The Ty Huntley, The Big Plays and The Andy Dalton

After seeing the Bears though, I think if they had started Dalton over Fields after Dalton got healthy they might be in the thick of the playoff hunt. It is a shame for them that they went the other way.

i mean also worth pointing out that he was fighting to be the 6th/7th corner on this team behind humphrey, peters, averett, young, jimmy...

he's 2 weeks removed from coming back from injury after playing well in his debut in week 1
All of that maybe true but westry is still not a good cb

I think it’s a toss up. Andy is definitely better at dissecting the defense but I don’t think he moves the needle any more than fields can as far as total wins. Hopefully Fields is learning from all this. The Bears fans have suffered enough with poor QB play

i think partly too that the guys we have on the backend just arent that good blitzing - chuck's a decent blitzer but elliott and tavon young are great blitzers but with no corners we werent blitzing tavon much and without elliott we dont have a good blitzer there at safety

it's not just about the scheme - i think we no longer have the personnel to be successful consistently with those blitzes - if you're gonna run them then you have to get home quickly and make sure the free man makes it - we're not doing that right now

also worth pointing out that houston, oweh and bowser are all consistently winning in 4 man rush scenarios - it makes sense to play to that strength when the initial strength of this defence (the coverage) has been decimated
This goes hand in hand with my point though, if we don’t have the personnel to execute winks typical scheme then why is he not adjusting? Especially when it’s been proven that just letting our 4 man rush, rush, and letting our back seven cover, has worked this season…

I’m pumped for Huntley. Seeing him all smiles after the game was awesome. Feels great knowing all is not lost when Lamar can’t go. Can’t recall ever feeling that way during the Flacco era

Ugly win but a win is still a win. Not too much to write home about today. Still need the defense to limit the big play but at least this one was just a poor play over a miscommunication. Offense didn't do much but a new (and significantly worse) QB so can't expect too much. These are the types of games you still love to see us win though. When everything is against you, you still find a way to pull it out. Kinda been the mantra all year. Not sure how far we can realistically go but as long as we keep on winning and closing out these tight ones, we have a chance.

im with you mostly - but my guess is that they still trust the process and the analytics given that they support the existing philosophy
i get that they like the analytics and it works well, but there are times where you just have to understand that the other team has seen what youre throwing at them for 55 minutes of the game and they might now be setting you up, ready to kill you when you send the same shit.

if we had our starting secondary, sure, but man we cant be trusting some of these guys to hold up on an island in these money downs, if we leave chris westry on an island on 4th an 11 at that particular point in the game, wink has to know that they are absolutely zeroing in on him and theyre going for a killshot.

i get it for sure - think they could be more situational with it - i dont actually though have an issue with that call in that spot

if stephens times his rush properly then the receiver doesnt have time to run a double-move
if westry's catch technique is better then he gets hands on the receiver at the stem and disrupts the route timing or is at least in position to hold and interfere if the ball does come out

1 of those 2 things happens and we're not having this discussion
