it's getting worse, it's been reported (I have not gone out of my way to investigate it yet) that there were 4 sheriff's deputies that hid during the shooting
So all these armed people were scared of going in against a guy with an AR-15 but apparently arming teachers with no real training is the solution

A lot of teachers have had training and are very familiar with firearms. Pistols can do a lot of damage too. Are they next? What needs to be done is figgering out how to protect public schools not trample on 2nd amendment rights. Have a policeman on duty during operating hours, limiting entranceways to get in, camaras in parking lot and surrounding building are just few ways to at least look at. What is the local govt wanting to spend?

See the thing to me is say they eliminate certain weapons all they're gonna do is move on to the next thing. It wont be enough. I promise you.

Of course I love the USA and whatnot, but holy shit if any of you want proof (I mean, do I really need to show proof?), go to ANY corporation's Twitter page who announced that they are cutting all ties with the NRA and read the comments (in this case, the replies, but semantics much?).

It's not about eliminating weapons completely, it's about making sure we make it more difficult to get them. This country has made it very clearly how important guns are to them. Remember, its freedom of speech first and owning guns second.

All amendments are equal and the law but I do agree that stiff background checks are needed. Really is it that much to wait a month or 2 for your purchase and I would start off with the gun shows.

Four cops "refused" to come to the aid of a school full of children.
This is why I choose to be armed.

I am not giving up my firearms for someone who may or may not protect me or my family.

Either these cops are the biggest pussies on the planet or there had to be some other ulterior motive (which still makes them pussies since they were trained for scenarios like this.......at least I think they were trained).

There should have been lock down procedures in place that the school resource officer should have known. I am not sure if there was training provided for active shooter in a school but how can you not go in? You can’t wait for QRT, they will take too long, so you go in and try to take out the shooter. To protect and serve, to me that means you go in. As the sheriff said, you go in and confront the shooter and try to stop the shooter. IMHO taking up a position in the parking lot is the cowards way out.

If there weren't any training, heads need to roll just for the incompetence itself. But let's say these cowards had the extensive training just for scenarios like I mentioned before, then I have this very strange feeling that they were told to stand down. Do I have any proof or evidence of this? Hell no, but it's just a thought. It just makes no sense that these individuals had this training (I'm just going to presume so just for the sake of this convo) and all of a sudden, they did nothing. There's definitely more to this that we're not knowing.

As for the sheriff, I'm honestly shocked that he isn't resigning. If anything, his recent quotes seemed like he's throwing them under the bus and taking little/no responsibility for this ordeal. The saddest part about all of this? I'm so numb to it. Nothing's gonna happen. Outrage will die down until the next shooting happens (unfortunately). Rinse and repeat.

I actually was unaware they released their memo until you told me.

it throws any nunes memo accusations right back in his (and trump's) face - it's fairly explosive tbh (far more explosive than the nunes memo in the first place - i cant remember who said it but this is pretty much the worst outcome of the whole palaver for the Nunes side - an act of self-harm)

Are you from Baltimore? If you are I know exactly why you suspect they were told to "stand down"
It made me sick then. It makes me sick to this day to think our leadership could say such a thing.
So, no, it is not out of the question. Sadly.

Even if they weren't trained....
I think we all can agree there are basically two types of cops out there. One type is a truly unique human being. Wired in a way most of us can not even comprehend. Will risk their lives day in and day out without a second thought to protect us. The other types just lives for huge dick contests.
I would like to think most are the first type. I would like to think the ones in Florida, at the very least, could not be content doing nothing.

I am not saying I would or I would not. CLearly, you never really know until you are in that moment, but I can guarantee you too things. At the very least, at the very minimum, I would *want* to go in there. Secondly, I would NOT DO NOTHING. ( I don't know what I would do, but, unless I am caring for my kid, I would do more than nothing. ) ( or I would like to think, again, most cops are simply wired differently than us )

Now correct if I'm wrong, but wouldn't an unclassified memo not have any redacted information as shown in this link below?:
