Next Up: Bye Week

I assume we’re not working anyone out for kicker or it would have started? Idk

I’m a little surprised at how drastically the sentiments on this team have changed after losing in a “Super Bowl preview” type game where a lot of stuff could have easily gone the other way. I’m glad the team has the bye but I’m annoyed we won’t see a win for another week.

God. Watching Tomlin in the first Hard Knocks episode.....

I would go to war for that dude lol
Meanwhile I want to gouge my own eyes out watching Harbs. Maybe it resonates with others but he feels so cringe

i don't think Harbs gets enough credit for the amazing lineage of coordinators (mostly defensive) and consistently replaced with studs + future great coaches

It's truly nuts how many defensive coordinators started in Baltimore

From hard knocks, he's annoying in episode one but I'm dying to see the energy post beating shitsburgh

All these other coaches are preaching to fuck up the guy across from you. I hope when we see positional coaches in a more Ravens-centric episode we see some of that energy. I remember some coach saying "if 99 comes in that A-gap, FUCK HIM UP" and I smiled.

Harbs is a stubborn dude. Although I give him a pass on this one since options are limited : https://www.instagram.com/share/_jxTpTkJv

he's also made a lot of idiotic hires that he refuses to let go until it’s too late. Plus he also interviewed and passed on Shannahan probably because he knew his ass would get replaced by him

lol I don't think anybody was worried about getting replaced by Shanahan in 2014. He had just been fired from an offense that wasn't particularly special in Washington (after the RGIII debacle) and his track record as a coach wasn't overly spectacular at that point.

I know he does. I'm just saying you're assessing Kyle Shanahan today as if he was being assessed the same in 2014. He wasn't. Shanahan had to bounce around and coach a good large number of offenses before he got a HC gig. And if you asked a 49er fan, they'd trade us Shanahan for Harbs today.

That’s because they’re fucking idiots. I would know, living close to SF

Shanahan was pretty young at the time and Harbaugh at that time was more willing to go with older coaches with more experience which is why Gary Kubiak was hired instead. Got to give Harbaugh credit though cause he's has definitely evolved with giving younger coordinators a chance . There were fans saying for years that he would never hire younger coordinators because that coordinator would be a threat to his job but lately he has definitely been more vast or should I say more opened minded with his hires not just at a coordinator level but at a position coach level as well. Not sure why fans thought he felt insecure about hiring younger coordinators any way especially when he was more willing to hire coordinators on the offensive side that were former head coaches but it is what it is I guess.

Well, that's not exactly how it would have worked out...

If Kubiak had supplanted Harbs, instead of retiring or whatever it was, he would have returned for 2015 and then hopefully Shanahan would have stepped in after.

Jesus man you and Tank cannot let go of the past. Harbaugh has made more awful hires than good and he hangs onto them for far too long

lol why would Kubiak supplant Harbaugh? If the offense is good, that means the team is likely good, which means Harbaugh isn't getting fired. The only way he leaves is voluntarily.
If the offense sucks, why would you hire the OC to be the HC when his unit sucked?

Don't think fans have really thought through this whole "a young coach is a threat to the HC" thing.

Also, why would you think Shanahan would be the OC if Kubiak was the HC in 2015? Kubiak left for a HC gig in 2015, and Kyle wasn't his OC. Kyle was the OC of a completely different team.

I agree with the "insecurity" thing. That's not real, and there's no basis for thinking its real.

I don't think fans have thought through this process.

In order for a young, good OC (or DC) to supplant an existing HC on the same team, essentially what has to happen is the unit they coach needs to be awesome AND the team needs to suck so badly that the Owner wants a HC change.
If you have a good young coordinator, and his unit is doing well, and the team is winning, the HC isn't getting fired. Obviously there's no reason to fire him, because the team is winning, and he was the one that hired the coordinator in the first place (and yes, John hired Kubiak... it wasn't Steve, and it never was Steve).
