The Well-Mannered Politics Thread

I'm not making it about "us and them." I'm simply putting up a comparison for Trump. If we're not allowed to compare Trump to past presidents, how can we measure his efficacy? Or are we not interested in measuring his efficacy? Is his rhetoric enough? Because he hasn't come close to fulfilling any of his campaign promises -- the lobbyist ban, the infrastructure deal, tax reform etc -- and Democrats are willing to work with him on those issues. I don't even understand how you thought I was making it a partisan thing when I was clearly talking about ability.

It's not "us about them." It's about grading the guy that half the country wanted. Are we getting return on investment?

By the way, can anyone here explain to me why Trump got the nomination over Kasich or even Cruz? I probably would've voted for Kasich over Clinton in the general due to his credentials, but Republicans didn't give me that chance. Why vote for the rookie when you can have the All Pro? This has irked me since the start of the primary. Never understood why Republicans wanted a neanderthal over a highly qualified pool of candidates.

First off on the "net" deal I agree with you and I take back my fake news comment but the number of Americans actively looking for work has fallen which is a plus plus for Trump.

On why people voted for Trump was his message that we needed better trade deals and stopping illegal immigration and I just believe people are getting tired of recycled politicians and their empty promises. Nobody can deny that Trump got a set when dealing with other leaders which to me is a good thing. Why are we the main ones footing everybodys bill? China wasn't doing anything with their emissions until 2030 and India was going to get billions of dollars to help reconstruct their infrastructure and we're also footing 80% of the defense for NATO. Wtf. He also got tough on companies continuously wanting to uproot and go to other countries (Ford and Carrier to name 2). Closing the border to me is very important since you just cant have running drugs and human smuggling operations running rampant with a lot guns being shuttled south. I don't want terrorist action becoming a normal way of living and just having to accept which open borders will cause in the long run. Then it came down to a point where the Repubs started trying to collude against Trump and that just looked ugly and I believe that just turned people more against the established politicians.

It did take the Dems 14 months I believe to get Obamacare passed so lets give Trump at least a year.

My 1st choice was Rand Paul btw

Lmao my first choice was Rand, too. I can get with either "agenda" if it's a smart solution, and Rand was probably the smartest guy in the candidate pool on most issues. He was probably too smart, and that's what hurt him. Glad we could agree on something for once, haha. I can get with most of the conservative agenda at the national level. In my perfect world, we'd have Rand Paul at president and folks like Bernie Sanders as the mayors of small towns. Localized tax dollars are tax dollars better spent.

I can see the issue with the trade deals, but if that's the issue, we're tripping over a quarter to pick up a nickel. Trade isn't the biggest reason the economy sucks. A lack of skilled workers trying to find work in an increasingly automated economy is the biggest issue in my eyes. A better trade deal might help alleviate that in the short term, but the long term question is asking how we can prepare our workforce for jobs in the 2020s and beyond. That's where our politicians and school boards have failed us -- by not doing enough to make education and re-education available for the young AND old. And again, when I say education, I mean job skills AND university education.

I would love to see vocational high schools make a comeback. You used to be able to at least have your journeymans licensce when you got out and you could either keep schooling yourself or enter the workforce. It gave lower graded students a leg up.

Now the automated thing is worrysome since businesses want production at the lowest possible cost which is killing manufacturing jobs. You're gonna need operators and mechanics for the machines but still its gonna become a problem for the unskilled and how they'll be subsidized or retrained.

The cost of these trade schools and colleges really need to be regulated so people don't get buried under a mountain of debt. Govt loans thru Fannie Mae and the like really need a cap of like 1.9%. Something affordable. Jeezus.

The notion that Clinton isn't qualified is dubious. Political scientists, reporters, pundits, and politicians alike all considered her one of the most qualified candidates in a long time. Definitely more qualified than Obama. She served as Secretary of State, and emails aside, she had a good run there. (If you blame her for Benghazi you should read about how Congress slashed her budget for embassy security). The president's most important job is foreign policy and defense -- it's the only role the states can't fill. She had that experience in her role as SoS.

Clinton won the nomination over Bernie because 1. The country isn't ready for a far left, democratic socialist, even though the bedrock of our country was created by democratic socialists called FDR and LBJ. and 2. Because Bernie is probably the least effective senator. He has accomplished next to nothing in his 20 whatever years there.

