The AJ Green, the Joe Flacco, and the Defense- Week 2 Edition

Remember guys, we also lost the Bengals in 2014 too. Head to toe this is a more talented roster, and well it'd be a good offensive line if we STARTED BROWN.

We just need CJ and Stanley to get healthy and work out the kinks in the run game.

Sure, we're only 2 games into the new season (that goes without saying) but I'll let all of you cats spin this b.s. we just saw against the Bengals the way that you want to but my reality is that the Ravens were TRASH! Pure trash tonigh! It's just that simple! Typical of their game play after a major win or a blowout.

They are STILL the same inconsistent team that stals and struggles offensively and that can't get any defensive QB pressure to burst grapes. After all the drafting, training and mini camps, OTA's, release, trades, waivers, roster cuts and preseason games, we're STILL witnessing the same old b.s. from this team of seasons past! Regardless of who is on the roster!

I'M SICK OF IT!!!

GO RAVENS!!!
I agree but atleast our wrs and shit were actually getting open.. qb just couldnt make accurate throws. Like you say its the same shit just different game. We really look like the worst team in the div that game

All of those teams from years past have no bearing on this years team 'whatsoever IMO. This was a different team back in 2014 (4 years ago) then it is now. You "say"this is the more talented roster as well as others BUT none of that seems to translate on the field in a consistent manner. Why is that?

Patience is all I'll say. Last year's team would've gotten blown out and I'd be panicking to hell. This L was predictable it followed all the trends of us.. From when we were good.

One week is gone. The past is the past. Let's move forward. Hopefully the Ravens can do that too

FWIW, if this was a bad game for the offense, then I'll take it. Think about the last two years. When Flacco had a bad game, it was a bad game by any standards. This game he threw for over 350 yards and had some really impressive throws and plays. It's a really disappointing loss but I think the offense will be fine this year. Just need to get the run game going.
and stay healthy

We all know who beats who in the North.

9-2 since 2013; Steelers against the Bengals.

8-3 since 2013; Bengals against the Ravens.

6-5 since 2013; Ravens against the Steelers.

25-5-1; The AFC North against the Browns, since 2013.

I'm so disappointed, mainly because nothing fucking changes. One injury and we disintegrate on D, along side the fact that we're not able to at least slow down Green after all these years.
Flacco all over the place, bad throws, lucky throws, good throws, bad decisions.
Watching us play is hard fucking work.

I think that it's important to note that even with the inconsistencies on offense... The two most important takeaways from this loss are this.

1. This offense is way better than last season's despite having a shit oline. Flacco, did not play well as a whole, but he didn't totally shit the bed either. Say what you will, he tried to get us back into the game and if not for the oline ruining the second half for him. We would've probably come back and won this game. Now, the Oline has two massive liabilities on it. Hurst needs to be benched immediately, he should've never started, the reason they gave was utter bullshit too. Per Ronnie Stanley himself, he's fine. I think he should be good to go. Yanda still needs to knock the rust off, but looked good otherwise. Lewis should get better with more experience, but methinks he's just mediocre.. Told you so. Leaving Skura and Hurst. Well, we bench Hurst that should help open up a running game. Collins himself looks fine, just no line. Receivers look good, hell Andrews looks good. Once good Hurst comes back, I cannot wait. Seriously, you make that one minor adjustment and I think the line becomes adaquate. We do need to find a C though. And I want us addressing nothing but the offensive line next draft.
2. Personally.. I think the defense will be just fine. Say what you will about the Bengals. They lack an oline, but they called a good game, and when you call a good game with the sheer amount of fire power you have, and with a red hot Andy Dalton, well, it's a miracle we were in a position to win the game at all. I liked what I saw from Martindale out of it. He showed an ability to adjust at halftime that Pees NEVER had. Even Harbaugh is saying the CJ injury isn't that serious. So I'm not too worried about that. 10 days, if he's good enough to play, his presence alone is like having another coach on the field. I know that people are going to needlessly complain "nothing's change, one guy goes down".. The QB of the defense went down. I actually understand why that we would fall apart as hard as we did. Mosley is one of the smartest players in the game. Without him, the front seven looked lost, and it took us giving the mic to weddle for the bounce back. Which shouldn't surprise anyone. Weddle is also like having a coach on the field. People are going to give Tavon Young in particular a hard time. He's a good player, a really good player, AJ Green is fucking unguarable. Even Jimmy would have his hands full there. We needed to give him more safety attention there. I suspect that this is more of a growing pain from Wink. Because we played it a lot better in the second half. Unlike Pees, I think Wink can learn from his mistakes and grow. The Bengals schemed the defense perfectly and a lot of their big plays were plays the offense just won. A bad or mediocre team wouldn't have adjusted at all. We did.

This is a loss, but this feels different than any of the losses last year. This is a game where we only played poorly for one quarter. There was a lot of good with this loss, as opposed to past years where we would just blow it at the end. Hopefully, we can learn from it, because if we do, this team is seriously talented. 2017 and 2016, we would've been blown out. I think we got a little cocky post the bills game and it kind of showed. Hopefully this serves as the slice of humble pie.

