Lamar Jackson

OMG THIS!!!

I wanted to post this but looked first to see if someone else had. It is absolutely my favorite clip from the Wired.

This feels like another one of those pivotal Lamar moments. The emotion on his face as he pounds his chest “my bad” man total accountability to his team. And he’s teammates response to show solidarity is a thing of beauty.

That’s the kind of thing that propels him and will propel this team. I don’t think you are going to see a fumble from him in the open field again anytime soon.
And even when the fumble happened, I wasn't even mad with Lamar. I honestly was like, "Wow. Damn nice play by the defender." Luckily, we held them to 3 points off that TO and those would be the last points they scored

Like what he did last season, his ability to bounce back off a turnover should not be understated. I think we ended up chewing out the 6-7 mins on a 12 play, 39-yd drive IIRC to seal the deal with Tucker's game.

Honestly I was mad at Andrews for letting Harris get off that block. He sustains and that’s touchdown.

So I was watching one of the national news shows this morning and they were discussing Tim Ryan’s comment about Lamar. Listening to it in context it’s obvious the guy intended no malice, bigotry or anything negative. Maybe a poor choice of words given the hyper sensitivity these days, but nothing like some are portraying.

Here’s some relevant comments from Richard Sherman.

Yeah, it wasn’t an instance where LJ was carelessly flailing the ball around in one hand, just a great play by the defender. Guessing it will make Lamar more aware of future attempts to strip.

There are definitely racial stereotypes still affecting people’s views of QBs, I spent the whole offseason blasting tf out of people who were bashing Lamar to the point that they might as well have come out and say they didn’t want a black qb replacing their golden boy Flacco, because really like 75% of ravens should’ve just come out and said exactly that because obviously that’s what they were thinking.

But talking about the subconscious things, it was a comment about skin color, it’s not like it’s some subconscious prejudice or bias to acknowledge that a black persons skin is darker than a white persons. I just don’t think this situation is any deeper than an idiot with no filter saying something idiotic, not about uncovering deeper racial problems in people’s subconscious. Leave that for the people who boycott the nfl because they’re not ok with prominent black athletes protesting injustices to minorities, or the people who literally didn’t want Lamar to start because he’s black, those are the issues worth diving deeper, this guy needs to just be fired and ridiculed for being an asshole.

The stark reality is that in the minds of racist white people; their remaining "golden calf" position in the NFL is the QB position. For years, they (white racists and bigots) have fed the NFL and the public with their unfounded racial ideologies and stereotypes (that are deeply rooted in the Peculiar Institution of Slavery here in America) that a black man couldn't play the QB position because he wasn't smart or intelligent enough. Then along comes a black man, a QB no less, by the name of Doug Williams who just shatters that foolish notion by throwing multiple TD's in a SuperBowl and winning it with the Redskins.

As a result, over the years; the door has been kicked wide open for more black QB's to come through and take the helm of an NFL franchise. But not only black QB's that are intelligent but also those that possess tremendous and multiple athletic abilities and skills that white America's prototypical, 6'6 stand in the pocket and throw white boys don't possess (i.e. speed, quickness, agility, elusiveness, escapability etc.).

Now, in 2019, enter in a young 22-year-old black QB by the name of Lamar Jackson! He's soft-spoken, young, fast, quick, strong, can throw, balling out, winning and oh yeah; he's doing it all while WEARING BRAIDS! That's the typical look of BLACK MEN and WOMEN that scares the hell out of racist white people! Word to all racists and bigots......GET OVER IT!

I always wondered whether Flacco and Matt Ryan can dunk a basketball

Agree with all of that, lol I never disputed that the views of black QBs is antiquated and straight up ignorant, I was just saying that a guy saying a black person has dark skin isn’t some deep rooted racial issue, just an ignorant person saying ignorant shit lol

I don't think the guys racist. Dumb comment, yes, but racist, no. He just happened to have a mic at a bad time. People can take a lot of what you say out of context. Side note, Lamar really isn't even that dark. Not the time or place, but things like that are blown up because we can't have a real discussion about race/racism.

I think that guy was just activated off the practice squad as well. That man was trying to feed his family. Same reaction as you all. I thought it was just a great play. The fact he got it away that cleanly, in the rain without it hitting the turf was crazy.

How are you going to take off the first part of the sentence and then take the rest out of context as if something outrageous was said when we can see the original post half a screen up and know what was said?

The surprising thing is that the comment by Tim Ryan sounded like one of those radio sports guys who never played sports. It's disappointing that it's an ex-NFL player. He should know better.

Lamar is successful at these because of his high-level ball handling skills. He has done it since college in bright red and white jerseys. He has been successful with it all year, regardless of his jersey color (his best performances so far were in white and purple jerseys) but beyond that, you don't need to look any further than some of the other QBs who were the best at it. Tom Brady, Aaron Rodger and Peyton Manning. Their play action fakes fooled defenses for years. Lamar simply adds the dimension of being able to tuck it and run.

Besides, you know that if there was any merit to it, Belichick would have already had black Patriots jerseys created and Brady would be wearing dark arm-sleeves and gloves.

I'm not going to raise it to the level of a racist comment, I think it was a stupid comment and a thought that was worded poorly.

Because it struck me as somewhat of an ironic comment given the topic of discussion.

Naw my brotha! Nothing ironic about my response whatsoever! :not me: It was well thought out prior to being posted so it wouldn't be taken out of context or perceived the wrong way. In context; I was giving historical clarity as to why statements like Tom Ryan's still exist in relation to a black athlete-a QB in particular. Unfortunately, the notion that a dual-threat, mobile, athletic black QB can't win the Super Bowl like the typical prototypical 6'6 stand in the pocket white QB can; is the remaining glass ceiling that a black man has to shatter in the NFL. And the threat of that happening clearly makes white racists nervous because of it threatening to destroy their erroneous racist and bigoted ideologies. And, that's a great thing!

And yes, it would be crazy for Lamar to win both the MVP and the SB MVP in the same season. Wow!

We need a white man to shatter the CB glass ceiling.

If only Andy Isabella played CB instead of wr... he’s the rare white guy who’s fast enough. Dammit.

The thing is Mili if you listen to Ryan’s actual comment it had zero to do with what you are saying. Just ask Richard Sherman. And I doubt this “glass ceiling” you speak of exists with most. I mean for all intent and purpose Russ Wilson won a SB, Pete Carroll just stole it from him. lol
