I live in VA and UVA for a few years was my top college before I decided it was too preppy and pretentious for me and I ended up going to VT.

Four years after deciding not to go to UVA, I can take solice in knowing it was a good decision with the recent protests there.

I'm disgusted that such a beautiful city and wonderful area could churn out such ugly hatred.
I agree! They did not want that in their community but the courts did not give them a choice.

Ah... Bannon has been fired. I wonder if we'll see some sort of professionalism and prestige in the White House now that the sloven nationalist instigator is out.

So how much are we winning? Ive been out of the loop. I was told there would be so much winning.

Over a million jobs created. 401k's jumping like crazy. Illegal immigration down by over 70%. MS 13 getting their butt kicked which hopefully helps inner cities in the long run even those sanctuary ones.

Depends on what you consider winning? Its been 6 mths and the cant get it together congress is on vacay.

It is but you have to look at the jobs created and what kinds. We're talking manufacturing jobs. Not govt jobs or low paying jobs but I'm not quite sure if that graph is just private sector or both public and private.

Well I did look it up and I do see your point. It still does matter on what type of jobs but that would take a lot of digging but of course a lot of the upswing was cuz of the crash and the bailouts which was taxpayer money but the upswing did stay on its path

I guess the others were winning pts?

Wow, a million jobs created. We had slightly more in the same timespan under Obama. Gross numbers don't matter. Context does. A million is par for the course.

some police officers have rallied around Colin K in support of his cause and believe he should be employed. not much word of this, I wonder why.

I'm sure many police officers agree. The protests that he's conducting are reasonable.

There are some very bad cops and some very abusive cops out there. I firmly believe that 90% of cops are great people with great intentions, but that other 10% should not be in power.

Maybe you watching the wrong news. I heard all about

No wonder nobody seen this it was at the bottom of the page but I have plenty to say about Charlottsville. First off this was a national march of a whole bunch of different white supremacy outfits and they still totaled only in the hundreds which makes them such a small fringe that they shouldn't even be paid attention too......but no here come the Antifa with some BLM members that have to squelch anything they don't like mainly with violence but the racists knew they would come which was what led too extreme violence between BOTH SIDES LIKE TRUMP SAID!! Unfortunately these racists with their vile rhetoric did obtain the proper permission to have this march and mainly the left needs to understand free speech is a right but you also have the freedom not to listen or attend or to peaceably counter protest which means no violence or obstruction. The left is what keeps racism alive by making these fringe outfits relevant and never calling out their own.

You know what really kills me Bird is that Trump and Bannon are considered white supremacists and Nazis but Trump's grandchildren are being raised as Jewish and Bannon works at Breitbart a very pro Israel publication.

that last sentence is pure semantics given that they are very clearly not jewish themselves and the extent of any "support" of judaism (if any beyond being ambivalent to it) is vague at best - but that's a bizarre tangent...

anyway...
i really dont understand US free speech laws because in the UK we still have free speech yet also have anti-hate speech laws in place (just something interesting... or worrying)

and id like to say that if the white supremacists have the right to protest then Antifa and BLM members (among many other groups) also have the right to counter protest because unopposed these ideas can take hold - it's like saying there's no need to put out a small fire because it's small even if it's inside your house... (and i quite like my house) - id also like to point out that while tensions were high, the antifa threats only came after an interfaith group who were peacefully protesting the rally were surrounded and enclosed (with police having withdrawn) by the white supremacists before the anti fascists and other responding groups stepped in - there was very much one aggressor throughout and it was not the counter-protestors

Both sides were at fault.

Its not good to have hate speech laws cuz when you do the govt decides what is hate speech. You ara also not allowed to obstruct which I said in my prior post. That is not peaceful protest.

it's a prosecutable offence in the UK which means you have a right to fair trial either way and the police have a right to prosecute - it's just fearmongering to think that a government will 1) decide what constitutes hate speech and 2) that the government deciding is a bad thing given that supposedly they are elected by a majority (albeit that is not actually true in the US...)

We need to understand that the right to free speech has it's limitations and if this went to the Supreme Court, I'd imagine it would be easily ruled in favor of any neo-Nazi protests.

These people are asking to protest in favor of white supremacy and the idea that whites are superior and Asians, Blacks, Mexicans, or anyone who isn't a certain type of white (including Jews) do not have the same rights, such as free speech.

That is not okay and would be shut down in an instant if it were challenged in court.

Also, saying what basically amounts to, "The left keeps it alive by paying attention to it," is incredibly dense and dangerous to say. Racism is kept alive with that type of attitude and allowed to breed. When we take on these issues head on and combat them at the source, we will begin to shut them down.

I'm sure the US has Hate Laws, too, and it's also naive to believe that Free Speech has no limitations whatsoever.

Free Speech loses its "freedom" when it begins to infringe on the rights of others. Guess what these neo-Nazis want? They want to take away all the rights and voice of Asians, Mexicans, Blacks, Jews, etc. That becomes an issue. That is not okay and is not protected under Free Speech.
