Meanwhile, Donald still hasn't done jack shit about infrastructure, which our country needs drastically improved, despite Democrats being willing to work with him there. Donald is in this thing for one reason: to be on Fox News chyrons as much as he can and drive his brand. If he gave one shit about this country he would've done infrastructure on day one. Democrats told him the day he was elected they would jump at the opportunity to work with him on that, and here we are, still mired in a transportation system decades behind every other industrialized country. Good job, GOP.

By the way neither Mitch nor Ryan have done anything for infrastructure either.

I'm finding it increasingly difficult to think of things that the GOP has actually done to legitimately improve American lives. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

The GOP has had complete control of Washington for a full 12 months and has done nothing except tax reform that helped the rich more than the poor. They are incapable of governing. They have no interest in governing. They have no interest, or at least no ability, to help the American people and move the country forward. They are cheap charlatans, and if you voted for any of them at the federal level, you've been had.

Except you seem to be missing the part where Trump, Mitch, and Ryan have all publicly said they support Dreamers and would protect them. Seems like that's the makings of the deal, no? Seems a pretty good deal, too.

Congressional Republicans hate brown people so much they won't even protect Dreamers to keep the government open. That's all they have to do. It's not hard. Just reinstate DACA and the deal is done and the government is good to go for another month.

If protecting people that came here through no fault of their own in pursuit of a better life is one sided then we really have to re-evaluate who we are and what we stand for as a country. What the fuck ever happened to "Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free."

You are talking about two separate issues. Closing the government because DACA was not included is childish behavior . Deal with DACA next week but keep the government open.

DACA does need to be dealt with but
DACA should be handled with immigration reform. Are you against immigration reform? Are you against legal immigration?

You need to face the fact that the Democrats screwed up this time and it resulted in a government shutdown.

As I told you before, neither party is worth a crap.

All I got out of that is you're okay with the fact that the GOP hates brown people so much they won't protect children and people who have lived their entire lives here.

DACA already existed. We don't need wholesale reform to make it happen again. We do need reform. But it will never happen under GOP rule because the GOP wins elections on fear mongering about brown people. Thousands of children and lifelong Americans who have never known another life don't have time for the GOP to grow up and pass reform.

But hey, keep making excuses for the party of modern day racism. You are excusing the GOP for deporting Jorge Garcia, a 30 year resident of the U.S., who has lived here since he was 10, has a family, and has a job. If this is the hill you want to die on, if you want to be on this side of history, go ahead.

I am not a Republican and agree that DACA needs to be done, but closing the government because it not renewed is ridiculous.

Your statement about the GOP hating brown people is absurd. By your reasoning the Democrats must hate the 850,000 federal workers who will be furloughed.

If the dreamers were allowed to stay but never given the right to vote , would the Democrats care as much? Think about that and give an honest answer.

I do believe Republicans are more likely to work for immigration reform. Democrats seem very happy with the status quo where the the law of the land is blatantly ignored and anyone can cross our border illegally

How about you explain why Democrats didn't pass immigration legislation while you guys had complete control of everything during Obama's 1st 2 yrs of presidency. You guys had senate thruout his 1st 4 yrs.

Democrats don't want immigration reform cuz they would lose their racist. They're a bunch of do nothings.

It's not absurd. This is an easy fix. Let dreamers stay. Why not? That's all it's going to take to get the government going again. There is no rational reason to not reinstate DACA.

I shouldn't have to think about the possibility of citizens not having the right to vote. The mere consideration of that is preposterous and runs counter to the ideals of our founders.

If Republicans gave a shit about immigration reform, they'd do something. I mean, Trump made immigration a cornerstone in his campaign, he has Congress wth him, and the party has done nothing in a full year of complete power. The notion that Republicans are more likely to reform immigration policy is disproved by reality.

Could be wrong, but I think he was a little focused on revamping healthcare and getting us out of a fucking recession when we were in power. Immigration reform probably should take a backseat to fixing recessions, right?

Democrats are do nothings? Easily disproved by history. Doesn't take more than a high school education or even a cursory read of wikipedia to see that Dems are solely responsible for every lasting policy since the 1930s, from social security and medicaid to the Civil Rights act and ACA and damn near everything else. You still haven't told me what Republicans have actually done to improve this country. GOP has had a year to do infrastructure and they can't even do that. The GOP has no interest in governing.

