The Running Game, the Turnovers, and the Same Ol’ Ravens

It wouldn't even be a debate if Mark wasn't here, which is why I tend to lean that they'll get something done... probably at the expense of Mark.

2026 is a rough free agent year though with a bunch of almost there but not quite stars due for deals - Likely, Oweh, and Jones in particular. KVN, Henry, and Mark as the vets that I'd guess are sent out to greener pastures in order to try to keep the younger talent.

might have to add Faalele to the list of guys we care about leaving in 2026 in a year's time

Dallas Goedert signed his 4 yr/57m backloaded contract while Ertz was still with the Eagles. So the Ravens absolutely can pull something off like that. Andrews restructures into something like 3 yr/30m with the last year ('27) being a void and minimal cap hit. Likely signs ~5 yr/70m with the cap hits escalating in the 3rd-5th years. Andrews is paid like the #1 TE for 2 more years and then its Likely. You can also extend Kolar cheap after '25. End result the best TE room in the league is locked in for 5 yrs and you're paying like 12-15m/yr for it.

Something like that, you get the picture.
Yeah so there's a couple problems with this:
1. Goedert's contract came before the Eagles signed either of their two expensive WRs.
2. While EDC is much more aggressive with the cap than Ozzie was, I don't see EDC doing max void years like Philly does.
3. 5 for 70, in my opinion, would be a massive, massive overpay. I don't think Likely would get anything in the stratosphere of that on the open market, and he would need to take a HUGE step forward in terms of output, efficiency, and target share to warrant that level of contract. I think, today, its something closer to the 3/30 range of like a Hunter Henry type.
4. Right around the time you'll decide to pay Likely is about the same time you'll decide to pay Flowers, and Flowers is obviously significantly more valuable and significantly more expensive.
5. I'm not certain Andrews would take a $4M AAV paycut based on a bad performance in one playoff game. Either he won't get extended at all and leave, or I think he'll be extended at something closer to like 2/25 or closer to 2/30. Just lighter on the guaranteed $.

I like Likely, but I don't think finding a player like him in day 2 or day 3 of the draft is super difficult.

Likely shows just enough promise that I wouldn't be happy replacing him in this draft

I'd prefer not to either. But if somebody on the free market is going to offer him $12M+ a year, and I'm EDC, I'm giggling like a school girl while I envision the mid-round comp pick I'm getting for that.

Fuck that comp pick. Give me Likely over some rookie

LOL ya'll out here bitching about Andrews @ an $11M cap hit. I wouldn't be able to wait to slurp the tears off ya'll bitching about Likely's cap hit in year 4 of a 5/70 deal. You'll have forgotten about Marcus Williams long by then.

And the irony is you don't want the pick in the rounds that you landed both of the TEs to begin with.

Just like when you told us we would never trade for Roquan?

Unless we find a tight end that can replicate likely, we are gonna resign him. He will for sure get paid in the open market. I wouldnt even let him go for first pick in 4th rnd.

Yup. Just like when I told you we weren't trading for Hopkins. How many catches for Ravens he have this year? Or any year?
How many tackles has Roquan had for the Ravens since you were so adamant we weren’t going to trade for him?

I think if you look at the current 2026 FA class, which is subject to change, AND add in the sheer volume of extensions we're going to want to hand out in the next 12 months, Likely isn't even in the top 5 of players that are a priority. And I'd argue he's further down the last than that.

I think the ability to re-sign him will likely be predicated on either a) him having a massive year next year, which I personally don't see based on passing volume alone, b) us getting him for a significantly discounted price before he hits FA, or c) him hitting the market and the market not valuing him as much as fans do (which happens all the time), and he's retained.

I think fans are in for a rude awakening at the quantity of players that walk out the door in the next 24 months. Both high and low end. And that's made gigantically harder if we can't extend Lamar's contract before the 2026 offseason FA period.

AND I'll say this definitively... if we extend Andrews this offseason AND we re-sign Stanley, I think the prospects of retaining Likely in 2026 go to a very, very, very small %.

About as many catches as Hopkins has had for other teams.
I honestly don’t remember you and I discussing a trade for Hopkins, but even a broken clock is right twice a day. Take accountability.

I imagine there's a large number of things that you proposed, asked for, or said would happen that never materalized into anything. You and many others were riding that Hopkins train as long as you could. Pretty sure you were slurping, and still are, Crosby for half the year also, because in the NFL, all the bad teams just trade away all their good players every year. It's like the NBA, except Madden-style.
Until its not.

My accountability is identical to yours. I'll let you decide how much or how little that is.

That’s a whole lotta yap, even for you.

After our loss, I could care less about any of these teams this Sunday. Not sure I will even watch them. Probably will, but I really don’t get excited about who wins or loses. Just don’t ever want the Colts to win, because I still hold a grudge there, but they suck now.
