I'm still willing to give Elias a chance to correct his mistakes in the offseason. But if he doesn't make any changes, it will be hard to believe in what he's doing
I can agree that he should have been more aggressive signing 1 more quality starter, but Elias is not the reason the team is floundering.Hyde used analytics and information from Elias and Sig. Poor roster construction is 100% on him.
Would seem the plan was to mix in experienced guys with young aces. Unfortunately, young pitchers get injured too.Honestly, the other thing I don't like about the FA signings this year is the one year term of them. The whole staff as it exists now is gone at season's end. Maybe one left over or two who are still injured now, but it's a skeleton staff at best. I was hoping for a little more money spent after Burnes fell thru to get us some time to adjust to the injuries.
And btw, I've read all the stuff about Burnes too. He was going to sign a deal close to the West Coast almost from the beginning. the Orioles might have had the best offer for a period of time, but I think they always had their limit - obviously they did because they didn't completely break the market to get him.
Nevertheless, there was little to no talk about interest in other pitchers during almost the entire duration of "having money on the table" with Burnes. And the guys they signed in the end were typical of the Elias FO - great upside and a little cheaper than others. Problem is, the upside they have been counting on amounts to the best years these guys have pitched. That's not upside to me, that's wishful thinking. They needed 2 legit number twos. They haven't gotten that and the guys they did are probably more in the 3-4 range at this point of their careers... and old pitchers get injured.
But the hitting has, indeed, been atrocious. I predicted to my wife when she asked what they were going to do because they weren't winning: They're going to fire the hitting and pitching coaches. I think I might have liked that a little better, but heads were gonna roll, you could feel it.
Maybe not the entire reason, but it is ultimately his responsibility the team went from 101 and 91 wins to being on pace for 50-60 ish wins.I can agree that he should have been more aggressive signing 1 more quality starter, but Elias is not the reason the team is floundering.
He's been great, but the problem is for the most part he's the only one who has been pitching well.Don't understand why Sugano isn't getting more luv, dude has been pitching really well.
...and somehow they're all injured... It's just too fishy after last season.Would seem the plan was to mix in experienced guys with young aces. Unfortunately, young pitchers get injured too.
The bigger story is Mateo spelling Mullins. I think come the trade deadline Mullins is gone.
This is just the language of, "We are investigating serious trades at this time, so just because they are on the IL, it doesn't mean they aren't ship shape, but we don't want them "really" injured before you get them."Both Ced and Mountcastle to the 10 day IL. The hits just keep on coming. smh
I’ve always liked the A’s uniforms, wonder if there’s a chance they keep them when they move to Vegas....and it's on to the A's - my second favorite team - who have been similarly uninspiring for the beginning of the season. Hard season to get excited about until recently.![]()
idk, but I hope they keep them and the colors. I like the Vegas colors with the Raiders' traditional black and silver and the Golden Knights with the black and gold, but I hope they hold onto the green and yellow and some of the old logos like the elephant. Those 70's teams the A's had with the wild colors and mustache crew were so cool to watch as a kid - then to my horror they were the O's kryptonite, yet I couldn't help but love the off balance personalities and look. When Reggie came to the O's I was so excited. Then he betrayed us and went to the evilest empire ever known to mankind...I’ve always liked the A’s uniforms, wonder if there’s a chance they keep them when they move to Vegas.