I do hope he does good work but I haven't seen anything that even gives me hope.

I totally get that, but that mindset is like taking Peyton Manning and asking him to pitch for a baseball team. You shouldn't take a football player to play baseball, and you shouldn't elect a non-politician to do a politician's job. Politics are a different animal from business. He's learning on the job, and this country doesn't have time for that.

I agree that Trump learning on the job has not been good and hopefully he is learning. I think that many Americans want our government to be run more like a business, being more efficient and less accountable to special interest group who contribute big money to politicians.

I understand how you feel about Bernie Sanders but to be fair the Senate has been ineffective as a whole. I would be interested in knowing if you think any current Senators are doing a good job.

While the Senate is ineffective as a whole, Bernie just has one of the worst bill passage ratios in the entire chamber. He's one of the least effective members of an ineffective chamber. I think he averages like, one bill passed every three years, whereas the average is 1-2 per year.

I like Senator Rand Paul. I like McCain. I don't like Cruz but I respect him and think he's good at what he does. Senator Mikulski was good. I'm looking forward to seeing how Maryland's own Senator Van Hollen does. He's a budget whiz and a skilled legislator, even dating back to his time in the General Assembly. I do like Elizabeth Warren. I liked her more before she started being the party's attack dog, but she's as good a legislator as anyone in the senate.

How's this for politics? Purpleflock ownership's politics on full display over on the other site:

http://baltimoreravens.boardhost.com/viewtopic.php?pid=922#p922

So before I get banned from here, which I am fully anticipating given the juveniles who run this site, just wanted to say goodbye AGAIN to my friends here. And if I do get banned, well, keep in touch with me over there on the Boardhost site.
Srsly? Sledge got banned? I just thought my ignore feature was working really well.

Jokes aside, that's stupid. Reinstate Sledge! Don't ban Fly!

apparently he mess around too many times and got the Draymond Green treatment from last years finals lmao

I would like to know this as well, this is a forum where you get a couple of warnings and all you need to do is chill lmfao

This is the internet lmfao

I have no clue. That post was completely out of the blue. The only interaction I have ever had with the guy that owns this site is:

1. to offer technical help, at no cost to him.
2. told him that something needs to be done about the Perriman thread.

That's it.

I bellyached once about the lack of moderation here, and asked why sledge got banned but not Sami. So I guess in his eyes, that warranted insults and a not so subtle ban threat. That is the type of person running this site. So I may just leave here even if he doesn't ban me.

Anyway, just wanted to let you all in on that conversation, because I want you all to remember that it is us who makes this place worth coming to. If the "administration" here doesn't treat you right, there are PLENTY of other sites that will. I'm not going to be waiting around on Kenny to get back to me much longer on what he wants to do about the other site, so I'll be putting together a Ravens community myself soon enough, one way or the other. Hope to see you all there when I do!

Yeah I checked out Sledge's name and I seen the post where he let Sami have it bit it seemed Sami took it in pretty good stride. lmao. Well it seems like he was only suspended not banned. Really don't know why he jumped you on the other site but after your response you made your point lol and hopefully you guys can work it out.

I still have boardhost on as one of my favorites but so far I'm liking this site since it seems like I can be more of myself.

Just curious, why can't you be yourself on the other site? The moderation is pretty much the same on both, while one has more activity than the other.

I guess you miss a lot of good action when you have people on "ignore".

Lol, yep. It also adds a layer of confusion, since this site, unlike br.com, is also ignoring the quotes of ignored posts. Few times I found myself thinking 'what the heck are these people talking about?' until I figured it out.

Well for starters they didn't want you to cuss and when I want too I want too. I just believe the moderation was going to be the same as the Ravens site and I like a looser surrounding and there would have been no political section imo.

people are really using the ignore button though? lmao

No matter how much I disagree with somebody I'm not ignoring them. 1st amendment rights. :D

This thread was alright now people are getting banned for things in here?
Not for things in this thread, no. Perriman thread. And to be fair, a suspension was appropriate. Although despite their reasoning, both people should have gotten the boot, not just one due to some point system. Some things are just common sense (you probably won't know what we're talking about if you didn't see that crap in the Perriman thread).
But my issue with this place is something completely different. Just a simple lack of any decency or professionalism from this site owner.
