A bunch of hype around a load of EDGE guys in this class.

Abdul Carter leads the way as an athletic freak show

Other names with buzz:
Mykel Williams
Shemar Stewart
Nic Scourton
Jalon Walker
Mike Green
Landon Jackson
James Pearce Jr
Jack Sawyer
JT Tuimoloau

KVN is a year older.
Oweh's not a superstar rusher and might not be part of the future.
Ojabo's not shown anything.
Isaac's a rookie who's been on the shelf all year.
Tavius Robinson doesn't project to be a dominant pass rusher but does at least look like he's going to be a good part of the rotation in the short-term.

The cupboard's pretty bare at this position.

Kyle kennard and mike green have caught my eye so far, don’t know where they might go tho

mike green i reckon is going fairly high - reckon he'll be long gone by the time we pick in R1

kennard's explosive, violent and long but he looks so stiff to me - and i think his processing in the run game looks like a problem

I could see green flying up consensus boards post combine, looks like he’s gonna test really strong, unfortunate.

What are your thoughts on the 2 edges from Ohio state? I keep seeing round 2 grades and I just don’t agree, they both look like day 3 rotational run stuffers to me

i think green should be flying up consensus boards already
he would be a slam dunk if he fell to us but i doubt it

i agree with you on the ohio state guys - probably like sawyer over JT - they're both similar kinds of players tbh - unspectacular athletes who are happy doing the dirty work

would probably be fine with sawyer in the 3rd round but i also wouldnt expect him to come in and ever develop into a high quality pass rusher - sawyer has some qualities that make him seem like a pretty safe pick which might get him taken in the 3rd round but the ceiling is pretty low for him

JT has more power and does some lunch pail type stuff that may make him stick as well - JT has a standout trait with his heavy hands but also doesnt really offer a ton in terms of down to down playmaking

ive got a 3 on sawyer right now and a late 3/early 4 on JT - would probably be disappointed though if we actually drafted either of them on day 2

definitely not 2nd rounders though

I really like Mike Green. Not a huge fan of Pearce. Sawyer is OK, I like him better than JT. Mike Green is easily my favorite

I just want Dawgs at this position. People who can win their 1v1s and DCs gotta gameplan for.

Is that too much to ask? :(

Seriously. Every team in our division has that guy at pass-rusher except us. We can only get so far with the lack of forced TOs in the playoffs. Solid defense is almost not gonna cut it anymore.

Mike Green seems to be the talk of the town. Measurable's seem to check out too at the senior bowl but I don’t see how he falls anywhere near us.

Anyone watch Nic Scourton yet?

yeah he's so inconsistent but the traits are off the charts and he's got a really good baseline as a run defender
im generally always a little wary of prospects who have the spin move as a calling card in college - doesnt translate super effectively to the NFL

however he's so toolsy, he's one of the youngest players in the draft class and he gives you a solid starting point as an edge setter

preliminarily i've got a high 2 on him but that could definitely swing up (or down) depending on when i go back around to watching more tape (and the rest of the process too)

what dont you like about pearce?
I worry when I watch him he may become another Oweh. I see someone with a lot of athleticism but also someone who is still a bit raw and lacks some big play awareness. I've watched situations where he could have had a big play like force a fumble or take a bad angle that led to him getting washed out of the play. I see him as someone who could develop into that guy, but I do worry he may not realize it as I think it will depend a lot on his coaching. I'm not as sold on our OLB coach to get him there either. He has some good moves, so he isn't raw there, but I think he may get abused a bit at the NFL if he is too reliant on athleticism like I saw in college

I also don't see what I would hope to see in finishing plays with his tackling. His tackling is just OK, I would like to see more ferocity. He sometimes misses on guys and I've seen him have some struggles with athletic QB.

i see a lot more advanced rush technique from pearce's college tape than oweh's

i dont see that many similarities tbh

He for sure is more advanced, and I can't think of a better comp atm, but he strikes me as someone who needs more development (to be expected) but the bigger concern I have with him are the angles, not capitalizing on some mistakes, and his tackling. I want to see him do better there, and I don't trust our OLB coach to get him there, to be honest. Who knows, maybe Chuck Smith or Matt Robinson can do wonders with him, but I feel he could end up not realizing his potential or taking a long time to do it.

i mean chuck smith is vaunted as "dr rush" - he's managed to help turn oweh into a 10 sack guy and helped revitalise KVN's career and clowney's the year before... mike macdonald's not here anymore and these guys are more productive than other with probably mediocre talent on the defence

if we're going to assume that no one will develop under our coaches then we might as well trade all our picks to get as high in the 1st round as possible every year to try and get ready to go guys

there's also basically no EDGE guy in the class that's not a "risk"... even abdul carter has risk attached to him and some development required to become the player that his prospect profile says he could become

That's fine, we can disagree on my opinion of Pearce. I just am not fond of him for the reasons I said and don't like him as much. I wouldn't be mad if we drafted him, just not as interested in him as I am Green. I do think Green will be gone, but I haven't spent a lot of time beyond that.

I've also watched a LOT of Tennessee this year. Like I watched all their games.

In the midst of looking up Tucker things, Ben Allbright has a note in his mentions about Mike Green having an off the field concern, so something to watch.

RaineV1

Ravens Ring of Honor
David Walker and Jeffrey Bassa are a couple edge guys past the top tier ones that look really promising.
