The Lamar, The Defence and The Special Teams

I knew this is what people would say, but I think it's only half correct. You and @Simba have said the same thing. The offense has been more multiple so pivoting is easier. That's facts.

But it clearly wasn't on the fly. If it was then the adjustments would've come earlier. Look no further than the most stark differences literally being the last drive before half (maybe the worst drive of the season that didn't end in a turnover) and the first after the half.
There were 100% halftime adjustments. Just not the kind that everyone talks of when they say it where we completely switch philosophy in a short timeframe.

Could have been something as simple as…

Monken: Lamar, what are you seeing?
Lamar: They’re blitzing heavy
Monken: Want to get more short game a quick reads?
Lamar: Yes

Not like these guys scrapped a playbook on a whim, but it certainly gave a chance for a quick discussion and an opportunity to pivot into stuff we’d done previously.

Now as for this game. First half had me stressing NEARLY as much as my dad was during the Niners game. Honestly, credit to the Texans coaching staff for getting constant pressure on Lamar.

Then the second half came around. So I saw Lamar's post game comments about how he basically was cussing people out in the locker room. No wonder why Lamar seemed so animated on the first drive of the 2nd half. You can tell how BADLY he wanted that TD. In a way, this game kinda reminds me of the Bucs game from last season. Once we started running the ball more in the 2nd half, we basically controlled the game. Shout out to Dalvin Cook for getting his late in the game.

Defensively, man. Not one sack on Stroud, but that's fine because we were getting tons of pressure on him. Run defense limited them to 38(!) yards. And one of those runs was a 16-yarder. Amazing performance.

We NEEDED this win so I'm beyond happy for the team ESPECIALLY for Lamar. Of course, he heard this noise about his playoff performances so for him to have 4 total TDs and not a single turnover is impressive.

I don't recall who it is, but someone brought up the weather for our game this Sunday. 60% chance of rain or something like that? If that's the case, GUARAN-DAMN-TEED we're playing the Bills because of course. Not a chance in hell we'll play the Bills in normal weather, right?
we also kept their offense out of the end zone for the entire game. Damn special teams let down and their was holding on that punt return that wasn't called. Guess that's payback on Tylan Wallace's pr vs the Rams.

Let’s hope Stout doesn’t have another disastrous punting game like he did this game .
It was really bad with the line drive punt setting up a td return score for the Texans .
It was embarrassing , particularly considering we used a draft pick on him .
He had a bad game, but I know he is capable of doing a lot better. If there is one Achilles heal of this team, it’s our Special Teams.

he's been great most of the season. Probably trying to avoid wind and kicking line drive and that plus missing Tylan Wallace and Delshon Phillips hurt special teams. I think we need to kick towards the sideline if we have wind again next week.

So this is interesting. People like @rmcjacket23 have said for a long time the "half time adjustment" thing is a relatively big myth. And I'll say certainly I have 100% agreed with that. How much could you really diagnose and convey in 15 whole minutes?

With that being said in his presser Harbs said they were expecting pressure because they were successful with it in the first game. However, they changed some things up on us. Then at the half he said "we had to flip into some different protections" because of their unique way of doing things this game.

And like clockwork, OL protection was 1 million percent better. Which I guess goes to show, maybe half time adjustments are more possible than previously expected. In this case it was dramatic. I was wondering all second half how things could be so different, but it seems like there was some very substantial changes that were made meaningfully to do it.

Kudos to Joe D and the crew for getting it done.
I mean there adjustments, but its not like they have an entirely different playbook to go off of. And it wasn't so much my opinion, it was Peyton Manning's opinion. He's said that on the Manningcast like a half dozen times. Could be in the context of players don't make adjustments, but obviously coaches can change things up.

And realistically, the "adjustments" were a) short passing, instead of long delayed drop backs, which helps alleviate the blitz, and b) running the ball over and over and over again.

So do you mean the last drive, i.e. the literal last drive? Because that's a drive that starts with 30 seconds left. So that's not going to be a drive or play calling based on anything other than "get the ball down the field as quickly as possible". Note the drive before that is also with 4 minutes left, so again, it's a bit different in terms of play calling.

We really only had 4 possessions in the first half if you take out the last two possessions, where game clock sort of dictates your play calling to a certain extent. So even if there's no halftime, you still need a sample of seeing what works and what doesn't. We had a lengthy TD drive to start the 2nd quarter, so its not like nothing we were doing was working. The blitz was just getting the best of us.

I believe it was simple too. Not quite that simple, but probably close. I believe you probably add in Todd talking to Joe D about hey we're gonna start running XYZ, we need to flip protections to pick things up like ABC.

And as has been said, because we've been multiple, switching into that was easy.

I guess I'm so impressed because for years, this was a complete impossiblity with Roman. And maybe it's less of a compliment to Todd and more of a true indictment of Greg.

Don't disagree at all. But not one person has said changed the playbook

I was really impressed how they started the 2nd half. That Likely catch to the left with the stiff arm - after catches by both Agolohr and Batemen, was what I really think got their blood going. They were simply unstoppable after that. Great win and lots of fun watching them get back on track.

Yeah, leave out the “on the fly” part and change the topic so you can talk more meaningless shit

Doesn't matter if it was on the fly etc etc, it was an adjustment lol. But hey I learned my lesson. You're right!!! Have a great day!

It's better to just say that he's right and leave it, knowing full well you are actually the one who's correct but moving things along.

i think the biggest change was how they called protections (according to them)
