Solid season? More like best performing corner in the entire league, how bout that? Because he legitimately was the best corner in the league this year.

Yeah trade that guy. That would be like the lions trading megatron, or the colts trading bob sanders.

Crazy to see how things can change over 2 season. Our top 2 corners are out. Obviously our backups aren't on the same level. But I'm still confident. I remember those Levine Melvin Gorrer and Webb days. Ozzie has done a great job fixing our CBs.

Yeah, I think it was the 2014 “State of the Ravens” presser where Oz and Co. stated clearly they wouldn’t put themselves in that “situation” again. After basically seeing the season melt away because of the poor DB play they knew they had to build depth at CB and bolster safety.

Even though Weddle has lost some physicality in his play it can’t be stressed enough how important his knowledge and experience have been in pulling things together with the secondary.

Sorry I know Tavon was having a terrific rookie year but he still would be #3 on the depth chart behind Carr imo.

It was after the 2014 season when we had all of the cb injuries. 2015 State of the Ravens

so i talked about this a little in the gameday thread but filmstudy has essentially confirmed my thoughts on the depth we now have in the secondary but its crazy that even with jimmy going down and missing tavon young for the year we still have an incredible next man up scenario at every position in the safety:

here's how @Filmstudy said it in his defensive notes:

Marlon Humphrey is next man up on the outside. However, even after this change, the Ravens still have an impressive next man up at every position in the secondary:

Outside corner: I assume the next up is Canady, with Hill taking over some SCB duties.

Slot corner: Hill is next up and Webb will likely continue to play in some circumstances.

Strong safety: Clark would be the most likely choice to have a combination of back end play, short zone, and run support.

Free safety: Webb would be my choice for the back end, but it wouldn’t shock me if either Canady or Clark was used in that capacity if something happened to Weddle.

Dime: After Sunday’s performance, Clark is the obvious choice.

Any of these would result in a downgrade to the current players as you would expect the loss of any starter to. But please go through in your mind the relative cost of losing Smith compared to losing Mosley or Stanley. The loss of either of the latter 2 would be Pompeii relative to the Springfield tire fire.

also our dime package might be the most lethal package in the NFL - like it legit scares teams and the lions running hurry up on 3rd downs just to stop us getting our dime defence on was case in point

IDK......I think Tavon may be an instant starter in the slot when he returns. He’s not only an excellent DB, he‘s also a hair on fire, beast of a football player. He’s the kind of guy every team wants on the field.

and canady has been so good the last 3 weeks in the slot that tavon's gonna have a fight and a half to see who gets the start there and who becomes backup at all 3 corner spots

I wonder though if Jimmy's injury though combined with Tavon coming back from injury force the Ravens to pick up the Carr option to be ready for the likely case scenario

I really like Canady. Thought he had potential when we drafted him. Very excited to see Hill hopefully get some action. Keep Webb the hell away from the CB position and we still have a very good CB lineup even without the best CB in the league.

if im honest even before jimmy's injury i wanted them to keep carr

I’m actually surprised Clark is getting some meaningful minutes on defense. I kinda wrote him off as a bad pick as I was pounding the table for a WR (isaiah ford). Let’s hope he keeps it up!

I do believe, as long as Young comes back healthy, he will be the starter in the slot, but I agree with Rossi he will have a battle on his hands. Not a bad thing thst we have talent in the slot. I’m not just talkin about Young and Canady, I’m also talking about Jaylen Hill
