2025 EDGE Thread

The two edge guys from Ole Miss are intriguing, Princely Umanmielen and Jared Ivy.

Princely has incredible athleticism, a nasty attitude, and is relentless. He just needs his technique polished up a bit.

Ivy is massive (6'6", 285), but carries it extremely well. Plays with great power, has more bend than you'd expect from his size, and is really good at knowing where the ball will go. More of a chess piece than a pure edge, and letting you put him on tackles or guards for the best matchups.

just did a bit of ivey study
think he might be better off adding some weight and moving inside full-time - certainly projects to have the anchor to hold up vs double teams

ive got a lot of EDGEs stacked together at the moment and I'm having a hard time cementing my feelings on them especially the guys ive got in the early day 2 range

the combine is gonna be pretty important for breaking some of these ties to get some more concrete athletic data

really interested to see the testing times of james pearce, princely umanmielen, donovan ezeiruaku, josaiah stewart, nic scourton
want to see what arm length pearce and scourton come in with

jack sawyer could make himself some money if he tests well too

i want to see what weight shemar stewart and mykel williams come in at, and i think if they don't have elite testing performances you will see them drop down the boards for a lot of people

want to see how landon jackson and kyle kennard weigh in as well
Big fan of ezeiruaku and josaiah Stewart, think ezeiruaku ends up a first rounder

i think so, as long as he tests well

measuring in with 34 inch arms at the senior bowl certainly helped him and umanmielen to solidify their stock

i think if stewart were 2 inches taller, he'd be thought about as a top 3 edge in the class

mykel williams is so frustrating to evaluate - toolsy but 2024 is so lacking in production and good tape - DJ said he was playing hurt and i agree his 2023 tape is much better but i still don't see why there's basically a consensus top 20 pick here...he's got some cool traits with the length, power and athleticism but it's not like he's travon walker who was actually freakishly powerful, long, athletic and flexible...

williams has a really stiff looking lower half and not much ankle flexion and on top of that seems to have very little in the way of pass rush moves etc.

seeing some people talk about him in the top 10 seems wild to me - feel like im watching completely different film to them

on the other hand though, ive completely come around on shemar stewart by comparison - at least when i watch shemar stewart i see the freaky traits everyone's talking about, some pass rush moves, the flexibility despite being huge - with stewart it's more the lack of production and consistency that's concerning but at least i see the traits and the reps are there on film - stewart's actually much more similar to the travon walker profile than williams

and then the freaky size guy that im surprised has had not much pop in draft circles is Jordan Burch - no idea why this guy isn't in similar conversations as some of these other guys - not sure where i'll ultimately land on him but after going through a bunch of guys ive not been convinced by, he was a breath of fresh air

there's so much smoke around the mike green off-field stuff

no one's saying anything properly which makes it hard to confirm anything or even get any details on what's supposed to have happened

but the rumours are that the off-field concern is related to sexual assault (potentially even multiple SA accusations) which makes me think mike green's off the board regardless of if he's available at 27, especially in light of the justin tucker allegations and investigations

Yeah I've seen the same rumors - apparently the reason he left Virginia.

At this point I hope we just trade for Maxx and load up on younger defensive linemen throughout the draft

I don’t even see a first rounder when I watch Mikel williams, don’t see it at all.

Haven’t come around on Stewart

Been very high on Burch for a while, definitely needs more buzz, mid 2nd kinda guy with a crazy high ceiling

That ain’t gonna happen. I think we’re gonna keep Stanley and grab a budget edge and keep kicking the can, and go for interior rush in this draft. I just don’t see a real quality edge rusher reaching us and frankly I think this edge class is super overrated

Then I guess I’ll settle for Khalil lol

idk that the edge group are overrated as much as they were overly hyped before the offseason started

and i definitely see a world where EDGE is BPA at 27

I actually think Edge is the most likely BPA. Either edge, DL, or possibly S due to the position being overlooked.

Street are saying James Pearce is a crashout waiting to happen. Anger issues.

Draft this man. We need more thugs

i want thugs
not guys who are gonna crashout

i want a psycho - not a guy who just loses his cool

there have been questions about pearce's motivation and he's not acing the testing so far (obviously it's early) - but that's what the combine interviews etc. are for - to figure out his whole deal

Pearce went and aced the 10 and the 40 - was flying

shemar stewart is actually just crazy - that 267lbs looks great on him too

When we interview players, the only question that should be asked of pass rushers.... "Can you create turnovers and get sacks?" If Yes, this interview continues. If no, this interview is done. Same with OL & DL, if they aren't strong enough, I don't want them.
