That is now 4 openings at General Manager for next season.

Update: Shad Khan informed HC Doug Marrone of Caldwell's firing but ensured him he and the coaching staff are safe through the 2020 season. I guess Khan sees what Raheem is doing in Atlanta and doesn't want to lose out on Justin Fields incase the interim HC would win enough games.

Must be nice to see your team win even when your QB throws for less than 100 yards and 2 INTs. Also, I want to say that Lamar played better against these Pats in shitty weather conditions and with worse weapons than Kyler. Just saying...

Will be a great offseason for college coaches or good assistants making a jump to a HC. Lot of open jobs.

Falcons, Texans, Lions already open.
Jets, Broncos, Bears, Jags fully expected to part with their guys.

Also think Chargers, Eagles, Cowboys and maybe even Vikings could be in play for new coaches.

I'll guess you'll have at least 9 openings, which is upwards of 30% of the league.

Wink was in the mix last year so I expect him to be considered again.

Fangio would be an ideal replacement for Wink.

i mean maybe - tbh I'd rather we just kept up recruiting in-house on the defence - probably Chris Hewitt or maybe Mike Macdonald

tbh idk that Wink gets a job - I think he'd certainly deserve one but I'm not sure he'd get one
I agree. I'd be quite surprised actually to see Wink or Roman get a HC gig this year. I think they'll get interviews, but I don't view either as high-demand individuals.

I think Wink's case gets hurt a lot by a guy like Bowles or Fangio. There's some really good DC's in this league, and Wink is one of them, but being a HC is a whole different animal in my opinion, and a lot of these DC's-turned-HC's have failed in spectacular fashion in recent years.

Plus I think there's an obvious shift towards more of the younger, "guru" offensive play caller types, especially with teams with young or soon to be have young QBs.

If Wink did get a HC gig, I think it would need to be in a place with a very strong OC already in place that he could keep, and I don't see many, if any places, that would qualify.

LA Chargers may be the only spot I could see it.

Idk re Bowles. He did a lot better than Gase and is arguably a top3 DC.
McDermott, Flores and Vrabel are recent examples who are doing great/ better than expected. BB is the best HC and he's not an former OC.
Jeremiah posted this: top 3 qualities a HC must possess: Leader, Teacher, Authentic.
Whether your background is OC, DC or STC is irrelevant.

tbf Wink apparently told the Giants he'd tap Joe Brady as his OC if they brought him in as HC - so he clearly understands the need for something exciting and modern at the OC position - i dont think that OC would have to be in place yet but Wink would have to know that the one he wanted was available and wanted to work with him

1. "Better than Gase" is the lowest possible bar. Like Matt Patricia is pretty much better than Gase, and he was a colossal failure.
Bowles is the perfect example of what I'm talking about. I don't think he'll ever be a successful HC in this league. I think he can lead good defenses no matter where he goes. That's his calling. I think Wink is in the same boat. Wink checks every box for me of the "guy behind the guy".
2. I'm not suggesting you can only win with offensive-minded coaches. I'm saying most teams want those kinds of coaches now, especially with a franchise QB, because quite frankly, its really not that hard to find quality defensive coaches in this league. There's like 4-5 guys in this league that are actually really good at offensive play calling. I think there's at least 15-20 pretty good defensive coaches and coordinators in this league.

Like if I'm given the choice between taking Kyle Shanahan as my OC or Wink as my DC, and I can only pick one, 32 of 32 NFL teams are taking Shanahan. It's not even a thought in anyone's mind.

Right, but you basically have to have that arranged prior to hiring him is the point. Like I don't see a team hiring Wink and being like "cool, go find an OC". They'll want to know that ahead of time.

After yesterday's debacle of a game-losing play-call, Gregg Williams is out as DC in NY.

Damn.... Adam Gase has outlasted one of his own Coordinators lol. On a serious note, that should be Gregg Williams' last NFL job ever. How he still got coaching jobs after Bounty Gate is beyond me.

I mean... in fairness, Bountygate was a crock of shit. He and the Saints were mostly just scapegoats for things that have occurred every year for the last several decades. Its just the PR nightmare of that happening during concussion lawsuits means the NFL had to come down "harshly" on something that 20 years ago would have been considered a part of everyday life.

I think he's generally a decent coach. His defenses have historically fared pretty well wherever he has gone. I think sometimes his aggressiveness, sometimes in the same vein as Rex Ryan, becomes a detriment, because he fails to realize or acknowledge that he doesn't have the talent to do the things he wants to do.
