that's your opinion and you are entitled to it.Eh I’d have to disagree man. He led that team in Receptions and Touchdowns. I would agree that Claypool and Johnson are the future though

Please enlighten me on how he’d produce in this offense if he barely did in the Chiefs offense
because he's only the 3rd or 4th option on the chiefs...
and yes he had a bit of a down year in 2020 but in 2019 he put up nearly 700 yds as the 3rd/4th receiver and then went off in the playoffs that year for 288 yds in 3 games and was a key reason the chiefs ended up winning the superbowl...
he showed up in the playoffs the year before too - 176 yds in 2 games
in fact in both 2018 and 2019 he was the leading receiver for the chiefs in the playoffs both years...
if we have superbowl aspirations why would we not want a guy who has a knack for going off in big games
idk about that - think you're under-selling watkins - he's a high-level WR3 with the potential to take games over - and most importantly he can function well as an outside receiver as a true "x" receiver - beats press and wins vs man coverage
he's not going to draw a ton of extra attention and he gets maligned because he hasn't turned into the superstar that his draft stock suggested he would be - but he's a perfectly good WR and would be a great addition if we did bring him in
Hollywood - Watkins - Duvernay looks a lot better than Hollywood - Duvernay - Boykin
if you bring in watkins and manage to draft a rookie then suddenly this WR corps has some energy to it
obviously the lack of availability is frustrating but there's a reason he's hitting the market
you have to look closer than catches and touchdowns. Wes Welker had the most catches for the Patriots for multiple seasons, he wasn't their best receiver. He had 92 catches last year. That is about as close to number 1 option as any player is going to get in todays NFL.
Still he was 2nd in targets and third in yards. But even so he got more opportunities than if he was option 3 at the Chiefs or Ravens.
Yes Watkins is an upgrade but I’d love to see us draft quality youth and give them a legitimate shot. It’s quite frustrating when we draft WRs but lack the ability to get them involved in the offense. Duve deserves a shot and there’s just so much quality at the position in the draft.

Sammy Watkins is interesting and his best year receiving yards wise was actually when Greg Roman was his offensive coordinator. Injuries and for other reasons seem to hamper his ability to reach such a level of play since then but he's still 27 years old so there may still be some untapped abiility left in him. I wouldn't be mad at all if The Ravens signed him and he shown in 2019 during The Chiefs playoff and super bowl run that he can be counted on to step up in big games.
He isn't a guy you signed and expect to count on through because of his health but he is quite familar with The Ravens passing game specialist Keith Williams. Maybe Williams can help Watkins reach new heights but again you don't sign him him expecting him to reliable options especially health wise. I honestly like Ty Hilton or Josh Reynolds more but Watkins isn't a scrub.
i think josh reynolds might be a product of sean mcvay's system - and i imagine that's why teams are hesitant about throwing money at him
it's sounded like Ty's heading back to indy for a while now
and it's a good point about his familiarity with keith williams too
For one it’s not a foregone conclusion that he plays 4 games, that’s a big reach, two he would come in and be our WR2 from day one and there wouldn’t be much question, and three, where do you wanna spend it? On another position where it’s the same exact situation and you’re trying to find a bargain on an over the hill veteran? That's not really the point lol.... bring in another guy who does just slightly better in 4 games what our guys already do... when that money could be used elsewhere. Real smart.
This isn’t developmental time, this is win now, we have a 2 year window now, maybe 3, Duvernay isn’t someone we should have blind faith in, I liked duvernay but I also thought third round was rich for him because he came into the nfl with NO route running prowess and frankly I’m not sure he will ever have it because he’s stiff hipped and stiff ankled and basically he NEEDS to be schemed open, like he’s still very developmental and that’s not a basket I’m putting all my eggs in with a 2 year windowI’d rather let Watkins sign else where. Draft a couple guys high and throw them in the fire. Douv is a must start so we know what we’ve got in him, if we sign Watkins it’s just taking snaps away

Because he would never be covered by more than one defender, and that one defender would be shitting bricks with his eyes on the qb as do all defenders we face. Please enlighten me on how he’d produce in this offense if he barely did in the Chiefs offense
Bingo.because he's only the 3rd or 4th option on the chiefs...

duvernay was so raw coming out - he's athletic but could not run routes at all coming out of college
we need our WRs to be able to beat man coverage so that we can take advantage of the attention the running game gets
i like proche but the coaches clearly don't trust him yet
and watkins isn't a progress stopper by any means - we literally have nobody right now who's earned a starting spot other than hollywood... with the way WRs rotate there's literally no issue getting guys involved if their play is demanding they get snaps
at the moment, it's harsh but as an organisation we cannot expect duvernay, proche or boykin to get better - we can hope that they do but we have to plan for them not to... if one or more of them step up then great but if not we're left completely devoid of weapons - so adding watkins would be a great start to building a better WR corps
adding watkins and then drafting a guy in the first 3 rounds would be even better...
You don’t think Watkins moves the needle much because he’s not some spectacular kind of player, but he is a MASSIVE upgrade over Boykin and that just isn’t up for debate lol, so while he may not move the needle, he’s gonna move the offense forwardI think your spot on with the two year window. I just don’t think Watkins moves the needle much or adds significant value. I’m just frustrated with our inability to develop WRs. Especially after watching a guy like Claypool go for 900 yards and 9 touchdowns as a rookie.

I'd be good with Marshall, Jr also.^ This. The only alternative is trading for someone. I think people forget we have WR room with no one in it. Didn't want Watkins at that start. Desperately want him now because we first of all need bodies, and secondly, instantly becomes the second best option. As you said if you can grab a Bateman then maybe he's 3rd which is right where you want him
Because he would never be covered by more than one defender, and that one defender would be shitting bricks with his eyes on the qb as do all defenders we face.
say what you want about Reid and the chiefs offense but you will not find a team In the league that will provide a WR with more space to run through simply because no team in the nfl forces such a loaded box.
Bingo.
Seth Roberts, think about it, we actually missed him big time in 2020, if you told me last offseason we could replace Seth roberts with Sammy Watkins I’d pound the table for them to make it happen.
