I get dizzy when I read stuff like this. 18 billion km. And that's just to get out of Sun's reach/influence.
It’s the 2nd furthest an artifical object has got from earth and it only just got outside the heliosphere - in almost 50 years - it’s still 300 years away from the Oort Cloud which is still part of the solar system and probably won’t get out the other side of the Oort Cloud for 30000 years
I love this stuff. Insane. 41 years it’s been out there...after the mission was only supposed to last a few years...

What a coincidence that the cameras had to be turned off.....

Just think how crap the technology on the voyager is - and yet it’s still sending light speed messages with data back to Earth...

Imagine all the high quality data we’ll get back from new horizon when it starts getting further and further away from the sun

It’s cool that the guys in charge of the voyagers still have the ability to control them too - and can basically increase their working lifespan by selecting which instruments to turn off

Hope you lot are staying safe during this coronavirus outbreak. Please do take it seriously if you're not already; exponential growth, by its nature, will devlop very rapidly, and I see that the cases in the USA are well ahead of where other countries were when they put measures in place (plus testing has been sparse, by my understanding). The virus also spreads for a long time before symptoms become apparent, so the recorded situation today very much lags the true infection rate. You can track all the statistics here: https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/

Wash your hands and avoid groups.
