The Defence, the Turnovers, and the Tucker

Even that deep shot to Nelson where he actually high pointed a ball and came down with it was reversed due to a penalty. Is this team serious?
That was a bullshit call. Mekari was 1 yard beyond and tripped over someone and fell forward

I do really like the "new look" secondary though. Washington was pretty dialed in at S, and dime packages put 4 corners on the field instead of another shit S. As I suspected, they had moments in dime where Stephens was in the slot but took a deep zone as a S traditionally would.

we have 2 bogeymen, and the way we go into games against them just makes the inability to get past those 2 teams self-fulfilling

I got laughed at last year. But I've been saying this for a long time. We have a coaching staff that is mentally weak. They're scared and they don't even believe in themselves. This trickles down and you get self fulfilling proficies.

Good teams have all the confidence in the world. We don't have any.

You can't win a SB with this coaching staff. Harbs and Monken ain't it.

John: Well got to cut down on penalties....

It took you how long to figure out this was a problem? We've known this for YEARS. Bring in Belichick... then we'll be disciplined again.

On a note outside of the game itself this is really bad for Lamar getting his 3rd MVP. Frustrating because that INT was complete bs (or at least it being considered an INT on Lamar is bs), but between the pedestrian game and falling to the 5 seed its going to be problematic for getting those votes. Basically have needed the 1 or 2 seed to be MVP in the past decade and meanwhile Allen has a chance to beat Mahomes which is going to get him a lot of consideration and the Lions absolutely stomped today, with Goff having insane numbers. The Ravens basically need to somehow pass the Steelers in the division, and ideally

TBH, who gives a shit about an MVP.

Offensively, it'd be nice to see someone step up on a day when Lamar is having an off day. Lamar certainly didn't have his best day, but the rest of the offense absolutely let him down, too. The offense obviously goes as Lamar does to an extreme level.

Two fumbles that gave short fields and led directly to 6 points. Offensive line was a penalty machine today and put so many drives into unfavorable down and distance. Piss poor drops from the receivers. The Steelers are an extremely good defense and you just cannot make mistakes like that, especially that many, if you want to win the game.

Again, not saying Lamar had a good game because he started really unsettled and seemed very antsy to start, but way too often he was running for 10 seconds and no one got open and way too often he houdini'd out of would be sacks. He played better than the box score shows.

Really bad day from the entire offense, but it'd be nice to see the offensive line, running game, or receivers step up when Lamar isn't playing his best.

On a brighter note, hopefully this is a sign of things to come from the defense. They really only allowed four field goal drives when you consider the two fumbles essentially guaranteed field goals given field position. Of course, Buffalo was a stellar game and that didn't keep on, but here's to hoping...

I will say- big props to Orr for adjusting. I don't love Hamilton playing deep because it does limit his ability to be an elite play maker, but let's worry about being an average defense before seeking ways to be an elite defense. This seemed like a positive step.

100% to all of that. They can do 1 more thing. Continue phasing White in more and more

can't really be called a rivalry when it's been this one-sided...

we've won once in the last 9 games against them

You win games vs Steelers by discipline and running the fucking ball through their throats. Play smart and eat time, keep the D fresh. Although, Steelers are so trash on offense, D did not have to be really fresh to stop them. I absolutely hate Monken's refusal to put the ball in Henry's hands enough and call more Lamar designed runs.

Of the Ravens last 6 games 4 are against playoff teams. Of the Steelers last 7 games 3 are against playoff teams and the Ravens need the Steelers to lose two more than the Ravens do down the stretch (at the moment the Ravens do have 2 division losses now after all).
True. The point is though, divisional games are different. The Bengals could beat the Steelers, once, if not twice, as they fight for their playoff lives.

I am not sure you can watch this game and pin it on him when we had 3 turnovers and 2 missed FGs. 2 fumbles both lost and an INT that was wrestled out of the receivers hands. Once again issues with drop. Once again led the opposing team with 12 penalties most being on that shit O-line.

Running for his life back their because these guys were not getting open. Tucker makes just one of those FGs and we win this game. That Likely fumble spotted an offense an easy 3 when they had trouble moving the ball for most of the game.

We aren't going to win games pretty all the time but we have shown time and time again that we don't win the ugly ones. This game was 100% winnable if we had any semblance of discipline on offense.
I’m not saying it’s all on him. He once again was let down by his team, so don’t think I’m pinning it all on him. However, he had multiple missed throws and repeatedly threw the ball into a rushers hand, he’s gotta stop missing the throws when they’re open, because those opportunities are so limited against these good defenses, you cannot miss them when they present themselves.

If you’re a guy of Lamar’s caliber, you gotta hit those throws in big games. Regardless of what other players do on other snaps, when those opportunities arise you gotta hit them.

Also if this team actually had NFL guards, the whole thing is different. You probably are unstoppable.

Its just crazy to me we get Henry when we don't have the line. Everyone knew the OL was gonna be a problem. The penalties are because they are tying to compensate or are losing.

Those consistent penalties are huge drive destroyers.

I have no idea what to even make of Tucker's struggles right now. I know there have been a number of people trying to pin it on Stout, but nothing has changed on that front from last year to this year as far as the idea of him crowding the ball. It's on Tucker, plain and simple.

I'm hard pressed to believe there's any better K available right now, but I do think you at least need to start considering contingencies - maybe a workout that results in a PS signing. It's extremely tough to say that, but it may unfortunately be reality until he can figure out the issues. I'm still betting he'll be the Tuck we know when it matters, but I don't know that we can count on that.

He wasn't the consensus pick... Brock Purdy was miles ahead of everyone until around Christmas when Lamar started lighting it up and Purdy had the terrible game against the Ravens.
I mean the odds, prior to his Bills game, had Dak as favorite (I remember because I made my bet on Lamar to win MVP shortly before that game because I do not think T2 QBs win MVP because the voters are looking for a reason to knock you down). The debate for Purdy was "is it Purdy or is it CMC" so he had no shot and everyone knew which is why just about every single talking head had Dak has the MVP, and the oddsmakers followed, many, and this was hilarious to me, calling his 8 game run "one of the best in NFL history by a QB". If the season ended prior to that Bills game he has MVP locked in, but then he played bad against the Bills and the next week Purdy was bad against the Ravens and then Lamar stomped and was dominant against the Dolphins and that was the end of the conversation.
