2018 Secondary

I’m actually surprised Clark is getting some meaningful minutes on defense. I kinda wrote him off as a bad pick as I was pounding the table for a WR (isaiah ford). Let’s hope he keeps it up!
Yep, I wanted ford with the Clark pick as well, if this pick look like a good one for the future.

i was exactly the same: i didnt even have him on my big board because i had him outside the top 6 rounds - when they picked him i was like wtf? and fair play he's done his work on special teams and is now pushing anthony levine at dime backer - he's part of this team trying to add speed to the defence and im all for it if it works - if we managed to find another diamond defensive back in the 6th round in successive drafts ill be pumped

I do believe, as long as Young comes back healthy, he will be the starter in the slot, but I agree with Rossi he will have a battle on his hands. Not a bad thing thst we have talent in the slot. I’m not just talkin about Young and Canady, I’m also talking about Jaylen Hill

yeah i feel like jaylen hill's in a rough spot - his injury came at the worst possible time for him - he's obviously a good player but i wonder if he's on the worst possible team to get playing time at this point - that being said he's gonna be active the next 4 weeks no question and with canady likely playing outside a little more now i can see there being some slot snaps for him to fight webby for

but he's gonna have an uphill battle to earn playing time ahead of canady or young next year - his best hope might be for canady to play so well that he earns snaps outside or at safety - our dime package next year is gonna be even better than this year somehow i think

clark has already done way more than ford would have - ford cant even get on the field and clark is not only doing well on special teams he's now earning some of levine's snaps in the dimebacker spot (which is crazy given how great levine has been in that role)

I agree that the depth we have has made it difficult form Hill to get playing time. That being said, Canady has been really good and I’d hate to mess that up and move him outside again.

Yep, he could end up being another steal

i dont necessarily mean to take him out of the slot full time i just mean that occasionally we might want to spell carr/humphrey with canady in the same way we spelled jimmy/carr with humphrey which would provide an opportunity to get another promising young db some snaps that would add even more team speed to the defence in the same way clark spelling levine adds speed

Ah, got it

in dime especially there's probably a way to have both hill and canady on the field given that canady has traits that would allow him to roam the middle of the field a little (has been touted by some media as a potential future safety - not sure id want to take him out of the slot anytime soon tbh but in dime he is an interestingly versatile/flexible db)

Maybe we should ask sledge

We'll have a logjam of solid slot corners next year - Canady, Hill, Young - and will probably have to figure out who is going to play outside after Carr, most likely, leaves.

I’m not sure Carr is going to leave this coming season. Before the Jimmy injury I didn’t think the team would take his option, but now I do.

i cant see us not picking up carr's option at this point - i thought we might pick up carr's option before jimmy got injured again and i think jimmy's injury + suspension proves that we should

i think if all 3 of canady, hill and young enter camp healthy then webby might find himself at risk of losing his roster spot especially if chuck clark keeps improving and earning more snaps

i thought they should pick his option up before the injury and was campaigning for that mode of thought but didnt know if realistically they would but now i feel like they definitely should

I'm not sure Carr's status would be affected by Jimmy's injury - #22 has more than enough time to get ready for training camp.

my point is... look how crucial it is that we have carr now...
and i dont know that they necessarily werent going to keep carr before jimmy went down - i just think that jimmy going down emphasises how good of a pickup carr was and should continue to be for at least 1 more year

I always wanted us to keep Carr, dunno why everyone is in such a rush to ship off a solid veteran starting caliber cb.

I've heard many mention that canady has a potential FS skill set, I haven't watched any film on him nor have I been watching games with an analytical eye, could anyone confirm if canady has this skill set? Being able to get canady, hill, and young on the field at once provides lots of instincts and ball skills from some highly athletic young guys

I remember few pre draft reports on him saying just that. Good range and solid tackling.

I watched tape on Canady during the Forum mock in 2016 and liked him as a cb and feel he has the necessary attributes to be a solid cb as well. I’m going to have to go back and watch more tape on him.

I do remember he was beaten many times for touchdowns in 2014 at Virginia, but improved tremendously in 2015, due to playing with much more discipline.

You may have liked him but I drafted him!
