell, Zay, PQ, Ro

in terms of starters i expect to see play but likely with reduced roles: Clowney, KVN, Justice, Madubuike, Pierce

nothing like live fire to get a good sense of where he's at
but all the more reason for lamar not to be anywhere near the field

different defence too
and a team that's well aware of what happened 4 years ago and will do whatever they can not to repeat that horror

I think part of what makes this team so special is their mindset. They want to prove everyone wrong, kick some asses, and take some names. Not saying the backups can’t do that but there’s a certain edge this team is playing with right now. Definitely understand we have a different group of vet leaders. I just have a hard time seeing this team being one that doesn’t care about a game, regardless of it’s actual significance.
I agree, watching the team you can see they are in a "dog mode" mentality now. They are not just playing football but they are doing something they did not do in 2019 and that is break the other team's soul. I saw it against Miami & Niners, both teams you could see they had their will broken. I am on the fence too about Lamar & others playing. On one hand, yes, I was shocked they [Dolphins] left Chubb late in an already lost game and would lose my mind if we lost any of our guys stupidly to the same mindset. However, I do see value in going out there and ripping out the Steeler's spine in a game meaningless for us but meaningful for them to not just beat them but, as Bane would say, to break them.

Either way, I see the positive in both approaches.

This looks legit to me. This is what I'm also expecting will happen. I could see Marcus Williams in this list, too, if anything because he has played hurt almost the whole year so giving him 3 weeks could really really help him.

I'm generally in agreement. Dress them up but leave them on the sidelines. There are just some positions (notably DL and OLB) where guys simply cannot play 100% of the snaps, so some guys are going to have to play and rotate in. Defensively, they might go more starters except the secondary where it's largely injury concerns.

Offensively, it all depends on OL. I think there's more value in sitting the Ts to try to get healthier, which means I'm sitting most everyone else. But like defense, you probably need to dress one of them and pray they don't need to come in.

the only thing with marcus is he may just have to play - not sure we've got enough DBs to sit him

Chiefs sitting Mahomes, Browns resting starters against Cincinnati. So what do we do?

It would be smart to rest our guys as well. If the weather is as bad as they say it will be, doubly so.
