Lamar Jackson

but that's almost the point isnt it - michael vick is not a massively superstar accomplished player - he played 13 seasons and made 4 pro bowls and won a comeback player of the year award

and yet he's remembered as this magnetic talent with a legacy that belies his accomplishments - everyone knows who michael vick is... probably more people than who know who phillip rivers is for example
Maybe not. Phillip Rivers has lots of children and his children have friends and so on and so on.

I don't know about that. I've heard Bill Belichick has nightmares about Ed Reed and Peyton Manning also.
Belichick and Brady both had nightmares about Ed Reed. There was a clip of them watching tape on Ed and shaking their heads saying they had never seen instincts like what he had at Safety. It also showed a clip of Belichick going up to Ed telling him he was the best Safety he's ever seen.

Ray and Ed’s impacts are already forgotten outside of Baltimore

Their busts sitting in Canton say other wise

Okay. You can continue being deliberately obtuse lol, but Lamar already is approaching a lebron-like presence, he has a reputation outside of the average nfl watcher that ray and Ed never had.

“LeBron”… yuck…… I’d much rather have the Kobe/MJ influence of Ray and Ed myself

Can we replace LeBron with Curry?

I just hate LeBron and I’m a Lakers fan. How about Luka?

Luka is perfectly better. Young, vastly talented and has a ton of potential in getting titles… plus hated the former beloved coach….

Fine, Kobe

sure. Any athlete that is a worldwide superstar outside of the confines of their own league.
Damn dude, maybe we just get him fitted for the yellow jacket now. I’ve heard they are already working on his bust. J/k man, he’s special and I love to watch him play. I’m just in the camp that says let’s see how his career unfolds before we crown him as greatest ever.

I think a lot of folks are missing Joey and rossi’s point lol. Lamar has the popularity of a LeBron/generational type of talent. They’re not saying Lamar’s on LeBron’s level in terms of success. One day, though…

Yeah I get that and I don’t disagree, He is a special talent. He’s already won an MVP. I just think it’s a bit too early to make those kinds of comparisons. At the end of the day he will be judged by his accomplishments.

That’s true! Very good point

Not crowning him the greatest ever, it’s his magnetic aura, people want to watch him, people who aren’t even nfl fans want to watch him, much more than they want to watch just about any other player, he’s must see tv, people weren’t tuning in to see ray Lewis or Ed Reed the way they do Lamar, period. His appeal goes beyond his accomplishments on the field.

I get it. I guess for me I just don’t put as much weight into style and popularity as I do results. Hopefully I’ll feel the same way you do in a few more years.

Maybe. I mean LeBron has like what, 4 titles and numerous MVPs?

I also think you’re grossly overrating how well the guy is doing now that it’s 2021…. People began unfollowing him in 2020, more so after “poopgate” (hey, just using megastar terminology), and especially so after 2021 struggles.

Mahomes is Curry. Both lightskin fellas that were created from a laboratory (allegedly the same one) from a foreign planet tasked to perform unworldly shit in their respective leagues. As a Blazers fan, Lamar kinda has the same parallels as Lillard.