It's honestly reminiscent of the good Harbaugh teams from 2008-2012. We'd win week one in an impressive fashion, and then lose week 2 to an opponent we should clearly beat, but we either got cocky, or just had an off week. I personally think we are going to be fine.

Man I honestly wish we gave the mic to Weddle the moment C.J went out. I recall that Weddle had the mic before when Mosley would go down to injury, I just wish we made the decision to give it to Weddle.

I’m getting tired of the Bengals narrative. We have one player that can slow the pace of AJ Green, and that’s Jimmy, who seems to be suspsended or injured every time we play the Bengals.

That being said, I like the moxie showed by them tonight. Someone mentioned this team of a year ago or two years ago, wouldn’t have made the comeback. Considering, we lost the center of the defense.

The 3 Big takeaways for me;
1). O-Line- Skura, Hurst, and Stanley all struggled. I’m not so sure Brown can be worse than Hurst at this point.

2). Run game- goes hand in hand with the o-line. Flacco was getting harassed all night. I said before I didn’t wanna see him putting up Andrew Luck- like attempts in passing, but we saw 50+, which is understandable given the deficit, but they have to start creating lanes for the backs.

3). I’m really concerned about the safety position. TJ was being targeted and I’m not entirely sure about Weddle, I know that one AJ Green TD wouldn’t have happened with a great safety. Cut a bad angle.

It's 10 days so I really hope we get Brown to the starting lineup. I hope he's ready to fill in because Hurst sucks. The whole Skura thing also wasn't a good idea. I just really don't think the team should just place their bets on guys like Skura too often because more often then not it doesn't turn out so well. It wasn't all on him but there was a lot of penetration and guys getting to the backfield.

FWIW, Lewis didn't have a good game either. All around this was a really bad game from the OL. No one came to play and it was a massive let down.

Stanley really isn't living up to that #6 pick either. Two games in and he has not looked all that impressive. I'm going to see how he finishes this season off because I really hope he turns it around, we all know it's a different OL without him there so he's a valuable piece to this offense.

Honestly, we do that and we probably win this game handily. They only scored 6 points after that and the Bengals have ten kinds of firepower. That to me shows that the piss poor performance by the defense was an anomaly.

We as a fanbase get to be just horrible after a loss, myself included at times, but it doesn't feel like years previous where it'd be the "Same old shit". Offense looked ten times better than last year, and it didn't look bad as a whole from the middle of the second quarter on. It made mistakes, but those were coming. It's a new group with not much in game experience together. Something's different: This team has talent.

Thing is, to me it doesn't explain how we couldn't get a single sack all game. We did generate some pressure later on but it wasn't consistent enough at times.
The other thing that worried me was how gassed our DL looked. The Bengals ran on them with ease and that's a concern for me.

Offense looks wayyy better, I legit think this offense is a run game away from being a break out offense and a career year for Joe. If this was a bad game by Joe then I'll take it considering how his bad games the past two years have looked.

One thing I’m impressed with about this offense is Flacco is spreading the ball around. 3 of the 4 leading receivers were WIDE RECEIVERS and the 3 newest additions at that. Those same 3 scored tds last week. It looks like they have gained Flacco’s trust and that is very good news.

We looked good in many aspects that first game. Didn't think the running game could be evaluated that early. Though contemplated JoeJoe may have had the one good game a year he throws at us right out of the box against a weak team. However, thought with the new receivers we had made a quantum leap. I hoped so, but it wasn't to be. Buffalo is god awful. Why does JoeJoe always seem to have this "deer caught in the headlights" look on his face? Harbaugh had it too.

We were in the game late, but Cincy always seems to come out against us with blazing results and then go conservative, excepting first game vs them last year. Their hurryup killed us and they abandoned it second half and played to not give us cheap chances like they did end of first half.

Really thought about every big penalty went in our favor. We caught a slew of breaks but it wasn't enough.

So the "Bellweather Results" are we are not as good as we looked first game. Now the next Bellweather game is vs Denver at Home and whether we are as bad as we looked vs Cincy. I am not that impressed with Denver and think we can beat them, but am worried about their pass rush.

Humpf made some nice tackles. He really did, but the TD against him by AJ Green and the dropped pick on an overthrow, as well as other plays really indicate he needs to bulk up and play safety. Stanley was abused, granted by a great pass rush. The guys I've been worried about showed their weaknesses bigly this game. We really missed a healthy Jimmy Smith, though he's prolly gone next year too.

Don't see the QB on the horizon I covet for the Ravens, unless we can trade for Sam Darnold. (Which would be much more "expensive" than the initial plan to land him.). At this point, just wish we'd have invested in losing the last two seasons to win. Despite game 1 optimism, I don't think this team is going to bring us the Glory we deserve.
