2025 Offseason Thread

I'm not going to claim to know their thoughts on every single K, but I did like a couple of options that are a little less rangy but a little more consistent - Nick Folk who just came off the board and Eddy Pineiro who is still available.

But the overall thought coming from the organization is that the available veteran options weren't or aren't good.

Make no mistake... they aren't thrilled about how the Tucker stuff played out. They'd rather have him kicking here this year.

Brade and Kane are both stepping up like they had hoped so far and they want them to run with it. They also genuinely believe Ar'Darius is in a position to make a late season return, and don't want to block him if he gets there, so they may opt to rotate guys on and off the PS for most of the season.

- ILB back end has been pretty bland. They were hoping for some pop from the UDFAs but Higgins has been quiet. Martin has been better but still not enough to really push anyone yet.

- Unless it goes completely haywire, expect Loop to be kicking this season and for there to be some struggles. They don't believe there's a better option out there, so they'd rather go with the youth and insane leg strength and keep working with him.

It does feel like we're due for some roster shuffling here in the coming days as well. Obviously light at TE and seemingly light at RB with the UDFA missing a couple of practices in a row. Need someone to take preseason snaps and I'd rather it not be anyone of importance. Meanwhile, we have 12 WR and 17 OL rostered which is insane.

Honestly, Loop is a bit concerning and I am expecting an up and down run of it with him kicking. With that said, I'm also concerned with Stout. Any insight into that situation? I think Stout is in his 4th year now. I don't really know what we are thinking but I don't see someone who is lighting it up for us.

I'm imparting my opinion here, but I think there'd be P competition if there wasn't a K competition. They know there are some consistency issues with the actual punting part of his job, but he's as clean as it gets on the FG operation part and I don't think they wanted to put a young K in that kind of situation.

I don't disagree. I'd have gone vet over Hoyland at the time, and Folk would have been my top choice. At the same time, he's 40 and has never had the strongest leg in the world.

Time will tell if the choice was good or bad. There's almost always a better choice with the benefit of hindsight.

You have a totally measured take that frankly I agree with. If I wanted to be petty, I'd say that loops ridiculous miss in college should've been evidence enough that something in the fundamentals is sufficiently wrong that will take some amount of time to fix. Therefore although he's possibly draftable because of the leg strength, he's ill suited to start in 2025.

You just don't develop kickers without having them kick for you, unfortunately. You can't roster multiple for an entire season and you can't keep them on a PS because they'll get poached as soon as there's an injury. It's a damned if you do, damned if you don't thing.

Doesn't help that it's such a volatile position too. I mean, back in the day, no one thought Roberto Aguayo was worth a 2nd mind you... but everyone did think he was the best in the draft. And then he kicked a whole 1 year. You just don't know. It's true for every position but K is so much more transparent.
