I get that way of thinking. I don't expect people to immediately hop on the wagon just because I'm driving it. This is just objectively the least reasonable time for me to slow the breaks.
Think we've just seen far too many guys that looked good in Q4 of preseason games that fade out of the league entirely just as quickly.

Think Cooper has a much better shot of sticking on the PS for what it's worth. Bullock seems like a viable candidate as well, but a lot more bodies there for PS spots.

I appreciate Ken’s film study work, but man are his roster takes terrible. Opining that Brade and Kane look unlikely to make it because they were out there in Q4 is a wild take because it was only those 2 and Worley dressed at S for the entire game. They may very well not make it but them playing at the end of the game means nothing. Someone has to play and it’s going to be the young guys.

Yeah, one of Kane and Brade's going to make it.

It's a tight race. Kane was the draft pick but Brade was higher rated pre-draft and has shown a little more.

I just think EDC might want to make his disastrous Day 3 look a little better by keeping the guy named after a dishwasher.

At risk of not being a coward, I can see a world where Bullock isn’t even a top choice for the PS depending on who cracks the 53.

We know the main 3 in the competition and I’d guess whoever doesn’t make it there is a top candidate. Guys like Pearl and Dalcourt have also seemingly been above him in the rep order too.

yep dalcourt and manning seem like the locks for the PS especially because dalcourt plays C too

ken was a nice stepladder into film study when i was just starting out

but the fact that basically all of his opinions are based on broadcast footage and that he's mostly analysing results and not technique means that he's not particularly useful to me anymore, especially because he becomes enamoured with a few players every single year and his confirmation bias is always massive when talking about those players

i think he might keep both tbh

idk where this "ego" view of EDC has come from but we've seen him be incredibly cutthroat about players he's just drafted all the time

We might.

The EDC ego thing comes from an off season of O line moves that look a lot like hubris.

My thought that Kane might be favoured isn't really about ego, so much as shoring up his position. (Not that he's in any danger) It's good when people in top jobs can admit their mistakes, and EDC has been great in cutting picks who haven't worked, but it's a fine balance. Admit to too many mistakes and people might begin to lose some confidence in you. With Leary all but gone, and Ali and Samac potentially headed for the P squad, he won't want up to 4 draft picks possibly missing the cut.

His result based analysis just means he's doing more of a PFF type thing than a scouting thing, which I think is valid too. Like with PFF, I find him useful for giving a broad ballpark for player's performances, but I wouldn't over-rely on it.

The thing I really don't get is why he grades so heavily on penalties, when O Line flags are often more about the whim of the crew than anything the player has done, except for the few obvious ones that every crew would give every time. eg. Put John Simpson on the Chiefs and his Filmstudy score would jump a few grades because suddenly the flags will be cut in half.

i just think that's a lot of projection tbh - Harbs ultimately picks the players that stay vs who gets cut anyways in most cases

samac looks like the favourite for the 9th OL job depending on the severity of his injury and kane is the favourite of him and brade probably on merit - and it might be that both stick around too

i understand why he grades penalties so highly/lowly because there's an option value to them
but it's not something that projects when you think about developing players in preseason

Guessing we'll see a handful or two of cuts today ahead of tomorrow's deadline... usually today is a combo of the UDFAs and veterans that they do not plan to retain.

I’d rather keep an additional OL over that 3rd RB as of now, especially someone like Kelly. Just don’t see any being worth a 53 man spot and every single one should be fine on the PS.

You’ve also got 54 here.

Yes, that's pretty much it. Picking the roster is a little easier this year with less competition at the bottom. Now we know how the other half live.

I'd like to see them pick up cuts at G and RB if possible.

Mainejet

Practice Squad
Just curious..... Now that it's cut down time, how many players do you figure other teams will scavenge from your practice squad? I know your front office does an excellent job bringing in talent. It would not at all surprise me to see as many as 9 players claimed by other teams after the Jets make their initial cuts.

The bubble also got real thin... if we take UPennChem's *54 from above, the only other guys I see in real contention are the following...

RB: Ali, Collier (mostly out of necessity than it being earned)
WR: Miller, Kirkwood, Wade, maybe Gage
OL: Aumuvae-Laulu, Manning
ILB: Rigby (ST)
CB: Hollman (ST)
S: Worley (ST)

That's technically 65 guys for 53 spots but I don't think that reflects the fact that some are only candidates due to injury and/or lack of depth. In reality, it's more like 56-57 guys for 53 spots. Not a single guy on the bubble that would hurt for me to cut this year.
