Welcome to Baltimore: Nate Wiggins

If we didn’t have Kyle Hamilton, you could have flipped a coin for me with Wiggins and DeJean, but with Hamilton, I feel Wiggins was a slightly better fit for us. I went to bed last night one happy camper!
yes and we needed a boundary corner, with Brandon Stephens in a contract year. Not saying Cooper couldn't play boundary, but his best fit is slot and safety. Yes he can play boundary also, but the best thing about Cooper was his positional flexibility. As it was mentioned earlier, if Wiggins was 10 lbs heavier he could have gone top 10 if not cb1.

I find it odd that last night, it seemed most of ravens nation was clamoring for DeJean, when 8 hours prior to that nobody had Wiggins and DeJean in the same universe
I think DeJean has developed a little bit of a cult hero status as the white CB. Obviously, I still think he's super talented and maybe one of a few that believes he can stick at CB. To me, it was Wiggins all the way there. Wouldn't have been mad at DeJean but Wiggins was a clear fit here.

I would’ve been cool with a white boy summer but Wiggins is a clear tier above DeJean

Now DeJean could fuck around and end up the best safety since Ed Reed, but I’m not exactly looking for that. We’ve gotten massive value out of versatile defenders for years while our specialist department was lacking, year 1 cooper DeJean is either marlon-lite or Hamilton-lite, that’s his skillset.

You should have seen the meltdowns on social media because we did not take an offensive player.

Agreed. DeJean could be great and I'd bank on him being a quality player and had him graded as such. I think his versatility will absolutely be key in his career, but it's hard to let a guy like that be versatile if you don't have a guy like Wiggins on the outside that can lock things down and let a guy like DeJean roam and do his thing. Same with Hamilton - he's obviously quality as a pure S but if you're running out a dude with a Frank Walker-like skillset at outside CB, you probably aren't going to be able to move Hamilton around as much.

The way the board was falling, I don’t know how anyone expected anything other than db. It became clear in the mid teens that db was where we were gonna have the most likely shot at a high value prospect.
Honestly it seemed that way the closer we got to the draft

I think they thought we were going to grab a receiver. Mitchell.

I wonder why he fell so much

Wiggins' combination of processing and the way he eats up space are so exciting
and you can see how he competes all over the tape too
Do you have an NFL comp for him?

I was scared these past 2 weeks of kool-aid, that one felt inevitable up until the board started to take shape, then it felt as if we were gonna do exactly what @Tyler said, we were either gonna have a shot at Wiggins, DeJean, both, or nobody in R1, I could’ve seen suamataia if we didn’t have a trade partner we liked but I’m convinced we had a number of good trade backs lined up

It's not a perfect match but there's some Marcus Peters in there as to how he approaches the game. He doesn't have the same ball skills, but plays a lot of off coverage, trusts his eyes, and knows he has the athleticism to enter the play. Better coverage guy but not quite as much of a playmaker as of now.

absolutely. Prior to the first db being taken it looked as though one of the db's was going to be our pick. As a matter of fact, I had the Ravens taking Wiggins.
