Lamar Jackson, the Miscommunications, and the Refs

Thought it was a good game. I'm optimistic about this team but I think they should just have Ben Cleveland start at right guard and Roger R start at right tackle going forward. Wish Lamar passed were a bit better on some throws but I think this team will be fine once the offensive line settles in .

First and foremost fuck the refs, that was some horrible officiating, between the illegal formation penalties and not calling the play dead on the pacheco TD run this game was horribly officiated.

But, despite all of the ref bullshit, Defense absolutely lost us this game. The two wasted timeouts and the blown coverage on the touchdown were the difference in this game.

I think that the o-line will be about as good as it was last season and we're going to need to have Ricard on the field for 40% of offensive snaps if we want to move the ball.

Zach Orr had zero adjustments for Rashee Rice shallow crosses. Kept putting a linebacker on the dude. Like bro, I get your a former linebacker.. but that shit was killing us all game
This killed me, but it’s also the Chiefs doing what the Chiefs do. They were able to recognize the coverage and exploit it. I would guess that as that unit gels a little more, there will be more disguise. Felt kinda vanilla tonight

Very happy with what I saw. We played like absolute dogshit on both sides of the ball. Were completely out coached. Hugely penalized. Had turnovers. Were on the road. Abandoned Henry. Etc etc and we probably should've won.

Harbaugh and Monken need to get their heads out of their asses. Orr needs to grow up really fast.

We need to be honest with ourselves about who should be out there on the OL.

Not sure faalele should be starting

We HAVE to be less predictable with Henry’s presence on the field and what that means, we rarely passed with Henry and frequently found ourselves in a position where we can’t threaten the run, we have to coordinate better there

Lamar needs to sharpen up, he could’ve won us this game, yeah he kept us in it, but he could’ve finished it many times and just snatched defeat from the jaws of victory at the end, that said, I think we’re in for a huge season from him

Zach Orr needs to mature quickly

Our situational coaching is once again a terrible joke for a so called contending team, it’ll never happen in season but I’m on the fire harbaugh train, he is putting out a shit product despite some of the best talent in the league

Our defensive front looks pretty damn good, secondary had some miscues but they also looked damn good, rashee rice on roquan smith all first half killed us and I would’ve thought Ro could’ve handled that better

Isaiah Likely, as I said all offseason, is gonna raise a lot of questions with Andrews, who does not look like the same guy

Madubuike is still a monster, no worries there

Oweh isn’t the best pass rusher but is one hell of a 3 down edge

Trenton Simpson looks good

Stanley, mekari, and vorhees all looked pretty good, which is super encouraging, please stop rotating OTs, please replace faalele with Cleveland

Less screens, its out of control, hit zay on drags and slants if you wanna get him YAC opportunities, run him out of bunch formations with picks

Henry and Lamar was working as a dual run threat, figure this shit out, it should be a staple of our offense, I really don’t love how monken called tonight’s game

Ultimately, I fear that losing this game is going to basically seal our fate this year, I don’t think we would be able to see the chiefs in the playoffs and do anything but flail around, it’s all we ever do when we play them, and I think they’re just gonna be even more in our heads if we see them again

I know a lot of fans will be upset at Lamar for how the game ended, but looking at the game as a whole, the offensive line is my biggest concern.

They were able to settle in long enough at the end when they were getting a lot of help, but man, they were bad. I had worries about how Henry would fit in the Ravens primarily shotgun, RPO offense, but figured he'd make the offensive line less of a concern after what he dealt with in Tennessee. I was wrong. They were downright offensive.

In the first half, Lamar had an ADOT of about a yard, according to the announcers. That's not because Lamar doesn't want to take shots, but the line couldn't hold up. So many people were calling Monken dumb, but... he was calling plays within the confines of his offensive line.

Really, fuck EDC for neglecting the offensive line so hard. I understand there were cap constraints, but the man saw last season that Lamar won an MVP with a fully loaded offense (by Ravens standards) and... largely let it go.

Also, what the hell was up with the illegal formations? I saw Jawaan Taylor lining up as a running back (and jumping early) and the Chiefs don't get called, but the Ravens line up with their feet an inch too far back and it's a penalty. What the actual hell, man? It makes it really hard to get good play calling and into a rhythm when you're consistently behind the chains due to ticky tack penalties.

I think if you look at the game as a whole, you're a fool to come away blaming Lamar. Lamar was doing everything he could within the confines of the play calling and piss poor offensive line. The man was going all out to do everything to mitigate bad circumstances. Yes, the Likely corner miss was really bad, but I'm not going to let a handful of bad throws taint my view of his body of work this game.
99% agree. Agreed with all but Monken was additionally unhelpful. Yes he was trying to do what the OL could handle but play action was working and he abandoned. He telegraphed the fuck out of run vs pass with usage of Hill vs Henry. He was very bad himself in addition to what you said.

Lamar shouldnt ever have to play like that in order for us to win.. unless its a playoff or SB game. Oline is what i thought, ass. Defense, idk, hope we dnt have to just rely on players to make plays with no scheme nor adjustments like eagles defense last season. I didnt see hamilton much.. also, did we do any dline stunts? I saw 1 which resulted in a bad pass but thats it

It’s been like this for years now on offense.

My friend sent me this, he saw this online in regards to the Zay miss in the end zone. It's easy to blame Lamar but if you look back, Lamar clearly threw it where he expected Zay to stay. Zay for some reason kept running...

Agree with everything except the last paragraph

Also major shoutout to Justice Hill. That dude is a fucking gamer. Goes from being one of the only lifelines early in the game to taking (and largely handling) Chris Jones 1-on-1 on the final drive.
Yea WTH?! That was awesome. + shout out to likely for punishing him and putting him on his ass play after play.

Anyway I thought this team couldn't win a SB. It absolutely can. We played like dogshit on the road in Week 1 and should've won. We are gonna be alright.

I never thought this team couldn’t win a superbowl but this lose came with a sense of optimism. Like you said we played like shit and still should have won. We have so much to work on, the outcome will not be the same the next time we see them.

Zach Orr had zero adjustments for Rashee Rice shallow crosses. Kept putting a linebacker on the dude. Like bro, I get your a former linebacker.. but that shit was killing us all game

His adjustments eventually came but they took too long. It also didn’t work on one rep, where ZO eventually dropped the FS down as a robber but Mahomes was able to hold the ball a tick longer and he hit Rice in the window behind the safety.

I need to watch the OL again because damn LJ was running around all night. Rosengarten got embarrassed on his first snap.

I understand the roles of Henry and Hill but Monken needs to learn use both backs in their opposing roles even as decoys. Use Henry as a receiving option at times, or keep him in to block. I felt like you said it was waaaay to obvious.

What was the deal with Andrew’s? I thought LJ just locked onto Flowers and Likely. Did Andrew’s not look as crisp?
