The Lamar, The Defense and The Comeback

Oh sorry I was confusing. It's the above reasoning and I was also just simultaneously saying we can't afford to not have depth ready just in general with even more guys going down (Cleveland).

oh i see - yeah id been debating that earlier this week

in my head i get wanting to preserve his health just in case but then i think about not wanting to make decisions like that out of fear of what might happen - if they think he makes the team better by being in there at LG (and it's possible they might not but with the way they've been rotating powers and cleveland without either of them really winning that job outright it seems unlikely) then i think he has to be in there

its the opportunity cost of making one position worse to make the backup at another position less worse...

Also lol at ESPN commentators having a hard on for criticising lamar's passing completely unnecessarily

it's like they couldnt get over the 1 misread and then miss on 2 consecutive plays to hollywood - they kept talking about how he'd missed a few throws and made a few misreads and were still talking that way when lamar was like 26/30 or something like that lol

i remember literally going to the box score to double check i wasnt going crazy because i couldnt remember him missing - and then they were talking about his inaccuracy and then he missed a pass and finally they acknowledge that he'd just hit 12 straight completions or something lol

utterly ridiculous
I didn't hear what they said (like why lol, I saw the game too), but it seems like they're making it seem like he completed 58 or 59% of his passes or some shit.

lamar's been on fire in the 4th quarter/OT this season - only the fumble against the raiders holding him down

The offensive line sold that game. Set him up for failure even though he struggled in the 2nd half.

oh for sure it was very much a joint effort and it's hard not to give up strip sacks when you're facing 20+ pressures in 1 game from both sides of the line

I hear you and this is totally sound, saliently logic. I just have to say though, it's Andre Fucking Smith. He could legitimately get Lamar killed. And to me that's far worse than an improvement in LG play. That's how bad he is

i get it and i would completely understand keeping tyre back for that reason

and i also wonder if they just leave things as they are while things are going smoothly and the OL's been building chemistry anyway

but the ravens and harbs have always believed in next man up and i cant see them holding tyre back out of fear if they think he makes the team better

My quick takeaways:
1. Run game just doesn't appear like it's going to get going this year. Combination of injuries and defensive changes by our opponents are likely going to make that difficult. Maybe if defenses start defending Lamar as a passer better, it'll open up, but the lack of a running game is a long-term concern for me.
2. Very little positive to say about the defense. Can call out a few individual players who I thought played well and made some key plays (Oweh, Young(before the penalty), Clark), but there's too much to hate here.
The tackling is pathetic, and at least last night, we looked old and slow. Looked like we were multiple steps behind on every play, and when we made contact with a ball carrier, they seemingly shredded first impact at will all game long.
That's a toughness, technique, and effort flaw. That's not a "too many injuries" issue, or a schematic issue, or a coverage issue. That's basic defense 101. I know they put the pads on this past week during practice. Whatever they need to do to shore up the tackling, it needs to be done quicker.

We can all marvel in the comeback and it was great. Completely unsustainable, and everybody knows it. You're dead money in the playoffs, or maybe even in tough division games or against better competition, if you're waiting til late 3rd quarter to find the endzone, and you're definitely dead money if you allow chunk play after chunk play after chunk play on defense all game long.

It's a win, so that's great. Some of the issues I saw last night I only saw last night. Others, like the lack of a running game and the inability to tackle, are now trends, not aberrations.

Short week, extremely tough opponent. Get it cleaned up.

The inside linebacker play is not sustainable if we want to advance far in the playoffs . I’m just shocked at how bad the play there has been . Teams are going to attack there all day long .
