Donald trump knows nothing of the farmer, plumber etc but talks about it all the time - that’s no different (in fact his viewpoint is less valid because he’s never lived the hard life at all)

And if people resonate with a celebrity I don’t see the problem with them influencing their fans - if they see a morally correct way to live then why shouldn’t they use their influence? If they are phony then their politics won’t survive long with countless “fans”

If politicians are allowed to campaign I don’t see why celebrities can’t either? If anything the celebrities are less likely to be biased than party members

And in terms of their views I have no problem with celebrities expressing a different viewpoint to the masses - that’s their prerogative as long as it’s not discriminatory I have no problem with celebrities pushing an agenda that I disagree with - it’s no different to opposing politicians doing the same - I may dislike them for it but I won’t begrudge them that platform because the very nature of that platform is that many people have decided they agree which validates the viewpoint - it’s why trump is taken seriously by the media - he’s a clown but a large number of people agree with some of his views therefore he can’t be ignored the same is true of any celebrity

They should have a voice but they should also stand by what they've said and they haven't. They said they'd leave the country. They lied. I cant respect people that openly lie. Be honest. Do you really believe policies will affect them??

I would actually argue that more celebrities should use their platforms to raise awareness for causes dear to their hearts.

They have a much larger voice than the average Joe and can reach millions of people with their message. All it takes is bringing awareness and getting someone to research and they've done their job.

If they were pro life, pro 2nd amendment you would be crying foul and saying the exact opposite. Entertainers should entertain. That's what made them famous. Not their political views.

you get paid to do something so do that, that is what gets you paid not political views (unless you are in politics)

Yes, because I have exhibited ignorance and expected that a citizen of the US should not exercise their rights to voice their opinion as they see fit.

This is what stopped my discussion with you before in this thread- you have pure ignorance in your mind and you really need to stop making any assumption about me just because you are that way yourself.

Entertainers should entertain and voice their opinions if they want to. I do not care if they have a drastically bigger platform than you could ever dream of; they can use that and should use that because they can reach far more people with their words than you ever could.

Man I'm not digging thru 100 pages of this forum but you falsely claiming the racists had no right to assemble in Charlottesville and view their minds. You was trying to liken it to "Fire" in a crowded movie theatre.

If that’s the case then you should be furious with trump who lies consistently and breaks promises all the time

It’s a bit hypocritical to call celebs liars and criticise them for it when all they “lied” about was leaving the country but defend trump who lies consistently and makes false claims repeatedly

Assembling for a rally based on hate would be an obvious exception to this rule... They were campaigning on the idea that whites are superior to blacks and that blacks should not have rights. That's a no go.

You're really going to want to check that one if you truly believe that... I'm sure I can find a compilation of Trump lying flat out, like his recent claim that he's passed the most bills in his first year.

Also, I have a friend who lives in Canada and she was talking about how Canada does not want US citizens for just any reason (especially not fleeing Trump) and how it is incredibly difficult to actually get into Canada, let alone become a citizen.

And further to this at one point can you call someone a politician? What about trump? When did he become a “politician”? Do you only become a politician when you run for office or do you become a politician when you’re in office? Trump was a celebrity and a businessman before he was a politician so it seems naive to suggest other celebrities might not in the future become politicians... what if Kanye West actually campaigns in 2020 or what if I were to go into politics in the future? Does that make my opinion or his opinion more valid - are our opinions right now invalid because we aren’t politicians...

In my opinion it’s a stupid thought process to suggest people outside of politics shouldn’t voice their opinion

The Westboro Baptist Church, for as disgusting as they are, to my knowledge are not campaigning to take the rights of citizens in the US away. So, yes, the Charlottesville protests, which rightfully got shutdown, are an exception.

You are ignorant as anything when you try to put words into my mouth and act like everyone is as closed minded as you. If you are going to make false claims about me, you better be damn ready to back it up.

Trump is a serial liar and even for things that can obviously be disproved - take his claim about the number of bills he’s passed, the amount of holiday he takes, the amount of people at his inauguration among many other things

I know you don’t like the Washington post because they’re more democrat minded but they just posted an article on one of trump’s most recent speeches and documented the validity of all of the facts and things he stated - I think they found that 25/37 of his claims (or something similar) were either lies, incorrect or deliberate warping of the truth
