Ravens Trade News: Marcus Peters, etc...

First off no brainer by EDC. This is an outstanding trade and if we really want our 5th back we just cut Bethel to regain our comp pick before the 10th week.

Using OTC cap numbers and prorating the 6 games we have lost 5,211,891 in cap for this year which is also the number of cap room we lose next year cuz of carryover but that would still leave us over 62 mil. We right now have 3,392,671 still on the books for this year. There's absolutely no reason we cant resign Peters and extend Humphrey who we may get a little cheaper than rate cuz we still have 2 yrs of control. With Tavon already signed this would lock up CB for quite a few years.

not sure we will cut him due to losing Elliott. Elliott was also one of our better players on special teams and Bethel is obviously a very good special teams player. I think at this point with the depth and even with Jimmy Smith coming back (hopefully) we end up keeping Bethel.

Really sucks about Elliot. I wanted to see more of him.

Close, but the $9.069M is divided by 17 weeks - players get paid on the Bye Week - so, it's $9.069M x 11/17ths, leaving the Ravens obligated to pay $5.868M for the rest of the season.

This is per Brian McFarland the salary cap guru.

McFarland has us somewhere in the neighborhood of ~$2M in cap space currently for 2019. That's practically nothing.

While I agree with the cap flexibility for 2020 and going forward, in 2019, we basically have none at this point. So if anybody thinks there are more trades to come for significant assets, I would start thinking again. We won't have the cap space to pay them, and there's very little ways we can generate more.

Any cap space we create at this point would be purely by restructuring existing contracts, since short of cutting somebody like Jimmy or Carr (which we obviously won't do), there's no significant cap savings to be had by releasing players mid-season.

The only players who are really viable options to do contract restructures (not paycuts mind you) are:
Jefferson: At this point you can probably only create about $2-3M in space if you were to turn his remaining salary for the year into a bonus, and that would push his 2020 cap number up to the $13-15M range. Not ideal for a player who won't play again this year and, realistically, you could be looking to move on from after 2019 anyway.
B. Williams: Could probably create $2-3M in space by restructuring him, but you've already done that once, and that would push his 20-21 cap hits up to the $16-17M range.

In short, outside of kicking the can down the road on some already bloated contracts, there really isn't much the Ravens can do at this point in terms of adding anymore even reasonable priced talent to their roster for 2019.

Will it be possible to sign him and Marlon?
That's exactly what I was thinking...I think the answer is yes, and was a corresponding move to test the waters with him with that in mind. The Ravens liked him coming out of the draft. I would not be shocked if he gets resigned and Marlon.

Does anyone have a list of names going for pass rush acquisitions? Names I like in order:
Derrick Wolfe
Yannick Ngakoue
Ryan Kerrigan
Leonard Williams
Michael Bennett

I’d love to have Yannick here. Isn’t he still on his rookie contract?

I'd be wary about derek wolfe. He's a shadow of the player he was even though he isn't that old. I like Kerrigan, he's consistent. Williams and Yannick have the most upside and are cheap. We basically have half our team and ex FO working with the Jets. Could probably get some good deals done with them

Of this group, only Ngakoue and Bennett are affordable. We don't have the cap space in 2019 to pay the other guys. I also don't really see why Jacksonville would trade Ngakoue, or why the Jets would trade Williams.

I also think Bennett is your typical 4-3 DE who wouldn't fit very well in the scheme we run.

The reason why i'd take kerrigan over Yannick is that the latter is an EDGE setting Liability . Kerrigan is simply a much better allround footballer

he becomes a fa at the end of the year and Jacksonville is pretty much up against the cap. In 2020 they have 5m available even after trading Ramsey. They could make some moves by restructuring or cutting Dareus.