That is just sad that we are under a shutdown because of that very childish reason. It's like they didn't listen to Obama when he himself said DACA was only meant to be temporary. The problem was Obama never said, this is temporary and here's what you have to do to become a permanent citizen legally. If he had said, this is what you have to do and gave the eligible people for DACA the blue print to become US Citizens I don't think we have this issue. Then again, considering how confident they were Hilary was going to win, he figured DACA would have been taken care of under her but then Trump won.

THIS! If the Dreamers are kicked out, they lose out on their illegal votes in 2018 and that's why they are fighting it. Which is also pathetic that they are more concerned with illegal votes than getting the votes of american citizens. Your also right on the last bolded part, which is what Trump is trying to stop and make sure the borders are secured again.

Come on brother the Republicans ended slavey and kept the Nation together, you have to admit that was a big improvement and contribution to our country.

to be fair i think you can assume he means the modern democrats/modern republicans given that the republicans that ended slavery bare very little resemblance politically (relative to those contemporary) democrats to their modern day counterparts

Yeah, but he credits the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to the Democrats when there was a higher percentage of Republicans in the House and Senate that voted for it, so I don’t see how the Democrats can take credit for that. President Johnson was one of the biggest racists ever.

It is certainly absurb. It was stupid when the Republicans shut down the government and is stupid now that the Democrats shut down the government.

Please remember neither party is worth a crap.

Just looking at some of his quotes are just sickening. I wonder just how many people are aware of how he felt towards blacks.

did any of you guys watch the film Selma?
i know that narratively they had to cut a lot of it but they seemed to treat johnson fairly kindly given who he was in real life...

in that film its less egregious

but i despise films like the darkest hour that get lauded and get worldwide praise for great performances based on real life characters that present representations of important national figures but then dont do justice to their character - take the iron lady as another example - great performance but in both it and the darkest hour the filmmakers almost wilfully avoid the sheer inhumanity of those leading figures and only present them as heroic...

it bugs me so much

Talk about cringe worthy! I heard he was just a vulgar man in general. I heard stories that he would urinate in the Rose Garden often. He also got us into the Vietnam War. I would would rank him as a bad president, although he was never elected.

You might want to take your own advice and Wikipedia who signed the civil rights bill. I've told you several times already and yet you continuously promote it as strictly a democrat bill. Social security is basically money we give to the govt to use interest free (like banks) while they decide how much we receive in return and its not willable when you die. Great plan!! The ACA was good?? Lol I'll leave that alone.

Republicans created our interstate highway structure system which btw Eisenhower also signed into law desegregation on interstate bus travel which was vigourously opposed by democrats. Thank you Robert Erlich for the creation of Rt 200 which runs from Laurel to Germantown area. As a transportation engineer I appreciates. We'll also take credit for the EPA and the EITC. Thank you. Thank you. No need for applause. Oh here's a good one. The fall of the Soviet Union and the freedom of Eastern Europe. Just a small sample my friend since you asked

Also look at your last 2 sentences and look at your 1st paragraph. Republicans worked on the falling apart ACA which should have been fixed but hasn't been. The much needed tax credit was also worked on. You know the one for the rich lol. You're more than welcome to donate your crumbs to your favorite democrat politician so he/she can turn around and tax the fuck out of you to support whatever social program they desire. You can also use 401k money for this also. They're working on immigration control while battling sanctuary cities/California who shelter illegal criminals. See my point is this is in one yr while dems had 2 yrs and again did nothing for dreamers/immigration reform. The infrastructure is in the works for 2018 to answer your main question that started this whole spiel

He also gushes about FDR who took Japanese/Americans into internment while taking their property.

I'm sure not many. A lot believe the war on poverty aka welfare reform is a great thing.

Lol. I've heard (not sure if its true or not) that he had meetings while sitting on the can.

This shut down is fucking bull shit. It better get resolved today. Congress shouldn’t be getting paid during this time. They shouldn’t even be able to shut down the government. They can all go fuck themselves. This shutdown is really screwing me as I’m in the process of becoming an ATC and the longer the shutdown the more it’s going to delay that.
