The Ugly, the Ugly, and the Awful: Week 3 Edition

Hey, I hear you, but watching Oakland against Washington and they look bad, too. I think the NFL is just really wildly unpredictable this year for the most part. Their OL is getting really abused by the Redskins tonight, and while I'm not really confident in us against them, their defense isn't that great but it is pretty good--don't get me wrong. Could easily go either way and it wouldn't surprise me.

And what did you see from the Jaguars in their last 2 games @Grim ? Pretty sure, it was things that made you "think" that the Ravens would beat them? And yet, the Jaguars "unexpectedly" showed up! Bortles, "unexpectedly" showed up...right? Of course they did! That's what other teams that "seem to be" beatable-do against the Ravens. They show up! While the Ravens...play down!

The Raiders will play like world beaters in Cali against the Ravens mark my words. And then, we'll be back in here saying the same old b.s. about this team because that is all they seem to be good for.....mediocrity and a redundancy for piss poor game play.

have to admit there is a sheer lack of star power on this team. Seems to be based on savy vets and ok solid prospects

Yes, but they didn't destroy the place they failed in. He didn't trust anyone or anything in the building. He made for an awful environment, it's not about his coaching.
So we're going to say the youngest HC a the time of his hire can't grow, mature, and learn?

I don't disagree the Raiders could win but that's why we watch football. If you feel like the Ravens are going to lose, why watch? Yeah, we looked horrible today--no sugar coating that one bit. Also, this is the only non-divisional game we've played so it's hard to say if this is the true Ravens or not. An opponent can be terrible but if they're in the same division we've seen them play a closer game a lot of times. That's why I am saying the Raiders game will be a better indicator of this team. I'm not Nostradamus here so I won't bother saying we'll lose to the Raiders but it's certainly a possibility.

I never said blown up nor despite the word being bandied about, rebuild. Cleaning house is not the same thing as either of those things to me. Cleaning house is more like doing what we did in 2012 on a larger scale, mostly involving position coaches, coordinators and perhaps picking up a player or two if available and then needing to make room. I wouldn't think a HC would be a target in a cleaning house situation either, unless someone higher up felt he was the heart of the problem.
Cleaning house in most cases refers to firing all the coaches and in many cases the GMs. Maybe not to you, but that is what happens most of the time.

I'm sure the Steelers felt like they could beat the Bears. Any given Sunday.

If you want to put the Ravens at an immediate disadvantage, win the coin toss and defer.

So, the only reason to watch the Ravens play is if I feel that they will win? C'mon now @Grim. SMH! :D

I watch football period...because I love the sport! And, while the Ravens are my favorite team, that doesn't mean that I can't call it as I see it! Whether that be a win or a loss for them against the Raiders. But, they got to get past the Steelers first though right? I'm not Nostradamus either and nor am I a weather person but based upon the "signs" they can predict the weather for a day or even a week. Totally based upon what they are seeing.

In this case, my predictions are always based upon what the Ravens show me on the field. It's based solely upon what they actually do, don't do or can't do in their games and how consistently they do, don't do or can't do it from opponent to opponent. IMO, the Ravens don't seem to play well out West as of late. So, I chalk this game up as a loss. Do I want the Ravens to win? OF COURSE-EVERY GAME! But, that is not their reality and nor is it mine.

Oh stop being an ass. There isn't anyone making that claim. Not sure what part of today you did not find a complete failure. No other team that anyone considers "good" has a total meltdown on every side of the ball like we did today. It isn't the loss. I kind of expected us to lose. First trip abroad for a game, I thought they waited too long to leave, we always have that game where we play down to the other team. But this? This showed us how much the off season did nothing for us. We are still that team that seems to play our division tight and can't even look like an NFL team against other teams.
The bolded part is arguably debatable. I still recall the time when we went to Houston with a winning record and were outright obliterated by 30 to the tune of 13-43. We allowed a safety and threw an early pick-six to Jonathan Joseph, giving up 29 straight points before half-time. We score twice in garbage time. Defensively, we amassed no turnovers, allowed nearly 200 yards on the ground. That game sticks in my memory because we won the SuperBowl that year. The Broncos allowed 29 straight to Kansas City in 2015, with Peyton Manning going 5/20 and 4 INTs. Brock Osweiler managed to salvage the day with two scores in the last 5 minutes. They came away with the chip at the end of the season. And that's just looking back the last half-decade. I'm sure that there are more examples if we consider playoff teams as well, i.e. the 10-6 Dolphins last year whom we gave the business to last season. That's not at all to say that we're destined to either win the SuperBowl or earn a playoff berth, not by any means. And this game could very well an indication of things to come to a degree, or a turning point for the worst. I just don't subscribe to the notion that good teams are impervious to having awful games. That's not a statement that holds up from a historical standpoint.

I don't know anymore. After watching Oakland, Green Bay, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, and New England today, I have to say I think the age of easily predicting games is shaky this year. This year has been one of the wildest years I've ever seen in football with predictions. It's so hard to predict who will win lately. I never expected the Raiders to be in this situation tonight against Washington of all teams, and I also didn't expect the Texans to nearly beat the Patriots.

New England and Green Bay nearly lost today, nobody expected the Bears to beat PIT, and can anyone say they thought Oakland would/will lose to the Washington Redskins? Like, wow. I'm ready to throw my hands up with predictions lol. Teams have bad games and it's hard to predict what will happen. Good teams can lose and it's clear it's hard to say this is an indicator of the future or not yet. There's too much football left and not enough played. One thing is absolutely certain--we need to get better on offense and the defense needs to clean itself up.

It definitely came across in my pickem league this week. Awful, straight up awful.
