Week 8: Lamar, Our Hands, and The Coaching

With mike you saw flashes.. we had a problem with finishing but you saw flashes of how great he was gonna become. I dnt think i ever doubted mike but orr on the other hand is not good yet.. jmad ass too

I think Zach Orr has shown flashes as well..his best game was against the Bills. I would say he did a sold job against the chiefs and even the commanders as well. I just think Zach Orr gets more heat because Lamar and the offense in general is playing the best we have probably ever seen.

- Usually the QB is the one holding the team back, unfortunately, with this franchise, the Team manages to let the QB down. I'm not absolving Lamar of the two missed throws to Zay and Likely, but overall he played a great game and did his best to win. Offensively, it's a tough match up because Cleveland has the personnel to give us fits. The OL struggled, and they really did a good job in getting us out of running the football.

- The WRs are proving to be the weak link of the skill position group. Bateman can get all the separation he wants, that means nothing if you can't catch the football. Let's not forget he dropped a pass that led to an INT vs the Raiders. His drops are a problem, kinda sad since strong hands was considered one of his strengths coming into the draft. Just when you think he's turning the corner, he gives you a reason to doubt him.

-Zay Flowers is a dawg. He needs to keep being fed. He played on a bum ankle and was still cooking the Browns DB. He's super talented, he's a WR1 and needs to be treated like one.

-Lamar Jackson is still the best QB in the league, I don't care what anyone else says. This defense is wasting one of the best seasons we've ever seen from a QB.

-This is the worst defense in Raven's history. Jameis Winston who hasn't started a game since 2022 threw for over 300 yards and 3 TDs. Guys wide open, busted coverage, free releases off the LOS with no one in coverage, miscommunication, unable to make plays on defense when the ball literally hits your hands(That drop by Hamilton was inexcusable). You want to hear something crazy? DVOA ranks this defense 13th in the league. I don't know what they hell they did to come up with that conclusion by they need to re-evaluate that. It's just a bad unit overall and the run defense has been slipping a bit.

-The pass rush this year is so disappointing. Ojabo is looking like a draft bust, Oweh didn't take advantage of lining up against a back up LT, I mean...we couldn't do anything against that guy. Whole left side of the field got shut down. This pass rush is a massive disappointment.

-Orr is not cutting it. I don't think you can compare it to Mike MacDonald during his first year. McDonald's first year was nowhere near this bad and the defense also had a lot of new pieces and transitioned to a new scheme. Orr has a luxury compared to what McDonald had to deal with in year 1.

- We have a Super Bowl level offense, but unfortunately this defense is going to cost us. We won't make it there because the unit on the other side is so bad. I wonder how bad this pass defense is compared to historically bad pass defense.

The Browns had their best day on offense all season. Yards points efficiency. We're ranked dead last in passing offense and continue to have blown assignments. with basically the same personnel we've gone from a top defense to one of the softest. Players need to make plays. They dropped picks but what I see from playcalling is someone hoping and praying it works. On top of that we don't look like we run a complicated defense but that's only from watching games live.

And yes there were a couple of calls I didn't like but leave Monken alone. Turn on a chargers game or look at our defense to remember how bad coaching can get.

Or look at Harbaugh...

I feel like the bolded has been really understated. Feels like all of our CBs are playing 10 yards off and then they run a curl, pick up 7 or 8, and make it a 2nd and short that quickly. Rinse and repeat. There's something off philosophically, because the Ravens defense I know is up in a motherfuckers face.

We wouldve beat bills with marcus peters as DC.. if we played bills again, we probably lose

I mean, if he leaves I won't be sick about it, but he's far from the problem.
If he leaves we are in trouble.. unless we getting BB and CO.. no first OC taking us to the bowl so its likely gonna be another wasted year that we couldnt get there

Marcus Williams needed benching either way. He is absolutely NOT doing his job and that’s a bullshit response on his part. Orr is doing a god awful job, but Orr isn’t making Williams absolutely shit the bed on his reads. He hasn’t picked up a receiver in his zone in time all year
Yeah his play was not justifying him being on the field. Benching him was the right move, unfortunately Eddie Jackson is ASS too. Let's put Beau Brade on the field. He can't be that much worse.

Really missing Geno Stone right now. We should have kept him, I really don't care how bad he's playing on the Bengals right now dude legit looked like an All Pro last season when he was starting in place of Marcus Williams last year.

Geno Stone is trash too (shout out @Deebo813) but at least he got lucky to be in the right position sometimes and could catch a fucking ball.

This is my problem... why were we playing so far off on a 3rd & 7. When we played Dallas, we played press all game with great success. I don't understand why we play so far off when the game is on the line.

I just don't think it's that black and white. I agree that Orr has to do what he can to get it corrected but the players are not doing their jobs either.
I agree. The player aren’t executing well.

I do have to say there really hasn’t been a great defensive game by the Ravens. The Bills was the closest. I do think the communication looked better today out there on the field. Not sure if anyone else saw it that way but I didn’t see guys looking lost.

I honestly am getting vibes we have some locker room issue. The defense doesn’t really look bought into things. It’s very very weird. I’m just being entirely speculative but I’m getting a sense that there is some drama going on here. Marcus Williams could be apart of it since communication looked better with him out of it today.

It's up to the CBs on how close they want to play the WR. Stephens and Humphrey (Occasionally Wiggins) from what I seen are the only ones who feel comfortable pressing the WR. Press coverage is harder to accomplish now then before and if you don't have the recovery and technique to adapt to when things go wrong...well...then you have what we've been dealing with which is the big plays. I wouldn't trust any of those guys to be honest, unless its Marlon Humphrey or Brandon Stephens, not to mention the free safety play this season has been atrocious. Aside from that, the LBs have been AWFUL in coverage, Roquon shows blitz, but is way too late at dropping back into coverage.

I really think they need to go back to what was working last year. Playing Stephens and Marlon on the outside, with Hamilton in the slot to coverage Slot WRs and TEs.

I think Belichick alluded to the idea that we don't trust our CBs to play man, so maybe to your point there's something schematically that is up. Guys just raise their arms up and look confused every time a big play happens.

Dean pees used to do that alot

Ahhh we'll be fine. You're going to lose coordinators. You have to learn how to adapt, the great teams and organizations learn how to do that. I think with the talent we have on offense we will be fine.

Losing McDonald on the other end was a disaster and coordinator changes effect a defense more then an offense IMO.

I won't speculate on what's happening behind closed doors, but I agree with your assessment based on what I'm seeing on the field. No one looks like they care. Just going through the motions. No fire. No passion. Except Kyle Hamilton, who is the only one I feel week after week is going out there to fuck up the dude across from him.

The way stephens been getting abused, id rather have wiggins in man than him

Originally I was against the idea of bringing in another receiver but that drop from Bateman was the last straw for me.

Biggest issue we have is pass rush
communication on defense
execution - dropped INTS lack of play making
o-line penalties

Robert Saleh is available.
