2025 Offseason Thread

I know I'm the "dramatic" guy but anybody finally willing to accept my premise for the last 5 years?

QB
OL
DL

In that order. I've said over and over again that EDC likes to play money ball and zig when others zag. Until he puts an elite OL and DL around Lamar we aren’t going to win.

PS: I'm already going to pre-respond to "the well he signed Madabuike, we had lots of sacks stuff."

That's only half of the lines needed to be elite and even on just that side, that was nowhere close to an elite unit.

This is probably the least dramatic thing you've said on here

I've been saying this for nearly 5 years and there's typically a response of either

1) Our units were good enough
2) EDC is a moneyball genius and there's multiple ways to win a SB.

I just always disagree with both

I think most people here have also been touting for years that building the trenches is the way to go - OL for sure.

Eric really likes "redoing" entire units in an offseason. We've really not seen that work out well. We've also seen him ignore OL or DL for an entire season. I'm an idiot that doesn't know anything, but in my nonexpert opinion, you just can't do those things and win a SB.

I'm probably in the minority of those who thinks that redoing the OL last year was a smart move. It felt like we were a piece short still obviously, but running it back with the old guys wasn't go to help us either. Next year feels like the year to add that final piece (and re-sign Stanley) and let them eat.

Still think a premiere pass pushing talent would be the thing that makes most sense for us to morph into an elite team. hopefully EDC and Co. are watching the Eagles tonight - Jalen Carter is the engine that makes that whole operation work.

You got it!

Its not that what he did wasn't smart. It was but it was risky as fuck and not enough. It wasn't enough with Roger being borderline elite. Like if Roger was a normal rookie it would've been a complete disaster. If Ronnie got hurt (high likelihood) it would've been a total disaster. We got lucky in both cases and it still wasn't enough.

They wanted to do more, for what it's worth. They wanted Dominick Puni where they ended up with Adisa Isaac instead.

Big criticism there of course is not going up to get the guy you want. A patient approach isn't always wrong, but it isn't always right either.

I was going to comment this after reading the first half of what you said.

The 49ers traded a fourth round pick to get Puni. I'd gladly trade Walker or Tampa for Puni.

And it isn't like the Eagles wouldn't play ball with the Ravens- the Eagles and Ravens have a great relationship as far as teams go.

The Ravens feel scared of trading aggressively after the Boller trade, but at some point you have to say that fifth round pick isn't going to do much for you and just pull the trigger for the guy you want.

Our OL was good this year - it is maybe 1 real dude at LG away from being an elite unit

our DL (including EDGE) requires significant work for sure

would not be surprised if we finished day 2 with our first picks being 3 of these 4 positions: EDGE, DL, OG, WR

last year we understood that we needed to get cheaper and younger on the OL - it was a soft rebuild and the unit vastly outperformed what we should have expected, the fact that this team was that good with all the pieces and coaching infrastructure we lost on defence and at OL is crazy

I have been saying for a bit along with others like yourself this team needs a threat at Edge and some more at DL. Both spots require attention. Another WR would be wise to keep the offensive momentum. LG speaks for itself

Not that Eric drafts based on what he saw in the Super Bowl, but the trenches are where it’s won and lost, always, and this is a trench draft.

I think we’re gonna see 2 of our first 3 picks on the trenches, if not all 3. The board is likely to fall that way, when there’s a million good players across both lines you’re just more likely to see one be the BPA
