Lamar Jackson, the Miscommunications, and the Refs

i just want to reiterate that 24 OL went before our 3rd round pick - the board got absolutely wiped out there

think we would have definitely looked at Christian Haynes or Dominick Puni at 93 if they'd made it

Maybe we should wait a few games before condemning the O line strategy. But I will say the potential fly in the ointment here is the unfortunate and untimely passing of Coach Joe D.

100% - that's a huge loss in all sorts of ways
the only upside (if you can call it that) is that they clearly knew this was a possibility and had some contingency plans in place

cant rely on Zeitler forever and the cap is tighter this year than it's been in years - you keep Zeit and you have to cut Mekari or Ricard (or both) and that's only if he we convince him to re-sign for the same deal in February (before his void years tolled) - if we let him hit the open market and then sign him for the deal he's on now then we're looking at giving up at least 3 of Mekari, Ricard, Van Noy, Maulet, Agholor

i think they were hoping that one of the OL would make it to their 3rd round pick
i think, failing that, they were hoping that out of Sala, Faalele, Cleveland (and maybe Josh Jones) that someone would prove themselves at least an ok option

the other part of this is that they were gonna have to rip the bandaid off one year or another - next year we might be looking at a new LT (or switching Rosengarten there) which means at least 1 and maybe 2 new OL next year as well - if you have Zeit for this year then you're again potentially looking at 3 new OL starters next year and you're just pushing the problem down the road

if Faalele is still the starter at the end of October and he still sucks then i think maybe we'll be in the market for a rental (if we can find one) or a high quality OL (if one's available... unlikely) but we are financially pushed up against it to make anything happen this year in season
Agreed with all of this. It doesn't look like a great decision right now, and it may never look like a great decision if Faalele doesn't figure it out, but it had to happen eventually. It's obviously a struggle early but Linderbaum is Linderbaum, Stanley looks more like his old self, and Vorhees and Rosengarten both showed signs.

Basically, I get the concern. I have concerns too. But EDC was very pointed that you can't just keep veterans year after year. Sometimes the cap plays a part and sometimes you have to let the young guys sink or swim. Faalele may sink but they'll never know unless they give him a chance to develop. And that extends to other players too obviously.

C’mon man that’s one game worth of stats. lol. 3 kicks.

Tucker to me looks fine. The stat about him missing from 50 plus out is concerning but something nobody is talking about is just how week our special teams unit has been for a few years now......

I could be off, but my eyes tell me that the defense special teams is getting to our kicker much faster then I am used to seeing. It's been like this for a while now.

Anybody else notice this?

nope - we had a down year when jerry rosburg left and then it was right back to the top of the NFL again

And maybe they're not wanting Henry to run a ton behind this O-line before they start to come together? Would be nice to have him as healthy as possible for the playoffs.

You watch guys like andy reid and BB and see how they scheme guys open in bunch/offset formations.. motion plays which will allow a qb to help read the defenses better.. the wrs who usually cant fight off a press, seem to always have free releases their schemes.. its probably harder than it sounds but it makes you wonder why tf our offense always struggle when theirs look so simple yet difficult..

Tucker has not looked comfortable on long kicks for a while now. We can't seem to keep guys away from him. We've been blocked a few times too

what the hell is harbaugh good for

That hide Zay behind the line was actually gonna work, potentially go for a TD, but dumbfuck Agholar just whiffs. Then again who am I kidding, refs calling a pick OPI guaranteed

if he had made any of these horrible throws and decisions Hurts and the highest paid QB in the league are doing right now he’d be crucified even more.
Hurts is getting crucified lately but the difference is what the player is viewed as. Hurts is viewed as the 9th-16th best QB in the NFL whereas Lamar is at worst top 4 and a 2x MVP. The standard is simply different.
