Ravens Trade News: Marcus Peters, etc...

Some have worried this is a sign on Jimmy's ability to return. While it could be, I don't think it is a clear sign of that. There are many reasons it makes sense:

1 - it is an upgrade on existing personnel and an addition to an area that has recently been depleted - the secondary.
2 - it gives us an opportunity, that if Peters performs and feels like a fit with the team, it gives us options for next year. Sure - he'll be an FA, so he'll be available to anyone, but if he's successful and comfortable with us, we have the inside track. We can weigh his market value and Jimmy's and see which one makes more sense for us to pursue. The team may just be weary of Jimmy's injury history.
3 - If we don't chose to sign him, we'll get comped
4 - Young got beat out in camp by an undrafted FA Board, then after he tried to fill in for him when he was injured, we basically replaced him with guys off the street in Bynes and Fort. He clearly had no future with us.

As I have seen said - it is a low risk/high reward move. Exactly the kind of move we needed to make and I'm hoping we make one more in the same basic range - involving an upgrade over Wormley/Mack or Bynes/Fort.

I love this move. I really do. I'm not the biggest Marcus Peters fan but this is the very definition of a low risk high reward gamble. He's also a good #2 and he's had a bounce back year so far compared to 2018. I think his best years are ahead of him and we're going to have a seriously threatening CB core. I hope we can manage to bring in a pass rusher because that would upgrade the hell out of this defense.

This. Just happy we even took a shot on Ramsey offering a 1st round pick package for him. Goes to show you Decosta is willing to make big moves given the opportunity and is a little less conservative than Ozzie has been in the past.

Two 1st rounders plus a 4th is a steep price to pay for anyone, the Jags held out for a while but finally wised up and pulled the trigger.
I also think the Jags wanted to move him out of the Conference as well. That may have factored into this 3 team (kinda) deal.

me too, EDC was supposed to be incredibly active building up towards the trade deadline (albeit that was according to *** and we know most of the time he's wrong)

not sure what other route we go to find help but at this point the only place i see us targeting help is pass rusher (interior or edge) but not sure where we'd find that sort of help at this point
Send a late pick to the Falcons for Beasley. He might benefit from a change in scenery.

he might, but we might need to restructure a deal to make this happen, now that we have less space to work with. I'd rather have Leonard Williams though.

I was under the impression that Peters was moved out of KC and didn't garner a lot of trade capital, partly because of his attitude. I don't know that I've heard much about him lately on that front. It would appear on the surface that they wanted to move him in front of the Ramsey trade.

Yeah, I wonder how serious the attitude concerns must be... He was only traded in 2018. And with the Rams just having lost Talib, you'd think they would want to have two starting CBS of their caliber. But instead he's on his 3rd team in two years.

I still like the trade. Jalen cost too much and it's a position they need.

I was first alerted to the fact that the Ravens were involved in a trade. I couldn't help but wonder ... could it be Ramsey? I've said before I'd be shocked if we gave up the kind of haul JAX was looking for and that it didn't make sense to have 2 mega-high dollar CBs on the roster waiting to get paid.

When I saw the deal, I was relieved. I did not want to see us cough up a significant chunk of our future in trade for this year. At first I had to think about this some ... I know word had been that Peters had been coveted by our organization and he was quality guy, at least from what I knew.

I really feel like this is the level of horse trading we should be involved with and that we can fill some desperate needs without expending too much future capital, that's the way to go. I don't think there are any real blockbusters available involving pass rush so I think we look to pull a deal at about the same level as this one.
Exactly. And I hope we do as well with respect to the pass rush.

A 2 time pro bowler, 1 time all pro? I'll take it. One of the reasons his play fell off in LA is because the rams played mostly zone and Peters thrived in KC's mostly man coverage. I read somewhere that in 2018 the rams played zone more than any other team in the league. He likes to freelance a little so he gets burned on occasion, but he's still a playmaker with 24 interceptions since being drafted in 2015. That is eight more than any other player in the same time frame. As for his character, he had a few issues in KC but has been nothing but a saint in LA. I don't see this being an issue.

Who is out there that we can realistically get to help our pass rush? I would take Suggs back at this point

I read an article that seems to suggest that the zone scheme killing Peters is a myth.

It suggested that the rams played mostly man to start out the season last year, and that was where Peters was getting abused terribly, but that was also in part due to talib being out and Peters shadowing #1s, and also basically stated that Peters getting beaten so badly was part of the reason why they switched to a zone heavy scheme...

Sound familiar? Hopefully with a #1 corner and quality FS play Peters can man up once again

Lol awww sorry to rain on your parade pal. No where near "hyped" on Brown, he is a tackle machine, good defender and it most definitely would not hurt us to add more depth to our defense.
Then why is he unemployed currently? And no, its not because of trash talking a QB that beats you. You haven't seen players get cut for that.

Lack of performance is the issue.

He was a top 3 to 5 cb in KC and they played mostly man coverage schemes and yes, with Humphrey being the number 1 CB here and potentially shadowing the number 1 WR's he should do fine here.

Oh I know, just pointing out that some of the criticisms do have some truth to them and this may be a great move but he is far from a perfect prospect. I’m really excited about this move though

dear lord

the man has 25 picks since 2015 and 70 passes defended. What on earth is their to criticize? is he perfect? hell no.Is he in the All pro ballpark? YES HE IS.
Idk if this is aimed at me but I’m not criticizing the move lol, I LOVE it. But of course there’s gonna be a little concern when you make a cb who gave up a LOT of big plays last year your starter.

Shaquil barrett. His base salary this year is 5 mill. I think he'd be owed around 3 at this point. seems doable.
At the rate he’s playing the bucs would be asking for damn near a Khalil Mack level trade, he’s looking like a cornerstone for a young team that’s a qb and a few defensive pieces away from being a competitive squad. I don’t think they would wanna trade a young star pass rusher at this juncture
