first no we arent - we are saying that it is far more likely that you get hits with more picks than it is with fewer picks
julio was 1 hit for 5 picks - three of those picks were in the first 2 rounds and none of the picks were below a 4th (purely from memory) - that's 5 great chances to get 3 or more good players most likely - and those first rounders have almost as high a chance to be a superstar as the top 10 pick for julio (even though i agree julio was definitely a sure fire hit coming out)

look at some worse examples like RGIII, ryan leaf, jeff george, ricky williams, herschel walker, sammy watkins and tell me that giving away that many picks is ever a good idea or risk worth taking given what happened to those teams and the tough spots they were put in because of these trades - of course a blockbuster trade can work out and i would condone it for a franchise qb because you are rarely going to pick one of them up outside of a top 15 pick and because of the ridiculous difference a qb makes (essentially deciding whether your team has a chance or not) but for a single non qb piece i just dont see how it could possibly be worth the risk
 
It's so, so, so easy to be couch GMs and 5 months later proclaim "He was my favourite player ever, Ozzie is an ass for not trading up to get him, you have to go and get your guy at some point".

First off, no he wasn't your favourite player ever, you just liked among others but since he's proven the best of the bunch you act like he was your guy all along.

Second, how many teams actually trade up in the first round to get a non QB prospect? Nearly none. Because you're going to get equal talent anyway, because every prospect is a diamond in the rough and when you talk about first round players they are all extremely talented and you can't narrow it down to one player. If there are 3 or 4 players you love when the team before you picks, why trade up?

Third, who the hell said Marlon wasn't Ozzie's guy all along? Why is it so impossible that he just got the one he wanted, or at least one of the guys he wanted the most? Hypothetically, if Ozzie had indeed traded his first and a 3rd round pick to get his guy who ultimately would be Marlon, what would you have said? Do you really think you can tell Ozzie why Hooker is a better prospect than Humphrey? Please don't, you'd get humilated to death.

And please just stop talking about "trade ups trade ups trade ups", that's not how you build a franchise and everyone who's thought about it for 2 seconds knows it.

last non-qb major trade up i can remember is the bills for sammy watkins - look at how that worked out given the wrs they missed by actively going up to get watkins - if they'd let watkins go they could have had OBJ or mike evans among many other talents at other positions that they severely needed at that point

What is weird though is that all the guys who are blaming Ozzie several monthes later rarely show up on the draft thread. I know who @JoeyFlex5 likes, I know who @Lost_In_Translation likes, I know who @rossihunter2 likes, so if they were to tell me about how they're frustrated, I'd listen. But for @Deebo813, whom I don't recall talking about draft to, or @Sledge Hammer (whom the only things I recall is that he wanted Nkemdiche in 2016) to say they had a better plan and knew all along who in this class would be All Pros, that's very, very easy.

I'll give it to @Sledge Hammer he was hyping Stanley late in the process. He was my #1 early on but once the bullshit "lazy rumors" started catching steam I bought into it lol. But oddly, after the draft he suddenly switched to tunsil and bashed Ozzie for it lol

But it's so easy to figure out. How could that have ever happened. NO GUARANTEES.

you mean like Andrew Luck. Injuries happen and there is no guarantees he comes back like he was. He may never live up to his draft hype now. Shoulder injuries are a difficult injury to recover from. Injuries derailed Julio Jones early on as well. As I said, there are no guarantees and if that player you trade up for has a major injury you are sorry and out of luck, because he didn't come with a return clause.
