2020 Edge Draft Thread

Save for Chase Young, I can already say Yetur Gross-Matos will be EDGE1 for me. Above Epenesa and Chaisson.

(Also fun fact: "Gross Matos" almost translates as "Big Tools" in french, which is quite fitting)

I get why Epenesa is a polarizing prospect, his strengthes and weaknesses are apparent. It just comes down to "does it translate?" and for me I'm leaning towards a no. I used to not care about the "tweener" thing but I must say it's been rough for most of them, Solomon Thomas being a famous one. Going back to AJ, I just struggle to find how he's going to win against proper NFL Olinemen. Players that are not going to leave their chests open and that will be superior athletes compared to him. For such a restricted athlete I envisionned him to have much cleaner technique which I definitely don't see. You mix a slow body with all those wasted movements and boy, it's tough for me.

well this is sending me back to the khalid kareem tape had him as a 3rd rounder but worth taking another look... especially as he was one of the first few guys i watched

Id absolutely positively jump in the third round. will likely need to.

Im starting to sell myself big time on Marlon Davidson. seems like a two in one ravens type player. Cannot be moved...is violent and disruptive. Plays all up and down the line

would be a jihad ward type positional flexibility guy who would move further inside the more likely it is you have a passing down but could definitely be out on the edge on early downs for the run while still being a pass rush threat

he was one of the guys who helped solidify how i thought about him at the senior bowl - he's bulked up to 303 lbs (was at 297 lbs at the senior bowl) so clearly he thinks he's a DL in the NFL rather than a traditional edge - he's currently 27th on my board

Marlon Davidson looks like a really versatile DL, like he might be the most athletic lightweight NT ever, or he could be a super stout yet explosive 3tech, or he could be a true 2 gapping 5tech, or an edge setter.

honestly he might not have the highest ceiling(but it could also he super high, hard to say because we have no real interior film), but he for damn sure will have a heavy snap count in this league

He’s going to be a starter somewhere for a long time - the only question is to what level - but his floor is pretty high and fairly safe

im not as high on chase young as the rest of the world is. I mean dont get me wrong, he'll be an all pro n all but i don't see him as this once in a generation talent.

i 100% agree - he's definitely one of the top 2 players in the draft with burrow and i have derrick brown a bit behind on grade but close enough

but compared to some of the other edge rushers in previous drafts he's not all that - like he's not nick bosa as a prospect or myles garrett who was the definition of an athletic freak

he's going to be a dominant player but he's not an all-world prospect/generational prospect - doesnt mean he's not a great prospect just means he's not a once in a generation special kind of talent

by definition those guys dont come around often (looking at you quenton nelson)

Alex highsmith has simply not been talked about enough... that dude could be REALLY good, get everson griffen vibes from him, just big, long, strong, freakishly explosive, extremely powerful and just plays with a lot of momentum and quick feet and closing speed. Real flashy prospect. I wouldn’t be surprised if he goes in the second round

I looked him up two days ago, and while the Griffen comps are wild I do agree that he has Round 2 upside. I didn't see his Combine but if Oshane Ximenes had Round 1 talk at any point last season then Highsmith definitely is Round 2 worthy, he's a very similar player but with much better strength than Ximenes, which was my number one concern last year.

Man, I just started watching Curtis Weaver. What a colossal disappointment. Ive only watched the Washington Bowl game but I can't take another performance like that.

Keep in mind he played hurt to finish the season. Ankle sprain iirc.
