2 million and change in cap space probably not getting Gilmore signed lol

Nope. Was more or less thinking about what type of contract restructures would be required to get it done, but we've already done several, so I'm not even sure mathematically it would work.

Of course we don't know what Gilmore's price tag will be, either.

True. But if you bring in Gilmore, which I obviously wouldn't be opposed to, you basically push Marlon down to the slot again and send Young, who I think has improved the last couple weeks, to the bench or into sub packages.

PUSH MARLO TO THE SAFETY POSITION

/S

I think this is a case where it's the wrong position to be throwing the last few precious pennies at. Unless he wants to take a cheap one year deal to rehab at our facility then go win a ring of course.

No way would I consider that at this point.

I was joking. I do see Tavon improving and becoming the player he showed he could be before all those injuries. I like what I see from Averett as well. Peters feels more like a luxury IF this is the way those 2 are going to keep playing.

You’d be dumb not to at least check in on Gilmore. Very unlikely to happen but a call will be made at the very least.

So how do we fix this Oline going forward? All things considered , and with the exception of Week 1, they’ve held up fairly well. Just feels like a house of cards ready to collapse at any moment though.

I’m concerned we’re going to throw money at Lamar but not be able to protect him in the future. Is it a lock that we likely reach next draft to fill the need?

[emoji23]. I know all your Gilmore talk is just a smoke screen for your desire to sign and start Jaylon Smith

I mean I look at it this way...
Stanley is locked in for several years. Re-signing Bozeman, to me, becomes a high priority. You'll have Zeitler for at least one more year, maybe two, and I think he'll be fine for the duration of that.
Between Phillips (when healthy), Powers and Cleveland, you've got guys who can compete for LG. I suppose we could "upgrade" there, but it's pretty low in the pecking order of priorities I would have for the offseason.
That basically leaves RT. You've got JuWuan James for dirt cheap next year, which if he can recover from his injury, was an above average RT when healthy.

For me, the Oline is a "need" in the context of depth and/or a starting RT. That's it. I think we need Tackles. I think we have enough depth on the interior, we just need to solidify the Tackle position a bit more.
It's been a short period of time so far, but Mekari at least looks serviceable there, so that's good news for next year.
The Ravens coaching staff will tell you this 1000%... part of the way the OLine gets better is to have them all play together for an extended period of time. It's not about just replacing like 2-3 starters every year.

You give me a 2022 Oline of Stanley/any of the three LG's/Bozeman/Zeitler/James or high draft pick, and I'd feel very comfortable with it. I think we'll have depth on the interior, and I think Mekari wouldn't fall on his face if he had to play snaps.

Maybe this opinion changes as the year goes on, but for now, this is what I see.

How much do we think Bozeman will cost to re-sign?

He's been so consistent at both positions that I wouldn't mind a bit of a longer contract (4/5 yrs) and/or more guaranteed money if it brings the cost down.

that's been EDC's MO so far through his young career

there's gonna be a few Cs up for new deals this offseason including Ryan Jensen, Matt Paradis, Ethan Pocic, Justin Britt, Ben Jones

not all of those will command big deals but Jensen certainly will which probably helps with Bozeman as long as we get him done fairly early

i think he's been trash in coverage for at least a year now
he has an 82 grade in coverage and it is one of the best in the league. He is awful in run defense, but he hasn't had a missed tackle all yr and for what it's worth, he's apparently great at finishing tackles.

vs. Queen who has had 9 missed tackles in 4 games. Yes, I know it's a small sample size, but last year he had 22 missed tackles all yr long. He's on pace to break records.

Not sure we could even create the cap space to bring him in at this point.

agreed - but he would be the kind of player that i'd be willing to find a way to get him here - stylistically he's perfect for this defence and we've taken a hit at corner with MP done for the year

yes it means marlon plays more slot but the difference this year is that averett can also flex into the slot - we just get to use guys to create desirable matchups rather than religiously sticking to the slot vs outside designations

yeah idk what PFF's watching - he's allowed like 9/10 receptions for 100ish yards - he's a liability in coverage at the moment and all this tells me is that PFF still hasn't sorted out how to grade guys in zone coverages...
