I'm not sure we have the luxury of going full BPA this year after letting 2 affordable OL starters walk and adjusting Stanley to a one year deal.

I think another position player would have to be a full tier above an OL for them be a better pick, such is the corner they've backed themselves into.
If there's someone with a genuine 1st round grade there, OK, pick him, but if they've just got a better R2 grade, take the Tackle/Guard please.

For better or worse, we’ll be going BPA

And when there are the same grades they’ve always said that need is part of the tie-breaking procedure

But they’ll stick to the board

DJ’s final mock.

I’ll be thrilled with Wiggins.

Wiggins feels a bit like Forbes from last year who was super high on the ravens board

I really love his cover ability - think he’s the best pure cover corner in the class - if the ravens are confident that he’s not a liability with the run game stuff and the physicality then I think he’ll be high on our board

My brain says best OT available

My prediction is that Newton or Dejean falls, we pick him and the whole "every year a great player seems to fall to the Ravens, how do they do it ?!" Rant starts.

Enjoy your day everyone, see you all in a few hours.

I hope this isn't a predictive mock, with everyone's favorite picks for the Ravens gone before 30.

Not that Wiggins is bad, but small outside corners haven't been the Ravens type for a long time now. I think I'd rather take Suamataia or maybe an OLB in this scenario. ( I haven't looked at the pass rushers in this range because I didn't think the Ravens would be looking in that direction at 30. Would Darius Robinson be worth it?)

Who said it was?

How often do the Ravens really go pure BPA? When a real talent we weren't expecting to be available drops, like Hamilton, we do, of course but otherwise, our first pick matches up with our biggest need more drafts than not.

DeCosta talks about how need and positional value factor into the Ravens board. I think going pure BPA is something only teams with great or terrible rosters can go into the draft planning to do.
Right, but BPA isn't really "regardless of position". Never has been.
No team is ever going into any draft with only one positional need. The Ravens have at least 3-4 positional needs that I would argue are largely interchangeable with each other at this point.

I think if there's a run on OTs, we'll either sit pat and take somebody else, or move out of the first round entirely. I think any OT they take in the first round they're going to want some indication they think that player can be a long term LT. Otherwise, I think they're extremely confident they can get a RT on day 2 or even day 3. Especially in this class.

Plus, my opinion... Tackle isn't the critical need people think it is in the short term. Long term its a huge need, but we literally were the #1 seed last year with Stanley, Moses, Mekari and Faalele. Three of those guys are back. I get we'd like to upgrade those spots, but the sky isn't falling if we don't.

Offensive Tackle, Pass Rusher, Cornerback. I think we could take any of those three in the first round and it would make perfect sense. WR a distant fourth, for me.

Same height as Jimmy Smith, taller than Marlon.
You'd basically have him put on 5-10 lbs, and he's basically prototype Corner size.

1" smaller than Jimmy, 1" taller than Marlon with 2" shorter arms than both, but it was more his weight that worries me - he's 173, 16 -20lbs lighter than the other R1 corner prospcts.

He's a really good player but I'm not sure he's a perfect Ravens fit.

I don't think he's a perfect fit either. I don't think there's really any player to be taken at # 30 that would be a perfect fit either. That includes Tackles, Corners, etc.
It's about projecting them forward, not what they are today. We like Corners with speed and length. He has both.

That's true, I could certainly live with a Wiggins pick, and he would make the secondary better, though there are about 20 players I'd like more.

Sure. That's the issue with picking at 30. There's a strong possibility that a lot of the guys on our board are gone. I personally don't see this as a draft class I would look to move up for, unless it's for a high-end LT, in which case I'd expect to need to get into the top 15 to get one. Which makes the price very steep.

I've never had success guessing when EDC will move up and down boards, but this very much checks the boxes of a draft class where I can see EDC moving out of the first round all together. With the sheer volume of positions we'd like to add/upgrade, and only three picks in the top 100, I think it makes perfect sense to accumulate. I can definitely see EDC wanting to get up to 6-7 picks by the end of round 4.

And substantially more fluid and explosive than either. Wiggins movement skills has him in complete control of his coverage situation more often than not.

I just feel that OT and CB is such a position of need, especially after losing Darby. I hope we can stay put and we can fill one of those needs with a really good young player for years to come. Although, I would also be okay if I heard later tonight that we made a trade for a certain 49ers WR…lol! Go Ravens!

Agreed. However, I don't think it's widely acknowledged enough among Ravens fans how heavily need factors into their board.

With the exception of the Hamilton/Linderbaum draft, from Hurst in 18, through Hollywood, Queen, Bateman, Oweh and Zay the Ravens have picked their most pressing need(s) in the 1st every time.

they loved forbes last year
clearly if you're a good enough athlete and playmaker, they'll overlook some weight issues - he's not short or lacking length... just sand in his pants

i would love for us to pick a faller - just get value at 30 and worry about the rest tomorrow and saturday...

dejean or newton would be super exciting
even chop would be super exciting

my excitement about OL would entirely depend on who it is
