Week 8: Lamar, Our Hands, and The Coaching

When was the last time (don't use earl because he was being an off field degenerate) that we signed a MW like contract and had to bench him?

We sent 6 or 7 on that last play and Winston still had a clean ass pocket. I don't even think I can really blame Jackson for that last one.
 
In fairness to Orr, it wasn't his fault that they dropped 4 interceptions yesterday. Instead of scoring 29 points, maybe they only score 14 if we had defensive backs who can catch a damn football. As much as this league favors offense and passing, you just can't miss opportunities when you get them. Yesterday was 100% on the players, not Orr or Monken.

Yeah I mean, we're at the point where any trade addition isn't going to fix it all by himself. There are deeper rooted problems. We can absolutely improve a position with a trade, but until they figure out what ails them now, that impact is likely to be smaller than we all want.

Yes its hard to see it any other way. Yesterday was not about coaching.

Nah I disagree. You can’t have a backup QB go for 334 and 3 touchdowns when their WR room is Cedric Tillman, Elijah Moore, and Jerry Jeudy. I understand the Minshew game more than I understand this game. Brock Bowers, Jakobi Meyers and Davante sure. I would understand if the defense didn’t allow 250 yards, and the team found a way to lose, but this defense makes it too easy.

Monken had a solid game outside of the dumb 4th down call. I think he’s a solid coordinator. We just can’t take the ball out of Lamar’s hands. It made sense in Tennessee when Tannehill was the QB, but you have a quarterback in the MVP race.

Except calling him a backup is insulting. He is objectively better than their starter. Also this is why I was worried about this game all week. How many times in the past 2 years have we seen a backup come in and the offense look explosive for a couple games? By my count it is 6 so it is clearly a fairly common occurrence. It is more common when the QB being replaced is not playing like a top 75 QB.

Don’t get it twisted, I’m not saying the defensive players aren’t at fault, they definitely are. But we can’t overlook how bad the Orr experiment has been and will continue to be.

Add in the missing 4 players and there wasn't much room for those errors. Frustrating...
 
Feel like y'all are still making it too black and white. Orr has his issues, but he was also dealing with a depleted CB room while also making a decision earlier in the week to bench one of the top earners on the team for poor performance. The players have issues, but they are also clearly not vibing with the defensive scheme and are not being put in positions to win. Neither side is to blame or exempt for blame. They share responsibility.

And that's just this week. The analogy can extend for the whole season with slight variations of where each side fucked up.

It was different last year when Watson diced up the #1 defense and it was an outlier. Giving up 365 yards a game and over 26 points per game is a trend. If Lamar doesn’t score 30 the team doesn’t win, if the defense doesn’t get a turnover the opposing team scores 30.
