Next Up: Bye Week

I have no confidence in us beating the Steelers. With Lamar as the starter, we're 3 - 9. They have our number. smh.

...and them facing us with the opportunity to beat us in our own house and shut off the Division, I have even less confidence in us winning.
TBF they are the better team. Very few position groups where we are better. I’d give us QB and TE. Steelers dominate in the trenches which is key

One thing the Ravens will hopefully figure out how to plan around is that...

The Ravens haven't won a game where Lamar's passer rating is under 114.

I know some smart ass is going to come in and say that Lamar playing well probably means the Ravens will win, but that isn't my point.

I have lamented several times this season that the Ravens don't have other players consistently stepping up if Lamar isn't having his best games.

They don't have players who take over the way Lamar does. Just a very Lamar-centric team through and through.
But I think we know why this is the case. Or at least I have a theory that you may disagree with.

I think our teams coaching on offense is so unbelievably poor that the entire outcome is predicated on Lamar being the best player in the league. And nearly every week he is. But you can see, almost all of our chunk plays are backyard ball. Any time we play anyone of any quality, Lamar is running for his life.

The point is, if Lamar needs help (every QB does against good teams) he's not gonna get it. Because it's not there to give. Then he only has a 100 rating game instead of 124 and we lose.

No news to report Monday about anything? Guess the team is still on the BYE with practice tomorrow I assume.
Getting that good rest to make a push

I think Monken is certainly better than Roman. And the run game has clearly not suffered, despite everyone suggesting it would without Roman. Yeah, they're not going for 200 yards per game, but they're still a strong running team off of the back of Lamar while Roman is doing meh in LA.

One theory I have when it comes to offensive coaches (and I saw discussion about Kyle Shanahan) is that the Ravens don't want to necessarily hire the likely one and done hire. They don't want discontinuity every year because the OC leaves to be the new HC. They want stability. Someone like Monken isn't the brilliant, offensive genius in the vein of a McVay, Shanahan, McDaniels, etc. and he's a bit older, so he isn't likely to be snapped up quickly. I think the Ravens are content to have someone who is good and offers stability, even if it means they aren't getting the best and brightest mind.

It could be. But all I can tell you is the rushing production you see post Roman is probably just what you get as a baseline with Lamar at QB. People have to play him differently and the run game benefits.

There's just so few examples of guys being schemed open in the pass game. All of the stuff to get Lamar in rhythm is weird cutesy shit to Zay behind the LOS. Why can't we run a slant? Why can't we use pick plays like everyone else? And on the off time we do, we usually get penalized because we aren't good at it. Why do we have to beg for play action? Why do we consistently call roll out to one side plays in high importance situations? Why is the QB sneak so poorly executed by us? Idk, all I see is every week no one is open and Lamar runs around until they get open and we usually win.

It hasn't felt like a real team in awhile. Just Lamar. It even felt that way when the defense was really good. Since the defense has been more average it's REALLY felt like the team is just Lamar go do something.

Just going to assume we'll let John Parker Romo sign elsewhere, watch him kick with 100% accuracy somewhere else while we continue watching Tucker struggle.
JPR just signed with the Patriots lol. Fuck my life. Tucker better get his shit together quickly

I wouldn't say their O Line is better than ours. It's pretty even.
They have a better #1 WR but we have more depth in the group.
Our Rbs are much better.

Then on defense, our DBs and Linebackers are more talented, although the defnsive coaching would have you believing otherwise.

And I think that's the main difference between us and Pittsburgh. They are much, much better coached than us, even though we've got more overall talent.

I think your theory is likely accurate but I would like to think they’re a smart organization and understand the way around that is to hire the bright mind as HC. Its worked for KC, LA, and GB to a lesser extent.

I think Flowers is better than Pickens, we need to get Flowers going again

Did we even try out any kickers? To not bring someone in is negligence to say the least.
There's no kickers out there. Also Tucker has missed 2 xps this season (which is completely league average) and still doesn't miss under 40, and is pretty solid up until 45.

Even with Tucker being bad, there's only about 15 kickers you could say those statements about and they are all locked up.

We've been spoiled for a decade that people are unaware of how terrible the average kicker is. We just can't keep sending Tucker out for anything over 50 and must play the 4th down and punts around the 35. there's no fix just a strategy change
